As a proffessional stiltwalker there are a few important things I would add to the design for comfort and safety. Screw on some bicycle tire to the bottom of the stilt leg for grip. Widen the stilt strap for comfort and ALWAYS wear kneepads
thx but now with the current pandemic I cant do this idea I had. It was a four legged demon and I could stand up on to and these arm stilts I got would just be dangling my friends thought it was creepy with the prototype
@@7ThePrimagen I was thinking of doing the same thing as dressing up as a hollowgast for Halloween.
Lady Dimitrescu anyone?
Thank you, you have helped my Halloween costume
@@the_medicine_peddler8324 thats what brought me here lol
I made these stilts about a year ago, I added rubber flat square stoppers on the bottom to help walk on the cement, they work really well and they make me, a 5. Foot 13 year old, 8 feet tall
Gracias Profesor...se entiende perfectamente su explicación.

For me, the ideas in ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxy_pn55PK60wAV3X_C_RoLS_67mNonoCE Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.
As a short person, I want to personally thank you.
A few items of note from someone who makes stilts in this classic design for people who walk parades and other gigs professionally:
1. Use high quality 2x2's. Pine is ok IF you are only going to about 2' or making kids stilts, but DO NOT get the #2 pine you see in the video. #2 pine tends to warp more and can split at the knots or other imperfections which can lead to bad injuries. It's not super common, but I've known of it happening and it's not worth the risk to save a few bucks. The better quality stuff goes by a couple names. #1 pine, clear pine, premium wood, etc. Any lumber yard should know what you're looking for and most will carry it.
2. Taller stilts or stilts for heavier people should really be out of stronger woods. Oak works, but it's heavy. A lot of folks I know swear by mahogany. It's pricey and you usually have to buy a slab of mahogany from a woodcraft shop and cut them down to 2x2. But if you plan to stilt a lot it's pretty light and very strong. I've made 2 pairs out of it and I'd agree with that assessment.
3. Don't skimp on velcro. Use hardware grade velcro from a hardware store. It's often used for hanging pictures, etc. I never use anything other than 2" thick stuff with a good weight limit with two screws to secure it. And even my stuff comes undone. The thin stuff in the video might be okay for a lap or two around the yard, but if you or your kid(s) like it and want to stilt more that stuff will give out quickly.
4. Use wood glue between all of the wood parts right before you tighten the hardware. It prevents slippage and reduces maintenance between walks. Gorilla Glue makes a good, strong glue. I know some pros that use really high end glues and skip the hardware altogether. DON'T do that if you don't know what you're doing. I'm just noting that a good adhesive adds a lot of strength (and safety) to the stilts.
5. Pull up the insole from the shoes and put the screws into the shoe bed directly and use washers with the screws then put the insoles back in.. It's a little tricky to get the angle right with the washers, but if you don't use them the screws will eventually work their way through the bottom of the shoes which is not safe. I actually prefer flat head phillips head bolts instead of wood screws as they're a little more substantial. Home Depot has them. You put them through the foot plates and secure them with wing nuts for easier tightening without tools if you're marching parades, etc.
6. You can extend the life of your stilts by cutting 6" lengths of bike tire and stapling them to the bottoms of the legs using 1/2" staples.
7. Less important, safety-wise, but aluminum stilt cuffs work better than the plastic piping. You can usually get them from drywall supply companies.
Wow. Thanks for the tips.
I know this comment's a year old, but I need advice. I plan on making stilts like these but the part on adding more support for Prolonged use confuses me. Where does the extra 2x2 exactly go? What 10 in dimension is he talking about?
Zombie walk parade coming up. I want to walk in it...about a one mile loop. What can you do to save yourself from injury if you fall?
Wow, crazy helpful, thank you!
What’s the tallest stilts you ever had to make
I'm going to use this for my sirenhead halloween costume. Many thanks for the good video!
this is great thanks! I want to be a stilt walker for this Halloween and this helps a lot!

Excellent design and excellent video. Thank you for posting.
You can also lift the lining on the inside of the shoe and place the screws underneath.

You can do it!
Great video you did a awesome job...
Gracias felicitaciones y siempre adelante
Very cool!! Planning on building my own for a video on my channel!
Tyvm I appreciate you
size of plywood? and dimensions of the triangles please.
1/2" is okay, 3/4" is better. I cut my foot plates to rough shoe shapes using a jigsaw because my family stilts with cuffs which are hard to get over rectangular plates. Just trace around the shoe directly on the ply for a template and do a rough cut around it. If you do rectangles it's the same sort of deal, just measure out to the longest and widest points of the shoes you'll use, mark with a straight edge and there you go. The important thing is fitting to the shoe. I actually cut the triangles the same way. Mark the long side of the triangle to an inch or so shorter than the shoes (kid stilts just do the full length). I usually measure the side cuts at 60 degrees.
AWESOME!!!!!!!! I'm wanna try to cosplay as either Sundrop or Moondrop
I made some of these thanks! They are awesome. Just a word of advice to anyone, use running shoes or shoes that have ankle support. I used vans and the only thing thing that feels not so sturdy is in the heel of it feels like my feet will come out even when tied tightly.
Can you stand still in these?
Muito massa 👍
My dad wouldn't let me make these because he said that "if you fall, your knees are done for"
Kneepads. It's all about kneepads. Drywall kneepads are good but can be a little bulky. Most pro stilters I know use heavy duty skating kneepads like what derby girls use. My family is a circus family. We all walk parades on stilts, often for miles, on stilts ranging from 1' to 3' (considering 4's, but we don't have them yet). And my wife marches with dozens of other people in parades around Wisconsin and surrounding states. And there's a local organization that trains dozens of kids a year to stilt. It's no more dangerous than riding a bike BUT you do need to train falls on a soft surface like grass first. It's far, far more important to learn how to fall than how to walk on stilts. Learn to bias toward falling back instead of forward. I've seen some falls, including some spectacular ones from my kids, but I've never seen anyone blow out a knee. Scrapped elbows, bruised butts, sure. But with the right pads and some practice knees aren't much of a concern.

