Madimack i60 Time Lapse Pool Cleaner - NEW Unit! Raw Footage TEST 1

  • NEW i60 just delivered by Madimack with some updated firmware.
    They took my original i60 unit to analyse the data, which is extensively logged inside including motor torque and gryroscope data. Initial suspicion without having the data to analyse is that it was a gyroscope quirk of some sort. Madimack are insistent that the lack of wall climbing is not due to slippage or lack of impellor force, it's deliberately backing off and not climbing for some reason.
    This new footage is a first test with updated production firmware until they can analyse the data from my old unit and figure out what's happening.
    I accidently did a 2 hour test instead of 1 hour, so it got dark.

    I've tried a number of these robotic type cleaners and they all suffer the same fate, corded or cordless makes no difference, they all tend to clean one side of the pool better than the other. I've started to suspect the problem is algae growth is different on the Northern versus Southern vertical sides of the pool and the algorithms do not cope with or are not designed to cope with a variable friction surface. This is reinforced by my finding that if I do a manual scrub of the walls the cleaning pattern seems to even out for a few days / weeks before returned to the same asymmetrical patterns.

  • @Petertronic
    @Petertronic 3 місяці тому +4

    It doesn't seem much better. I can't see anything in its pattern that looks like it has figured out anything about the pool size and shape.

    You know what the problem is, don't you? They forgot to set the Australia/NZ flag at the factory so it sensed it was climbing down instead of up and aborted. The sensor data has to be inverter for down-under types.

    I wonder if they actually test their units themselves. Or, the design itself is missing crucial sensory inputs to do a proper job, otherwise the control software is near random non-functional mess.

      They design and test it themselves. They have been working on the design for many years, but it's a complicated problem. The unit logs all mapping, sensing and motor data, hence why they wanted my unit back so they can extract it.

      @@EEVblog Fair enough, as long as they are selling it with the notice that you are receiving a beta buggy product. It sounds as if they might need online downloading of those deep logs in an effort to improve their tech. Since I haven't analyzed their tech, I cannot not do a deep failure analysis, but I do specialize in engineering consultation for such real-life hardware devices in the past and if your results does not turn out to be a clear software bug, then I would have to say they might have skipped out on proper sensor hardware such as proper sonar or laser range finding (for clear underwater such as in swimming pools, this can be done) which could do realtime 3D mapping plus a planned precision movement and orientation at the pool's bottom. (IE: it should be impossible for the cleaner to loose driving tracking position at the bottom of the pool to within a few centimeters) Processing power for such a task today can be achieved off of a GPU based SBC like the ones NVidia has available, and you should be able to download a video playback log of those sensor inputs with displayed road mapping.

      Just also gotta say that I grew up around pools all the time. Grandparents had a nice one that I learned to swim in about 1970, and swum in it for a good 30 years after, on and off. They had many pool 'sweepers' over the years, as we called them.Nothing like the roomba type that you got. The best one had 6 or 8 foot [meter to a meter and a half!] long tentacles that would slowly flail around the bottom, I guess sweeping? and shooting jets of water out the ends. No computorb, no memory, no under-water-electronics, etc. Anyway,. there was never any issue if we fucked with it while it was running. Whatever, the thing will sweep again today and again tomorrow. We had fun and the pool stayed clean. You definitely got a cool gadget, but it might fit in the JBYCDMYS category. [just because you can, doesn't mean you should]. Of course, if anyone on the planet should have a robotic pool sweeper, it is you. Looking forward to more pool bottom mapping! How well will it perform at Marco Polo??@@EEVblog

    you would think that they could have it auto calibrate to the geometery of the pool, it's a simple arse shape,
    I wonder how it would handle a Kidney shaped pool lol
    it looks like it's trying to cover the base with angles & not trueing itself to 90 onto the wall after a angled approach - odd

    I’ve just purchased the i80 and it is doing exactly the same as your old unit. It climbs the walls once or twice then gives up. I am extremely disappointed with it considering what I paid for it. Have been in touch with Madimack and waiting for a response. Luckily the place I purchased it from has a 30 day money back guarantee. Will most likely send it back in a week or so for a refund. Hate being quality control for a company that ships out products inadequately tested.
