I have nowhere near enough patience for this game myself, but still love watching you play it, Wolfpack! (Especially 21:19 - 23:15. Had me on the edge of my seat!)
If that convoy that O-19 encountered landed on Singapore, that is quite the troop reinforcement. The leading ship of that enemy group was Akitsu Maru which, if modeled like real life, should carry north of 2,500 troops.
I landed into the exact same situation in Singapore during my own playthrough, i just loaded everybody back onto the ships and bombarded the ports for a few weeks whilst also ferrying more troops to palembang, tried again and almost walked into town.
Okay, you currently have about 1:3 in force strength in Singapore. According to the formula (I have a nice spreadsheet that calculates the force and projects all the resulting combat day by day), the IJA has between 3500 and 17500 troops in Singapore, depending on its supply conditions. If you're willing to bombard further and get it down to a level 3 airfield, you'd cut the IJA force strength by 18%, nearly doubling your chances of victory at this point. (sadly you'd still lose without additional reinforcements)
Today, for me at least, has been a Wolfpack day. I've rewatched 13 episodes of the Russian Cold Waters campaign from two years ago and now the latest War on the Sea. It's been a pleasurable experience. The thing that stood out for me with Cold Waters is how varied play styles can be. When Wolfpack stopped playing Cold Waters I found the.Magztv channel for a weekly dose of sub fun. It's almost like two different games. All great fun either way.
Retaking Singapore...gutsy move with a lot of ships out of theater! But a good plan executed now is better than a perfect plan executed later. Keeps the IJN on its toes!
Be careful of inbound supply convoys. I heavily damaged one on its way to Singapore and they kept going. My progress bar on the ground was about half red, half blue. After that it dropped to almost all red and I had to pull my troops oit because they were getting slaughtered.
Yet another episode of the A.I. being some of the worst I've ever seen. That air attack at the beginning of the episode should've sunk 2+ if done correctly
I feel like the repair parties take way too long to take out fires, controlling flooding is understandable for how long that takes. If it was a magazine explosion it would also be understandable.
I'm not sure which I like more, the gameplay, the commentary, or just the moral thought that ABDACOM could have been this effective... the only thing that scares me is how you choose to keep running your ships with such damage 😱
Why don't you form up all of the same airplanes into one formation before attacking? It makes it a lot easier to manage along with more safety in numbers for a massed attack. The first thing I do in any engagement is group up all of my planes by putting them in the same formation at half speed so they can all catch up to each other, with the lead plane in a circular holding pattern somewhere a safe distance away. After they've all grouped up, you can then split off flights of 3-4 planes into their own formation for individual attacks. If you do this on pause then all of your planes start their own attacks from the same distance away, too. Makes sense to do this for fighters too - if you put them in line abreast formation and then put them facing a target, they'll all be pretty much the same distance away from a target when they start their attack. Also - for your bombers - the box formation I think works the best because the planes stack in a tighter formation at slightly different altitudes.
13:08 Ok, now can anybody tell me what this light aircraft carrier is? It seems to be a merchant conversion but I can't find any Japanese carrier that looked like this one.
It is the Akitsu Maru. Technically it isn't a carrier since it is not the Navy's, but the Army's. It is part of a program to make amphibious landing ships that the Army stepped its toes in when constructing the Shinshu Maru in the mid 1930s. Akitsu Maru's landing deck (it doesnt have an elevator) would, in theory, operate autogyros equipped with depth charges for self defense. Its main purpose was to carry massive amounts of troops, then stern doors would open up and landing craft would exit from there to invade a beachhead. She was never utilized for this role as, by the time she was ready for service, Japan was already being pushed back. Akitsu Maru would end up being sunk in November of 1944 by a submarine with the loss of 2,500 lives. If this game models Akitsu Maru as real life, then this ship will be a major headache for Wolfpack for the sheer amount of troops it can pull at once.
@@sse_weston4138 @sse_weston4138 Thanks for this detailed reply! Such a ship could prove quite problematic if used to reinforce Singapore, hopefully O 19 will soon receive new orders: "Sink the Akitsu Maru!"

Something weird happened when you're unloading cargo on the second night (timestamp 19:00 on). At 04:16 (video 19:50), when TF Jupiter leaves, Singapore has 3063 Troops and 3355 Supply. But at 04:34 (timestamp 20:00), after TF 16 unloads, Singapore only has 2570 Troops. Was there a Banzai charge we missed? (You also have like 2 minutes of dead time at the end of the video.)
Worse for Emerald, that torp was coming in off her port stern quarter, and her 'skipper' turned to port to avoid it. A starboard turn would've caused the torp to run down the port side. Of course, another ship would've had to deal with the same torp later however.

@@sse_weston4138 At this point in question. One sub has effectively scuppered the carrier fleet carrier - or flagship - critical damage and flooding will mean that it's likely to be scuttled. Wolfpack will realise that he needs another two or three subs. O-19 has reduced the carrier force make up by 60% but there's still two Auxiliary Carriers with Zeroes, Kate Torpedo Bombers and Val Dive Bombers. Unless able to re-engage with O-19 to deal with those - more submarines is a 'must!' and a most urgent one, at that. Two T Class RN Subs could help him out. And these are needed.
@@sse_weston4138 I don't agree - O-19 has scuppered the biggest carrier which carry the most aircraft. But there's still a sizeable chunk of carrier aircraft that can still be flown off by the two smaller carriers. He really needs to get submarine reinforcement out to O-19. Two T Class RN Subs with eight torpedoes forward and two astern. Are required. I'm seeing it from the operational requirements. It is essential.
@@stephenfarthing3819 I didn't say O-19 hasn't done good, she's done excellent. He said at the beginning of this campaign that he wouldn't use many submarines if at all, because they would sink so many ships that it would lead to less chances for surface engagements, something he said he likes a lot. Plus, from his point of view, surface engagements are more entertaining from the viewer perspective.
I'm not saying four US or Two more Dutch Submarine. Two T Class RN Subs. With a torpedo array that CAN scupper this carrier force. And help O-19 to finish the job. You have to understand that I have observed two others who did the ABDACOM scenario and perceive alternative options. The two best submarines for the job remains the T Class RN Subs. There's still plenty of scope for surface operations. I just say don't go overboard with use of subs -J76ny is using 5 subs at present. Darthvegan went more overboard with upward of that number. But he achieved that objective and got Singapore back.. I'm saying that with a modest use of subs you can achieve more! I'm not saying an overuse of submarines. Just sufficient to do the job.