That is why you put padding in them
If you're worried about your knees, then just land on something else. Wrists are a fun option

Your in luck it 2019 just a year more
I found that if you put a big washer in the middle screw in the shoe, the shoe will not get ripped out through the soul.
gonna try and use these for a mecha suit dva cosplay. ty for the tips
those were so cool I am making mine for Hallloween
Nice
Exelente trabajo lo más sencillo que ví y lo más práctico tendrías que tener un canal en español gracias por el vídeo
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching!
How much did it cost all together
Do you know the weight limit of these particular stilts? Thanks for the video my stilts are almost done! This video helped very much!
+Stephen Elliott It is hard to say. I walked on them and I weigh 160. Glad it helped!
I want to be the Puppet from FNAF this year so these will work. Just am gonna need kneepads.
Boi I've been searching all day for something like this, all the over videos were insanely complex or using items I can't get easily . This is incredibly simple and I cannot wait to try it for my Halloween costume, when wearing them, do you have any extra tips?
Thank you for watching and commenting!
From what i've seen, try putting a high friction material like rubber on the ground-hitting part, makes it easier to navigate
Instead of bolts and washer can I use wood glue and fasteners
Nice video! I was wondering though, is the parts list for two or only one stilt?
two
cool
What would the weight limit on these be?
Idk if you still going to answer this but.
I want to make a wendigo costume and I'm planing to use this for the legs, would it be okay if I put EVA/paperboard around this to make it looks like a leg?
Also, would it work if I use this model to make long arms?
Yes, you can put anything you want on the legs as long as they dont become a tripping hazzard.
Woah!!!!!
Can you stand still with them? If not, can you add an attachment to the bottom to allow it?
You need to move a bit continuously to stay balanced making the base longer so far from your feet will make it worse as you have no ankle movement and will hinder balance as it will not be under your ankle.
Plasterers stilts have a long flat base but tilt with the foots tilt like when you walk without stilts they are much more complex with all the pivots and springs.
but you can stay in place useful for plastering but not so much fun.
Незаменимы для сада,обрывать вишню и груши с верхних веток( почему не вспомнила раньше,ведь мы в детстве ходили на ходулях)
Will cloth garters be a good alternative for velcro strips?
I was thinking belts
I am 5'4'', and plan on using these along with crutches to give the illusion of having 4 legs. How should I modify in this case? If I need to at all?
You will probably want to make them shorter. The arm crutches will be longer so you can keep most of the weight on your legs.
I want one of them number so I can call to order a moko jumbie stilis
Buenas tardes , puede compartir las medidas?
I see there is materials in the description is that enough for both stilts?
Yes it is. Thanks for watching.
I want to make these just to be tall (I'm 5'3" and I hate it)
I want to make these just to be taller, (I'm 6'5" and I love it)
I'm 5' 2" I'm not complaining
Specs the Squid try being 4’11 😕
I'm the same height well actually half a quarter from it and I'm fine with my height honestly though my sixteen year old sister is only 4'11 and a quarter so around her I'm tall.
at least ur above 5' tall
I’m using some stilts to become jack the Halloween king for Halloween
"I love walking."
Now what if i add shoes to the bottom were over sized pants and hide in tje closet and when someone opens it i scare them ...?
I'm planning on being a land strider this halloween, but i probably won't have enough money for materials in time, so I'll probably do it for a convention my town has in February.
Just finished making a pair and they are fantastic! Thanks for sharing.
+Nicola Kuhn Awesome!
I’m making a Cosplay and this lady is 9 feet tall so this is a help
Is there any chance to make an adjustable stilts .
Use the adjustable parts from a pair of crutches
Ima make these and cosplay SCP 096 at Anime Expo 2017
Also how much distance is it from the shoe to the ground (how much taller will it make me)
It is 24 inches.
Thank u!! I’ll definitely use this to base off of when I hopefully maybe make some. (I really wanna make a huggy wuggy costume)
Might use these for my Jack Skellington Halloween costume
Hope it works awesome!
Cool! What's the estimated cost?
$25.00 to $30.00

Pretty good, but your materials list at the bottom of the description should include the wood screws, plywood, and shoes.
Thanks for the tip.
How much is the maximum weight capacity?
Not sure.
Thanks i need this to be the angel of death

+Dj Techno We used scrap plywood and shoes. The 2x2 cost $1.20 and the velcro cost bout $5.00.

How much did this cost?
Nothing if you steal everything 😅

Try lowes or home depot.
@@icreatablestv I looked at lowes
I once used stilts when i was young but then i got scared of almost breaking my ankle 😖😖😖😖
not me being 5'1 and watching this for a slenderman cosplay 😭
I want to be the new it
I had stilts when I was younger, but they were the full length kind you hold onto. I was quite good at it, could even stand still, or walk uphill. I miss it. I'd love to try again, but I have a foot injury that I'm afraid would be stressed if I tried it now. :-(
Thank you, I can now be a storm trooper without my friends knowing who I am for I am notoriously short
i can finally be an enderman
your son should work at a haunted house :D
He does:)
Thats awesome :) I have for 2 years now. Which one is it?

Would you suggest using these for cosplay? (I want to go as Opal from Steven Universe, and she's about 7 feet tall, I would be about 7'6 in these) The problem is that I will have to design some leg casings for the stilts to make the structure look like part of my legs, and blend nicely into my knees.
