- Hello Everyone,
This new 2022 Outback Wilderness has a HUGE infotainment screen. In this video, I will install a screen protector on both the infotainment screen and the Instrument Cluster with Screen Protech. And if your touchscreen does not respond after installation, give it a day or two to dry.
(*Correction* - I thought I received HD Flim, but it's Anti-Glare, which I prefer.)
Thank you all for tuning in.

I live in Arizona, the first thing I bought was this Screen ProTech kit. The wet application made it so simple, don’t be afraid to spray liberally when applying!
Oh, sweet!! Thanks for your tip.
I bought this and I was really excited because of the anti-glare and I really loved the matte look that covered the buttons as well! I applied the film and I loved it until I turned it on and the loss of screen quality turned me off. I didn’t think it was going to be as hazy as it was and it made me a bit sad because I took it off and I basically threw away $70 😕. And the film for the instrument panel was a bust and I went through the emergency film. I wish you turned the screen on after showing the installation for better information but oh well. Live and learn lol.
I finally got some time and decided to complete this off my OBW “to do list”. I found the screen and shift surround area to be pretty easy to apply. I left my speedometer screen area undone. I guess all those years of putting screens on curved portions on my phones paid off. I am very happy with the result, these are awesome. Thanks
That is good to hear!! And yes, it is kinda like putting on a cell phone screen protector!
Your videos are exceptional I really enjoy all of them. Your are an amazing teacher and your enthusiasm is contagious. Thanks so much for your sharing your knowledge and keep up the great work.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate that and your encouragement keeps me going at this UA-cam thing. LOL
Just ordered the screen protector for my SCW. I sure hope mine comes out as good as yours, but then again @Chasingadventure your mods, camping setups, food prep, and panoramic beautiful views of the landscapes you take images on are superb. Please make more content, I find them both most relaxing, and exhilarating. Humble observer trying to maximize my enjoyment as a Subaru owner. Thank you for sharing your journeys.
Hey, Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it.
Great video, we will be ordering and giving a go. You also showed that you changed out the area of the gear shifter to a carbon fiber piece. It looked to not be a peel and stick. Which product did you use. Also did you have a video of the install?
Thanks! I used carbon fiber look vinyl that I pick up on Amazon. Lot of heat gun and effort went into that piece. 😆
Great video! I'm thinking of buying an Outback and it's the little things that I want to get perfect. Like you said, piano black finishes are absurd on cars. This gives a nice and clean look and the peace of mind that it is protected for years.
Thank you! I appreciate it 🙏 and yes it will give you peace of mind!
Funny you just posted this as I just ordered this kit today and some interior LEDs.
I had to repost it.. take your time with it!! And spray lots of solution.
It kinda gives a satin look to it. Awesome job. Takes patience..my 2016 Crosstrek is way too beat up with about 200;000 miles on. I call it my off road tank. I think I will try it on my 2018 Hyundai Kona. Waiting for the 2024 Crosstrek wilderness. I WILL OWN ONE, be well and safe my friend. To you and your family.
Hey, the tank needs love, too! 😆 Knoa should be fairly easy. And to you and family as well!
Oh and I thought I was getting HD Clear film but in fact it was the satin anti Glare film. Glad they sent this one.
Very helpful. Hope I can do with my Crosstrek 2024.
anybody can. just need to take your time and use plenty of solution.
Excellent guide man appreciate the tips. How long did you wait until you put the phone holder on the screen? I bought the same one you did just not sure how long to wait after applying the film.
Thank you. I waited 24 hours before I put the cell phone holder and its still on there.
Just did my OBW today. The screen was not bad at all but the shifter surround was a PITA. It still has bubbles and I might have to redo it. I got the anti-reflective film and it does slightly blur the image but its nice not to have any glare.
Yeah. Slight blurry with the Anti reflective flim. How did the instrument cluster come out?
@@ChasingAdventuresCO I probably wont do the cluster. I never had an issue with getting scratches on the cluster.
I did around the shifter twice and both times there were issues. Takes awhile for the bubbles to go away, but I had some dust leftover and it’s driving me nuts. Might try his carbon fiber solution.
