Not really since he bought a Tesla yeah they require less service but what he said about Car Enthusiasts wasn't necessary because car enthusiasts love vehicles okay so they first buy a daily driver like a normal vehicle most likely my first car might be a Hyundai Elantra Hybrid then when the scrape up some money they buy their first sports car or such or maybe even a second normal vehicle, then they don't buy another car but then you get in you're 30s at a dead end job you have enough money so you splurge it on a nice fancy new sports car and that is the cycle of the car enthusiast usually they would not buy a new fancy car more likely a used car maybe 90s or 80s but most likely 2000s cars so is buying a Tesla worth it I do not know since I will most likely never buy one I would most likely buy a Hybird or PHEV either a Honda Or possibly a Prius but I do agree that if you buy a new sports car its pretty dumb unless you are rich.
I do agree with most stuff he said, but with driving good down a hill you wont use fuel aswell on a petrol car granted you wont gain range, but the mein issue is the price of the electric car compared to a petrol car buying a petrol car is like 15-20 k electric is about 40-60 i can use petrol to fill my car for a lot of time until i reach the same price, and that doenst include the thought of needing a new battery at some point.

I know a guy who has a Tesla. He bought a spare charger. In my area we've really don't have any chargers except like at major hotels and like two in the city next to us. If he were to do any kind of driving outside of the city which basically puts him in the country. He would basically be trapped out there if he ran out of power. So he has the 120 volt adapter for emergencies and he could just plug it in at whatever outlet he's near.

I’ve owned a Model 3 for over 2 years now and I love it! A few things: - The display freezing like that is definitely not normal. I’d take it in for service! - Check out the latest ‘FSD Beta’ videos on UA-cam to see what the latest self driving software is actually capable of! What you’re using is basically a year old already! Also, if you want to understand what’s happening under the hood, get familiar with ‘Neural Networks’, and how ‘Deep Learning’ can be used to train them. - Fill your boxes with bags of water next time.. The car will likely stop because the radar will see it then. - I’m sure you already know, but charging the battery to 70 or 80% instead of 90% will do much more for battery health then charging it slower. - In the ‘Carbon Footprint’ calculations - people almost NEVER account for the carbon footprint of building gasoline stations, producing the gasoline, transporting the gasoline, building semis to transport the gasoline, etc. That should all be included too! - Very little of the US grid runs on coal these days. There is a lot of natural gas though. Congrats on the car! You’re going to love it!
@@lost8099 technically coal would have a pretty low carbon footprint if you just burnt the coalgas and threw the remaining coke on a pile but nobody would do that xD
Semi-interesting fact: your Model 3 and your Toyota Matrix were made in the same place. Fremont Assembly was a GM plant that became NUMMI when GM partnered with Toyota to share their California plant. The Matrix (and Pontiac Vibe) were assembled at NUMMI. When GM pulled out of the joint venture in 2009, Toyota decided to shut the plant down. In 2010, Tesla bought out NUMMI and refurbished it into the Tesla Fremont Factory, which today still produces all Model S/X vehicles and all Model 3/Y vehicles for the North American market.
A lot of people complain EV's don't actually help if the electricity is from a fossil fuel plant. But its important to understand that in terms of power per pound of carbon pumped into the atmosphere, Getting the power from a power plant is still way more efficient than gasoline car engine.

@Mikołaj K how is it not dangerous 😂. ALso the speed limit you see in changed from the actual one so that if someone still breaks the limit, nothing much happens. That's why people think it's not dangerous but actually is.
@@daphenomenalz4100 Going 150km/h in a 130 zone isn't dangerous. Doing 70 instead of 50 on secondary roads isn't dangerous either. You people are idiots.
@@ilpatongi Of course it's dangerous. But so is going 50 in a 50 or 70 in a 70. The biggest added danger is the difference in speed between you and traffic and the increased stopping distances. Slowing down is a quadratic function, so even small differences in speed make a large difference in the ability to stop.
About grid load (16:00), my Renault Zoe (fully electric) came with a "smart charge" app. Once I allowed Renault to take control, the app now figures out how long it needs to charge to provide the requested percentage at the requested time and then pauses charging during peak usage times (actual grid load) and charges during low load. For this I also get a small sum per charge kWh. It also recognizes that I'm home, so on a public charger it always charges full speed. I have full control through an app or in the car to set the percentage charge and time at any time, anywhere.

