- Well, mom had a second date with her dream man, but I wonder if things are moving too fast. Maybe not for her and her guy, but I think Mom seeing other people uncomfortable is making her question herself. Tell me what you guys think, as always, sending you love and light.

The daughter's snarky gold-digger accusation threw a bucket of cold reality on this budding romance.
She’s clearly afraid of her inheritance. I have seen that in my cousins future mother-in-law. The grown kids felt it would effect their pockets, instead of caring about their dads live life. It turned out she was perfect for him, but they were thinking about themselves first.

I met a really nice guy 8 months ago at a local happy hour establishment. He was trying to see me every day, and was falling for me really fast, and that scared me to death. I let him know that things were moving too fast, and I didn't feel comfortable about it. I believe everyone should take it slowly, because it isn't a race. Just enjoy being friends, and see how it goes. P.S. I'm in my 60's and have been married twice with grown children and a lovely granddaughter. Life without stress is the way to go!

I think what Gio is picking up on from Mom "pulling back vibe" is actually her intuition. We have these protections as a first sign that something isn't right about a person, place, or situation. I keep picking up on red flags, him taking 3 years to ask on date, then moving fast, he's probably love bombing her too. Then his daughters behavior, which is fine to talk to her dad about her concerns , but to approach your mom so rudely, all red flags. The daughters behavior is a reflection of the culture in which she herself has been raised in, so a reflection of who raised her. Prayers for protection over your Mom, all that is not for her may it be revealed, and removed from her path.

It's hard enough in today's society to be real and find a real person to date but at dollys age I have to give her credit for putting herself out there when she repeated what the daughter said to her with the smug face &eye roll it hurt my feelings for her this is a beautiful woman with life long history and she definitely didn't deserve that treatment.!!

Mom, don’t let anyone move u so fast at their pace and rush you. That’s not normal that your second date was to meet his girls, then the next date is to meet his family. It’s like he’s dictating how fast this will go and that he’s in charge. Ppl have to feel out others pace too. He’s not considering or allowing you to get comfortable with him first. You don’t even know him alone much yet, or know much about him. Having an interest in someone after a long time creates those butterflies, but thats superficial. U don’t know any of his habits, interest, or if that one daughter will create problems. She may never want her father to marry cause she may want dibs on his possessions, and she fears a future wife will ruin that for her. She may have selfish reasons. She seems too concerned about his money too soon. I think any man knows u r not that type immediately, and he most likely knows that too, but kids can be sizing up their parents assets for themselves. I have heard this before, and I’m so glad you spoke up to her the way you did, but it didn’t ease her mind because she’s not worried about ur interest as a gold digger. She knows your not. She’s concerned she will lose whatever inheritance she may get. She’s not protecting her father, shes protecting herself. That’s very clear to me. Ppl can see who u are. U did not stalk him. It seems he silently stalked u at the gym and felt you out tho. Then he winked or smiled. U did not target him. This daughter may put a monkey wrench into this, but I’m sure her father knows what she’s about. The nice daughter probably is different. Of course! Who does that. U want to be wined and dined with him alone with romance. Even if it’s just a bottle of wine by the beach. U want to tell funny stories together about life memories, fun times. Anything personal, not being stared at by strangers measuring u up when ur not even comfortable with the guy yet. I consider the way the one daughter reacted to you as a red flag for certain, because when you get into a relationship, you will also be interacting with this man's children and if she acts that way towards you right out of the gate, beware because that would be a deal breaker for me. Maybe she is being protective and I get that but she was rude and first impressions are very important and hint at what the future with her may look like. When you are in a relationship with him, you have to deal with his family and I would really be cautious, regardless of the man himself. Daughters can feel jealousy too- even when they are feeling protective. However, I think that remark was more than being protective - perhaps she’s protecting not just her father but she’s worried about what she could be losing too- all are understandable but dad’s happiness should come first. I completely understand your mother’s trepidation , and her desire to be admired by a man who’s not a player. She wants to feel special and I’m sure not looking to be one among many but the only one he’s interested in. Tell her to give his daughter time to accept her and get to know her because she’s a likable person who is not phony but funny, and personable . Your mom seems a little nervous about this. There is something making her take a step back, slow it down, her intuition is getting the best of her. He may be a great guy but it takes time to get to know someone, especially as we get older. Dolly will know in time if it is right for her. Better safe than sorry!