I got the anti-glare for the nav screen too, from the recommendation made in this video. That was a mistake. It's fuzzy. Too fuzzy. I am going to go with a cheaper Amazon glass cover. Screen Pro Tech is too expensive to do theirs again.
I also had bubbles in the shifter surround. I don't believe anyone who says they did it without bubbles. There are so many curved surfaces. Better than scratches, but no way it goes on perfect.
Still rolling with mine. Screen has been good as I have gotten use to the slight blur. Shifter surround is not perfect but good enough. I got rid of the one bubble with a needle awhile back. @@cloudoftime
can you do a tutorial on how to remove the center console to wrap it with vinyl please 😩
@wildxtrex made an excellent video showing us how to remove the console ua-cam.com/video/Cev8X0HVK5s/v-deo.htmlsi=8E6y5BmMBXwtY1UY
Have you had any issues with your phone holder sticking to the Nav Screen protector screen? I have a magnetic phone holder but mine looks to be a bit bigger than yours. Thanks in advance. And thanks for the great video. I've been contemplating on the CF mod too, but I wish it was the same pattern that's on the door.
no issues at all. its been holding well even with all the off-roading.
Where did you get the carbon fiber vinyl? That one looks good
Got it on Amazon. The Amazon parts list link is in the video description
this is fantastic! going to be ordering soon! what product did you purchase for the carbon fiber wrap for the lower section and shifter top? Thanks!
Thanks and I used a 3d carbon fiber vinyl I purchased from Amazon. Check out the description for the link!
@@ChasingAdventuresCO thanks!!
@@Bajablast_scuba_cat anytime!
You didn't show the nav screen turned on. I went with the anti-glare for the nav screen, and that was a mistake. It makes the text fuzzy. I am now going to go with a cheaper glass protector from Amazon. Screen Pro Tech is ridiculously expensive.
The "center console" (around the shifter) cover is ridiculous to apply. There are so many curved surfaces I do not believe anyone who claims they have accomplished the application without bubbles. I'm still glad to have it despite the bubbles. Better than scratches, and I don't know of any other company offering protectors for this surface. But it was $80 for all 3 surfaces.
It does lose a little bit of clarity but is much better than having a glare. Plus, it's also great for reducing fingerprints
Appreciate the review. Surprised you didn’t show perhaps the most important aspect, is how the well touch screen responds/how much of a difference there is between stock version. The touchscreens in these can already be fickle, and tbh I worry about something that could make that even a smidge worse.
thanks for pointing that out. I will make sure to implement it next time and to answer your questions, the responses are the same and with the antiglare film, there is no smidge/fingerprint on the screen but you do lose a little bit of clarity
good info thanks; the pixel quality on this screen is actually pretty phenomenal compared to lot of other cars. minus the front/rear view camera quality (which is unfortunate 😢) losing a little bit of that clarity prob not a deal-breaker, considering the benefits of this. those early AM/late PM drives can create a nasty glare that is 'uncurable' with the visors lol.
glad to hear the responsiveness of sceen is not dampened. think the issue is the chip/memory of the computer running the sceen, just often enough the lag/initial prompts etc can be sluggish, and glad the protector doesn't make that any worse!
keep up the good work on the vids! @@ChasingAdventuresCO
@@kernzilla yeah, the benefits of anti-glare are definitely worth it.
Awesome vid of an awesome product!!! And, it saves me making one, lol!!! I've showcased this on our pages.
Thank you! I appreciate it.
LOL .. I live in the desert Southwest and dust is just part of life. I vacuum what I can but that's about it. As for the outside I get alot of AZ pinstripping but it usually rubs right out. If you come to AZ better figure a different way to mount your Rotopax .. otherwise they will be gone .. DAMHIK .. LOL
I live out here in the desert of Tonopah AZ. Yep if anyone gets dust it sure is us. No fun but just part of life. That would be a waste for me to buy.
Haha it's the same here. I only have it on when heading to the mountains. Otherwise, it's off the car. And if you live in dusty area, it should be more reason to install these~
@@Therealgirlinthedesert it should be more reason to get these and install them to prevent scratch.