@@user-be9qk7vg5y If it's your bread and butter than tell me about how much energy is lost in the transmission of electricity and how much constant generation is required to keep the power grid up even when it's not in use. @@SlyStarlingyes I agree but I like EV anyways but no I'm not arguing. If electricity is *actully green.*
11:56 Actually, EVs do have brake pads, however the dynamo action of the motor combined with the natural deceleration is enough. AND, pressing the brake makes the motor put out a negative torque for extra stopping power.
The brake pads can in some cases last the car's lifetime, but with my tesla the brake pads just kinda disintegrated and fell apart lol. Probably because of sea salt.
Fun fact. An engineer who worked for me bought a Tesla to drive some 100 miles into work. He got on the freeway, held the wheel and let auto pilot drive him In close and napped. This is dangerous. Don’t do this. Butttttttttt. He did.
Doesn't it have a camera that watches to make sure your eyes are on the road? And if you're not looking at the road for too long it starts beeping at you and then drops out autopilot?
@The Lavian they don't drop out of autopilot, they slow down and eventually stop. Better than dropping out of autopilot if you are actually asleep or otherwise incapacitated.
Nah unless he plugs something into the batteries that steps up the voltage, the battery voltage is not high enough to run enough current through him to hurt.
13:30 modern fuel injected cars, be they manual or automatic, will shut off the fuel injectors when the throttle pedal is released given the rpms/wheelspeed are high enough to prevent stalling. this can be used in a situation like you're describing, where you're going downhill. If you leave the car say in 4th gear going downhill, the wheels will drive the engine, causing the RPMs to stay put when the throttle pedal is released. great video :)
@@j.e.honiball1327 i understand this take however it's really quickly overshadowed by the fact that even with regen braking, teslas have shorter range on a full charge than most internal combustion engine powered cars. example of this is i think a stock model 3 doing 50 drag races back to back to back, needing to recharge 3 times over the course of those 50 races and the fastest car in the drag race did it in a single tank of gas.
I would love to see an updated video on this, now that the power grid problems he predicted are taking place, price of electricity has skyrocketed, and alternatives like hydrogen fuel cells are becoming more common in certain areas. Would also love to see his thoughts on what they're trying in Brazil with synthetic fuels.
To avoid having to make a deliberate turn on the wheel to convince Autopilot that you're paying attention do the following: 1) Rest your elbow on the arm rest (either arm) 2) Rest your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel against the spoke The car makes enough adjustments to the steering (very few roads are perfectly straight and level) that the opposing force you exert on the spoke is enough for the torque sensor. You still need to pay attention! But you don't have to think about moving the steering wheel just the right amount to keep the car happy without switching off the auto-steer.
I feel like it also might have a system that visually monitors the driver, who, at least during the video, was looking away from the road periodically. (Which someone dozing off & on would also do.) I'm not sure on that, however, and I'm making no accusations against Mehdi. Somehow other people manage to be completely asleep (reclined, no less) while their car is speeding dangerously on the freeway. Both of these extremes tell us that autopilot is not nearly perfect yet. The technology needs time to be developed. Keep. Your. Eyes. On. The. Road.
I had around 6 minor, $6,000 worth of crashes that the obstacle avoidance could have saved me from. Some were dumb like bumping into the corner of the barn when I thought I could make the turn. One was from foot slipping off the brake and I slowly hit someone at a light as my flip flop wearing flippidy floppidy foot kept slipping off the break like in a bad dream, feet were wet in the flip flops. I show the cop.... told him I was on the way to buy new shoes too and were were just 1,000 feet from the store!
The cardboard boxes are hard to detect due to the fact that radars play a vital role in obstacle detection. The denser the object is (and bigger surface area) the easier it is for the radar to pick it up. Also, when either the vehicle or the obstacle is stationery it makes it even harder to detect as radars are calibrated to discriminate smaller stationary objects in order to avoid picking up too much "false" readings or noise. Doppler's effect is best utilised when multiple clusters of data read from different points of an object by radar have correlating fluctuations in Doppler's speed that it's been calibrated too. If your car has ultrasonic sensors - they are very short range and high response time so they are only used as proximity sensors. LIDARs in cars are usually long range and are used to reinforce radar's data reliability by data fusion. That means the beam and short range is narrow. It's also likely that they are just 2D LIDARs meaning that if they were angled at a certain angle the entire envelope could have missed the boxes. Lastly, cameras most likely use AI that were only trained to recognise lanes, living beings, traffic signs and traffic lights, they aren't used for your standard obstacle detection. Took me years to learn all that by practice :)
@@timberslut lots of variables play role here, but living beings (flesh) is much easier to pick up by 24 GHz or 77 GHz radars due to higher density and overall object thickness, then also movement plays a big role as radars pick up differences in VELOCITIES, so if an object is moving even slightly it makes a huge difference. Of course sensor angle positioning and redundancy sensor roles matter too..