That's why I think "activity" days are the best, like miniature golf, bowling or going to a spectator event (the zoo, a sporting event, etc.). Or a cooking class or pottery class. Sticking to your standards will set you apart from the others. 🥰. That daughter concerns me. Who would be so rude when they first met someone?
I'm so glad Dolly that you proudly stood up for yourself when the older daughter pulled you aside. You responded in such a classy manner, surely with the addition of your trademark smile. Some woman still believe that they are "Daddy's Little Princess" and don't want to be de-throned by anyone! It's telling that she only verbalized her ,(supposed) concerns for her father when you were alone. I believe that she is attempting to scare you away, before the dating becomes more serious...otherwise she would have aired her concerns openly. I think that she may be the "gold digger". Does she actually work? In any case, a person has absolutely no obligation to leave their estate to their offspring. As a dog lover, her father may want to leave his estate to an animal shelter and that's entirely his prerogative. She is probably even annoyed that she may have to share her (assumed) inheritance with her "sweet" sister.
Even when she inevitably realizes that you don't need her father's money, it probably won't prevent her from trying to split you up. She will still be worried that her inheritance will be given to/shared with someone who isn't 'entitled' to, or doesn't 'deserve' it as much as she thinks she does.
Unfortunately, it's not that unusual for lovely mothers and/or fathers to have horrible children...& vice versa. A pleasant disposition isn't necessarily inherited either!
This gentleman probably already is aware that his daughters have different de[mean]ors.
Also, she is too old to be worrying that you are trying to replace her mother, so I don't think this is her problem with you. Due to her father's age (even though he is fit), she doesn't have to put in much more effort trying to keep women away from her father before she's in the "home straight".
You don't have to prove anything to anyone Dolly, but we know how hard you have worked and the sacrifices you made to protect your own mother and to raise your children so well. It's wonderful that the love has been reciprocated and that you are living life to the fullest.
If your romantic relationship does become serious, you don't want to spend every second of the day with this gentleman either. When he spends time with his family, with his big slobberly dog, or at the gym, you don't always need to be by his side. Just like he doesn't need to be there when you spend time with your family, with Gio making your videos, going to lunch/shopping etc.
If he proves to be of good character and is trustworthy, you can still be in a committed relationship without getting married. I think that you should both remain in your own homes, as you are both financially comfortable and can afford this freedom. Having your own space is priceless. I wish you the best and I really hope that it works out well for you, without you losing your sense of identity & independence.
Gio, I am impressed with the sensible advice to you gave to your mother. I don't believe in double standards either, however women do have to be more cautious around men because (in general) there is a power imbalance physically. Also, many in the older generation still think of men being "head of the household", having "the final say" and that women shouldn't worry their "pretty little head" about important decisions.
Let's hope this gentleman's opinions are as youthful as it sounds like his appearance is for his age. An interesting experiment would be to see whether he is prepared to be in the passenger seat when your mother drives.
Finally, it's amazing that men and women alike still see glamorous ladies as being femme fatales, when quite often it is "the ones you least suspect" who are the mistresses and job dodging gold diggers preying on the elderly.

I've been married for 46 years come the end of this year, I dated my husband for 6 months and then got married, and we have always had good communication, that is key. As you age and I’m 72 it’s difficult to date and I had 41 years with a beautiful man who died because of lung and brain cancer. I had one guy come down to my house to just visit and he was nice to visit with but I was not interested what so ever. Take your time. Do only what you feel is best for you only.