Looks great! Did you by chance have the headlights and or fog lights also filmed? I did see another UA-camr tackle that on his OBW. Also, did you have a link to the gear shift protector? Much appreciated!
Thanks and just the Fogs. I put yellow film on it. The gear shift protector is a 3d carbon vinyl I purchased on Amazon and did a DYI. Unfortunately I didn't make a video of it.. I should have. 😔
Just ordered mine! Hopefully the anti-glare helps cuz sometimes you can even see parts of the screen during the day.
Awesome!! The Anti Glare really does help and please take your time when your tackling the instrument panel and push out the edge of the film
Anti-glare makes the text fuzzy. Wish I had not listened to this recommendation.
Where is the video for the center console the carbon fiber one ? ❤️❤️
Unfortunately, that was my very first mod and didn't make a video of it.
Where did you purchase the center cover console vinyl? Thank you
amzn.to/3Rx13Zr
Excellent video, as always! (I have spent a lot of money on my '22 OBW thanks to this channel and no regrets!) I was looking for the video or a lick to the carbon fiber gear shift installation but can't find it...? Thanks!
Hahaha thanks Eric!! 😊 I appreciate it. 🙏 and unfortunately, the wrap I did was the first mod, and I didn't make a video because I didn't know how it would turn out.
Was it hard and do you have a link to the product?
@stereode1uxe it does take some practice, but nothing major hard. The link is in the video description under Amazon list
Can you show how you did the carbon fiber installation
very true and I also think like you. glad we are on the same page.
Hi Did your outback has roof cracking noise when drive in uneven road? I had two two outback, they both has this noise from the roof
Not that I've noticed.
Question where do you find the center console wraps/films like the carbon fiber one you have?
I got it on Amazon. Link is in the video description under Amazon list
Great idea. Question - what did you get for the carbon fiber look? Does yours have the P R N D window next to the shifter - looks covered on your video.
I just got the whole vinyl from Amazon and did it my self and it is covered. but our dash board tells us what gear we are in so it doesn't bother me. link to the item is in the video description.
@@ChasingAdventuresCO Thanks.
@@images-xi2ks anytime!
Did my touchscreen this morning and it was great! Any additional info you have for applying the carbon fiber film to the shifter console? I applied the film there also, however, you can still see scratches under it.
must have been deep scratches or give it some time to fully cure and see. and to apply the carbon fiber vinyl, you need a heat gun to stretch out the vinyl for a few places, and once applied, make sure to heat up the vinyl so that it loses the memory and doesn't pop back up. and TAKE your TIME!! LOL😄
Hi, do you have an installation video for the carbon fiber gear shift overlay?
sorry, I don't
Where did you get the carbon fiber for around the gear shifter? Thank you so much.
Purchased the vinyl on amazon. amzn.to/4aRB9Gv
Can you add your carbon fiber center console wrap/skin product information? Don't see it in your Amazon list. Thanks
HI, its in the Amazon list amzn.to/3Fj2i7l I use this vinyl to cover the center console.
That seems like a lot of liquid on electronics no?
its fine~ everything still works just fine.
It is a lot. Really sketchy. Kind of a risk, but I did it. Big mistake too, because the anti-glare makes the text on the nav screen fuzzy.
Do you have a link for the carbon fiber Consol protector?
I bought it from Amazon. The link is in the video description. but it's a roll of vinyl that I cut to make it fit the console.
Did you do a video of the center console carbon fiber mod? I did not see a video for it in the list
Unfortunately, I don't. It was my first mod, and I didn't know how it was going tourn out.
Any chance you recorded the application of the carbon fiber vinyl to your center console? That looks absolutely amazing and would be something I would try, but not sure where to even start… besides using your affiliate link to buy the vinyl. 😉
Unfortunately, I do not.. it was my first mod? To the car before I decided to do make videos of my mods. But watching other professionals' car wrappers definitely helped
@@ChasingAdventuresCO Thank you for replying! Really appreciate you taking the time to share all your Subaru fun with all of us!!
@rodneywk1 no problem ~ I am just here to help out the community~ if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask anytime 😊
Where did you buy that carbon fiber cover around the shift knob?