Not really since he bought a Tesla yeah they require less service but what he said about Car Enthusiasts wasn't necessary because car enthusiasts love vehicles okay so they first buy a daily driver like a normal vehicle most likely my first car might be a Hyundai Elantra Hybrid then when the scrape up some money they buy their first sports car or such or maybe even a second normal vehicle, then they don't buy another car but then you get in you're 30s at a dead end job you have enough money so you splurge it on a nice fancy new sports car and that is the cycle of the car enthusiast usually they would not buy a new fancy car more likely a used car maybe 90s or 80s but most likely 2000s cars
so is buying a Tesla worth it I do not know since I will most likely never buy one I would most likely buy a Hybird or PHEV either a Honda Or possibly a Prius but I do agree that if you buy a new sports car its pretty dumb unless you are rich.

You know what, that might be for the best.
I’ve owned a Model 3 for over 2 years now and I love it! A few things:
- The display freezing like that is definitely not normal.

That's more than semi-interesting, that's extremely interesting. Or in this case... Car-Interesting. (get it... not a semi-trailer)
A lot of people complain EV's don't actually help if the electricity is from a fossil fuel plant. But its important to understand that in terms of power per pound of carbon pumped into the atmosphere, Getting the power from a power plant is still way more efficient than gasoline car engine.

Every car guy that works on cars: *first time?*

Fun fact. An engineer who worked for me bought a Tesla to drive some 100 miles into work. He got on the freeway, held the wheel and let auto pilot drive him In close and napped. This is dangerous. Don’t do this. Butttttttttt. He did.
@The Lavian You can automate this process easily
@@Red_Salmond you could just wrap your hand on the steering wheel and the bumps of the road mey just be enough.
People have crashed and died doing this, which is clearly outlined when you enable the feature. Money can’t buy brains
*Finally he bought electric car*
_CANT WAIT TO SEE HIM GETTING SHOCKED LOL_
Yesssssss I was waiting for a comment like this!

They won't use any fuel, but you can't generate any "fuel" like you can in an electric vehicle
What a legend
Now Medhi can shock himself with the power of 10 hours of 240 volts in one go, instead of the puny 120 volts coming out of his wall.
To avoid having to make a deliberate turn on the wheel to convince Autopilot that you're paying attention do the following:
1) Rest your elbow on the arm rest (either arm)
2) Rest your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel against the spoke
The car makes enough adjustments to the steering (very few roads are perfectly straight and level) that the opposing force you exert on the spoke is enough for the torque sensor.
Keep. Your. Eyes. On. The. Road.

One was from foot slipping off the brake and I slowly hit someone at a light as my flip flop wearing flippidy floppidy foot kept slipping off the break like in a bad dream, feet were wet in the flip flops. 0:49: "Now I have a super powerful brushless motor and a huge battery pack!" Amazing, but what are you going to do with it?
he will build an electric car diy
Don't underestimate him.😂
The cardboard boxes are hard to detect due to the fact that radars play a vital role in obstacle detection.
So he can still easily run over a small child or a dog huh?
@@timberslut lots of variables play role here, but living beings (flesh) is much easier to pick up by 24 GHz or 77 GHz radars due to higher density and overall object thickness, then also movement plays a big role as radars pick up differences in VELOCITIES, so if an object is moving even slightly it makes a huge difference.
Of course sensor angle positioning and redundancy sensor roles matter too..
