Lance, did you heat up the milk in the microwave all the way up to the final temperature? In your other video about steaming milk using a steam wand, you said something about aerating up to the temperature of your hand and then whirl the rest of the way. So maybe the temperature wasn't right for making froth after microwave, and that affected the final "silky-milkiness".

No comparison. I thought you were asking pros/cons of the flair 58, which I cover there. I don't have experience with the la pavoni. Only able to work with equipment I have haha!
the cons of a la pavoni is temp stability. They are prone to overheating, so your shot amount is limited. They also take a while to warm up before you can use it and they take A LONG time to propperly cool down which it needs to do before you can refill the water tank

Constantly on the hunt for someone as talented as Lance or Hoffman to do a video on their intricate findings using the NanoFoamer. But these guys play at a level that can’t easily stoop to NanoFoamer from $1,000+ machines. And I get that, no Lambo professional will do a review on a mid-class vehicle. I must become that man myself, the student of the NanoFoam, the pupil-turned-leader of greatness, crafting my own budget microfoam capable of competing at high levels……. Or, maybe the nanofoamer truly isn’t as capable as I hoped 😆. Though this art looks insanely good with the nanofoamer. That did bring hope.
We’ve got our machine in for a service and have been using Picopresso and Nanofoamer for two weeks. Workflow / time isn’t so good. Coffee’s great if you get heat and grind size right. Milk one in every 3 lattes I’m happy with. Art always works but sometimes a little grainy, sometimes looks smooth but feels thin in the mouth and just occasionally good. Took about 10 goes to be pretty reliable.
@@billeterk I was never this confident with my nanofoamer, but I’m glad you’ve had decent results! I think I shared similar feelings for how the milk tuned out. But I was a beginner and had no idea how to pour at the time so I rarely got a great pour. Hope your main machine comes back soon!

I tried to listen to it through the phone and it's all robotic and I cannot understand a word. However, through headphones or speakers, you can understand but it sounds odd and disturbing.
Great video, as always! Two things to get more textured microfoam: stretch longer, like 5 seconds and maybe get you vortex a bit deeper if it doesn't mix in completely. Second tip, use the most powerful AA batteries you can find (2450 NiMH rechargeables prefered), as that will make a your Jedi light saber spin faster! Infinite pooowwwwaaaaaa!!!
Sure. Adding more air at the beginning will get more foam, but it still won't have that consistency to pass the shake test. Mostly because the integration simply isn't as tight as when stretching with a steam wand (able to create the microfoam in a different way that can't be replicated past 100F). This process was to get foam capable of latte art.
Great video Lance - question would you replace a conventional espresso machine with steam wand for the Flair 58 and Nanofoamer? Ps when are you going to drop some more beatbox X Workflow videos?
Thanks for the nanofoamer tips. I bought one but rarely use it since I have a hard time getting the consistency right. I hope someone creates a hack on how to keep it on rather than pressing the on button the entire time.
@@LanceHedrick hey! What’s would be your target shot length? You recommend after 15s preinfusion - how long should it ideally take to pull a 35g shot on the 58? Thanks!
Would you consider using an entry-level home machine to do a walk-thru on how to achieve good espresso / milk with? Something like the Breville Bambino Plus? Love your vids!
I have to wonder what the tamper you use is. I know you have a breville dual boiler and I have been using an Espro calibrated. I think it works great, but it isn't the tightest fit on the portafilter. I seem to find a ring on the edges of some un-tamped coffee sitting unsettled. Do you think that this might be an area to improve on channeling? I would be interested in seeing your thoughts! Lastly I must saw great video! I love watching even if this is not my ideal prep style, but I will recommend it to a friend I know who is doing this at home! Keep it up Lance! Great video again
So this is full "this is my third cup of coffee" vibes but I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you're just like this all the time. Not that I mind, just an observation.
I've been dialing my 58x and I've had my go (without any technique reference) at latte art with microwave milk and a frother and it's been unsuccessful... But yours looks amazing. New fuel to dial the process! Thanks for the walkthrough
And here I've been taking my milk out of the microwave every 15 seconds to stir it because that's what the internet said I had to do to prevent it from scalding.
Is the voice muffled for everyone or just me? I didn't see any comments commenting this so maybe just me. But I tried refreshing many times and still can't hear the audio properly. Nevertheless thanks for the video
there is one thing about these 'foamers' that no reviewer touches - the taste of milk: a proper steamer makes milk lose most of its 'raw milk' taste, while those foamers do not. For me this is a deal breaker - that's why I don't use them
Well, I'm gonna stop the french press method since it gave too much foam, I can't even make single successful latte art with it. You know when I poured it, it became a mountain of milk, and all the coffee was gone. I tried to stir it and still white lol.
I'm skeptical of this. I have continued to use the nanofoamer and gotten some good texture, but I've still not gotten a replication of the creamy texture from a steam wand
@@LanceHedrick all I can say is, next time you’re in NJ stop by and I’ll make you a latte then you can tell me if you’re still skeptical. Big fan here!
I just bought the NanoFoamer thinking I could make latte art with the oat milk my wife and I normally buy. After all, my local cafe does latte art with oat milk! After watching all of Lance's latte art videos and eagerly attempting it and promptly failing, I was sad to learn I'll need to buy either special-purpose "barista grade" oat milk or regular milk (yuck) to get decent foam. I'll certainly do that but it seems my latte art journey is not going to become part of my daily coffee adventures, as I'd hoped when I learned about the NanoFoamer. I hope other oat milk drinkers will read this and at least be aware of this issue before purchasing the device. It's not Subminimal's fault, of course, and I'm still glad I bought it.
@@LanceHedrick thanks for the info! I am guessing that it depends a lot on the brand. Better technique would no doubt help as well. This is the article that said regular oat milk wouldn't work: www.farmdrop.com/blog/best-alternative-milk-coffee-latte-art/
@@rbmanb I'm sure it's great. The problem is I'm not just buying it for myself, and I'm presuming there's an added cost to it. I'm fine with buying the special purpose one occasionally, but it's hard to justify making the switch permanently.