I bought it from Amazon. The link is in the video description..
I don’t see a link, am I missing something?
@kwelitysoul it's in the Amazon link and under everything subaru
Do you think it's better to operate on screen after installation? because the original screen feels stuck when swiping on the screen.
yes!! it's so much better.
@@ChasingAdventuresCOI seem to have sluggish screen responses on my new 2024 Outback Limited. It's nothing like a Pixel. Would a screen protector make this worse, because repeatedly tapping a screen at 70 mph isn't safe
Great video! I am wondering what the anti glare one will look like in person? ❓
Thanks and I thought I was getting HD film but this is the Anti Glare film and I am actually glad I got this 👍 😅 it looks good.
The anti-glare film makes the text look fuzzy. Wish I had not listened to this recommendation.
I agree. I got the anti-glare one and I probably should've gotten the HD film. @@cloudoftime
@@seanyu5714 what do you think of the anti glare film now after living with it for a few months? Thanks.
Thank you! Question - I just got a 2024 OBW.
Do I order the screen protector WITH the camera cutout, or WITHOUT the camera cutout??? I don’t even know what the ‘camera cutout’ is referring to.
If any can let me know that would be great. Thanks!
your OBW should have a front camera and the control is right next to your shifter so you should get the one with the camera cutout.
My concern with my new outback is the $4000 that head unit costs if it would go bad in the 10 years I plan on owning this car. I would be afraid to spray all that water around that thing, are those buttons sealed?
Water and electronics don’t mix.
I could see how you could be worried but so far it has not affected the electronics and works just fine.
Let us know where you got the carbon fiber Vinyl
Got it on Amazon. The link to the vinyl is in the video description under Amaozn list under everything Subaru. Thanks!
Looks great with the screen off, but how does it look with it on?
Less Glare, but you do sacrifice a tiny bit of clarity with this anti Glare film, but the instrument cluster had an HD clear film, and that is crystal clear.
The text looks fuzzy. It's an understatement to say "you sacrifice a bit of clarity." I wish I had not listened to the recommendation. Screen Pro Tech is too expensive.
If you redid it, would you go with the clear or matte screen?
I would still go with the matte
I have a 2020 outback limited is the screen the same size I have the 11.6 inch?
Not sure. You can check out their website for details and correct one for your car.
I tried to take out some scratches from my digital instrument cluster and now on some spots when the sun its beating in the screen i have some purple haze , Will a screen protector hide this ?and what type of screen protector its better
depending on how deep the scratch is but if its mostly light surface scratches, this should hide most of them. and I prefer the matte finish because it does help with glare and fingerprints. tho, you do loose bit of clarity.
@@ChasingAdventuresCO in that place where i tried to take the scratches out now i have that purple haze ,the scratches are no more but that reflective purple glare when the sun is directly in the screen you know….that drives me crazy, only from some angles you can see it
Where can I order this?
The link is in my video description.
Ordered some for my obw. Says lable made 10 days ago. No reply from customer support after hand full of emails sent for updates or status. Chunk of cash down the drain. Beware
Oh no. I am sure there is some kind of mistake. Have you tried calling them?
Nevermind.. they don't have a contact number. I'm sure it will be sorted out soon.
If you paid with a credit card contact your credit card company about disputing the charge
Did it ever come? Hopefully you got a refund.
I relay liked the Suberu until I saw the huge Touch Screen / Infotainment System in the New Subaru's. I do not want this in my car. Give me back buttons, switches, and dials. Like what I could get a few years ago. Give me a option with out the Touch Screen / Infotainment System.
Well I love physical buttons too but the infotainment screen hasn't given me any issues and I got used to it.
@@ChasingAdventuresCO This has occurred on my Uncles car. The Screen / Infotainment system died. You could not access or control anything. This killed the car.
that sucks. hope he got it fixed under the warranty
@@ChasingAdventuresCO Yes, This was a used Automobile. The Warranty had expired. Attempts where made to repair the Screen / Infotainment System. However, this did not solve the problem, Unfortunately.
What car was this because the wilderness came out 2022 so it should had warranty still
The tech in the subaru is complete garbage
Why do you say that?
How so?
