That appears to be a box plate that attached to a cartridge box. They look just like a buckle from the front, but the back tells the story. That’s a great find, and a definite bucket list CW relic! Congratulations!
Those are some great finds!!! I hope that soldier made it out of there ok. You are the keeper of his items now, take good care of them! You have a great channel!!! Good luck to you on your next time out!!!
OH YECK YEAH !! WOW buddy I just told you last week that I hoped you would find one soon and you did it LOL that is crazy man well done too :) So happy for you as well :) A BIG CONGRATS too !! Awesome box plate too, ATB - David & Daniel
Man I’m happy for ya. Couldn’t of happened to a better dude. Too bad them boys weren’t there for that, brother. Very cool to be able to stop when it’s hot hunting. God approves that approach. No greed.
That buckle is like the holy grail and it looks like you are shaking i shake like crazy when i find something good. I go detecting at Bentonville Battlefield civil war site here in North Carolina on some private property and i found half a buckle i think a tractor plow hit it but i searched for days trying to find the other half but I never found it so I was heart broken but i still had fun and found cool things so that's all that matters.
Absolutely! I met a guy a while back that said if they could bottle the feeling of finding a relic like that, the drug problem would go away! Thank you for watching, and wish you the best on your hunts!
I'm happy for you brother!!! It's awesome and better yet, you got it on video coming out of the ground!! A buckle or plate is on top of my list, hopefully one day I will get on one.
I find any old maps that I can. Library of Congress has some links online. Also check local libraries for local historic maps, overlay them on modern maps, and start knocking on doors in areas that might be promising. As always in metal detecting, be prepared to strikeout a lot! But it makes it that much sweeter when you find that spot that provides artifacts!
I honestly haven’t done a lot of research on the style of it. I just assumed it was lost by a soldier or the original property owner. Thanks for the comment! I didn’t know where to start!

How do you find old battlegrounds? I am in Chicago, so I assume I am far from any, but when I am traveling.