Mostly because the integration simply isn't as tight as when stretching with a steam wand (able to create the microfoam in a different way that can't be replicated past 100F). This process was to get foam capable of latte art.
thanks man! now i know how to make a good latte. . .

now i just need the tools..
Hahaa that’s what I said a year ago! It took me a whole year of practicing one cup a day to get it right lol
The tools are certainly necessary haha when you get them, these videos are here!
SIR LANCE-A-LATTE!!
My moniker. I love it haha!
Great video Lance - question would you replace a conventional espresso machine with steam wand for the Flair 58 and Nanofoamer?
Ps when are you going to drop some more beatbox X Workflow videos?
Hey! I would, depending on the machine. Especially with the smart espresso profiler!
I have no issue with the audio either. Sounds clean and clear to me.
Mine doesn't work properly at all. Very strange. The music is perfect and can barely hear Lance.
Thanks for the nanofoamer tips. I bought one but rarely use it since I have a hard time getting the consistency right.
I hope someone creates a hack on how to keep it on rather than pressing the on button the entire time.
For sure. That is an annoyance for sure!
I cut up some small pieces of masking tape and stuck about 4 layers on top of the copper plate, makes it quite a bit easier to activate the switch
I drilled a hole in the top and soldered a 5V power supply to it. So it works on full power without pressing. Aooo much better
Loved the video! What was your espresso dose before grinding and your yield was 35g correct? Thanks! Leaned a ton!
Just rewatched the video and you do say what your dose is - 20g - somehow I missed it! Great work as always!
Thank you, friend!
Absolutely. Thank you for the idea!
Can you do latte art with 'nanofoamed' skim milk?
That would be very difficult. Skim milk will foam up a ton. I've not actually tried it though.
Hey! Thanks for the kind words. I use an artpresso tamper
Audio sounds… well not great m. Hopefully just an upload issue
Maybe need to invest in a separate microphone
Thank you
That familiar sound when you remove the nanofoamer from its case.
You have the fine screen in the case dont you! 😂
HA so not just me 😆😆
Hahaha! I do. It's true. Lol
Whoa have times changed over 3 years 🤯
Hey! Can you please consider making a review on budget espresso machines like the Delonghi Dedica?
I'm about to do a video in a few weeks on the Gaggia classic pro! My Patreon members voted on it!
*BOOOOOM!* 👊🏻
My truest fan 🙏🏻
@@LanceHedrick - Still, really enjoying the content Lance. Keep up the great work! 👍🏻
So this is full "this is my third cup of coffee" vibes but I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you're just like this all the time.
Not that I mind, just an observation.
Only when putting on a show
I've been dialing my 58x and I've had my go (without any technique reference) at latte art with microwave milk and a frother and it's been unsuccessful... But yours looks amazing. New fuel to dial the process! Thanks for the walkthrough
Looks like a nice duo overall, thanks Lance
For sure is! It makes some nice brews
Great video. Audio could do with some improvements, but very good, thank you!
And here I've been taking my milk out of the microwave every 15 seconds to stir it because that's what the internet said I had to do to prevent it from scalding.
Haha! Very odd. I would recommend doing it on the stove for best results, but in a pinch, the mw is fine
I think the sound effects are a must as well. Without them you WILL fail
Nice.
Is the voice muffled for everyone or just me? I didn't see any comments commenting this so maybe just me. But I tried refreshing many times and still can't hear the audio properly. Nevertheless thanks for the video
5:03 - Turkey Sub!
Sounds like sound was recorded through a muffler over cellular with no tower in your vicinity...
Please correct audio and reupload.
Won't look, hope for a re-upload
Our first machine was a manual.
Lance - WHAT is that next to your fridge built into the lower cabinets?!!
Is that a tiny fridge/freezer of some sort? It looks amazing.
Haha I have no clue. This isn't my house lol!
I feel duped because the title says Flair 58X, but it’s really a Flair 58!
Ha! The x was meant as a way to tie the two things together lol
Flair x nanofoamer
there is one thing about these 'foamers' that no reviewer touches - the taste of milk: a proper steamer makes milk lose most of its 'raw milk' taste, while those foamers do not. For me this is a deal breaker - that's why I don't use them
Well, I'm gonna stop the french press method since it gave too much foam, I can't even make single successful latte art with it. You know when I poured it, it became a mountain of milk, and all the coffee was gone. I tried to stir it and still white lol.
Oh that stinks! Look into the nanofoamer!
Audio is terrible
Once you get your Nanofoamer technique down the milk will taste just like milk from steam wand
Oh for sure! Will do
I just bought the NanoFoamer thinking I could make latte art with the oat milk my wife and I normally buy.
What's wrong with special purpose barista grade oat milk? Oatly does excellent barista version. As well as others do.
This isn't accurate. I was able to do it with store bought pay.
That blog was written by someone not very good at latte art I'd imagine haha! I have done it with store bought oat.
I think it passed the test, there's just a little bit much in there =]
I don't know what all the fuse about the audio is. I just watched it with my two kids in the room smashing up lego and I heard it all fine
It might be a thing from computer to computer. I'm not sure. But thank you!
Audio problemss
