Who would have thought that the goof behind the drums (12:14)would one day have one of the coolest horror memorabilia collections, and be such a presence in the horror fandom circuit? You done good 🤜🤛
I wasn’t born until 89 and have never been to California but I somehow long for those days you spoke about. Thank you for taking the time to take us on this trip down memory lane!
Hey there. Love this vid. I was born March 1975. I’m a huge Hard Rock/Heavy Metal, Jazz & blues music fan. I have an AS degree in Radio-TV Production & a BS degree in Music Production/Sound Engineering & Music Business. I did a cross country trip to help move a friend back from San Diego to New York…so my brother and I spent two nights in LA…we stayed at The West Hotel-Hollywood Edition on Sunset. Went to Amoeba Music….ate at The Rainbow Bar & Grill. Our hotel room was as great as yours. We had the HBO LA Office in front of the hotel. I have to LA two more times. I still would love to live in LA/San Diego.
Totally love the 80's and the Sunset Strip era. I wish I were around then to really soak it in and be a part of it all at it's peak. But I instead just enjoy the music every single day which truly helps me get through my day. Scorpions concert is this month for me in Detroit, so that'll be awesome. Thank you for sharing your insight on your experiences of that era, I really enjoyed it. Congratulations on your anniversary. I hope it was wonderful, and that you two have many many more.
That was a really good one. I remember Memorial Day weekend 1996 I was 17 a senior in high school. Me & my friends cruised up to Hollywood walked the strip trying to get into some of those clubs & a few of the adult ones too lol.
I saw Steel Panther 2004, 2005 at the House of Blues restaurant in Las Vegas, when they were called, The Atomic Punks. People were watching them as they were eating at their tables but no one was standing in front of the stage. So when we were done we went to stand in front of the stage, technically playing for 2 people. Lol, now look at them.
Thanks for taking us back with you, although I gotta say that it's pretty sad seeing it how it is today. My wife and I were in The Whiskey back in '87 (hopefully I'm remembering it correctly). We were both 26, 25yrs old and loving Sunset Strip. We ended up seeing the band Kix, they put on a great show. I also remember while we standing there a guy introduced himself to us, he said that he was the manager Noel Monk for Van Halen. Whether he was or not, I'm not sure but he was interested in my opinion on comparing Sammy and Dave. Again, great video and even though it'll never be the same, thank you for your video. 👍
Thanks for this! I came out to So California from NC in 1989 and my then roomates used to go to Hollywood(the strip) every weekend. They were trying to "get famous" all the time. I jist wanted to see what it was all about mostly. It was fun while it lasted. Everything you said about the flyers and the hair and the booze was so true :) I was in my 20's when I was there so could get into a lot of those places but didn't want to lol. Anyway, I appreciated your recollections of the strip and the surrounds and just know some of us are still out here and we feel the same about the tearing down of music history x
Hello Sean remember visiting Los Angeles April 1976 I was 10 years old it went by so quick wanted to see more! Blessings and happy thoughts Pretoria South Africa 😇🙏🎊🎉🌍👀🙌😀
Wow so cool Sean that you got to stand where Plant was!! Great video! So cool seeing all the clubs that spawned so many bands! Sorry the music thing did not work out, but the horror thing sure has!!! 🎃Keep the content coming! By the way your room’s view is tremendous!! 🙏🏽❤️🔥😎☠️🔥
Dig the Slash & Duff story, they're a couple of my heroes. You're soo lucky to have lived in that time. I was born in 90, so I unfortunately missed all the good stuff..
This really hit home for me. I was in a band in the 90's in the DFW area. We got to open for bands like the Toadies and the Nixons (and even got to "open" for Bush once when they played last on an all-day bill where were played first, LOL) at cool venues in Fort Worth like Mad Hatters (where the video for Mister Love by the Toadies was filmed), The HOP, Dogstar Cafe, and The Galaxy Club in Dallas. Hell, we even played the same club where Pantera got their start, an awesome little place called Joes Garage in Fort Worth (including being asked to come play their last night open). The tour of your old haunts really reminds me of those days ... Thanks for the video!!!
Bad Brains and Descendents at Whiskey! Wow I bet that was awesome. I’ve never been but I have a lot of backstage passes from Tim the artist, he was roommates with Chris Holmes from wasp. He had some crazy stories
Excellent stories Sean. Was parked just across the street from Whisky taking pics of The Viper Room when visiting LA from England last Tuesday night. Had to ditch my sightseeing plans to go to a gig at The Hollywood Bowl for my girlfriend. Don’t ask who the act was 😂
This was very cool video 📷📷 thanks for taking all us viewers around an showing the cool places an sharing awesome l stories , your wife is beautiful , thank you Sean for sharing much appreciated 👍👍
Sean, this video was awesome. Different from what you usually do, but I loved every minute of it! So much great history! Thank you for sharing this with us. That hotel you guys stayed at was gorgeous, and also that tall building across the street from where you stayed was a filming location in the tv show Lucifer. It was Lucifer's night club "LUX" and the top floor was his penthouse.
I miss Tower Records used to go all the time to the one in Chicago. Great tour of the strip , hopefully I’ll get to see it sometime, I’ve always been stuck in the Midwest. You so lucky to have meet Peter Criss , I love kiss so much !!!!!
I absolutely loved this Sean. You and Nay are a great team. Love this history of the sunset strip. I remember seeing pictures of it back in the day, I have always lived in Northern California, and it just looked like a happening place to be. You’re visual storytelling and memories really brought me there. Sad to see it so desolate now but I am glad you had those experiences. Best to you both.
That thumbnail-I’ve been watching your content for many years and somehow never noticed you had a tiny arm growing out of your chest! Great video Sean. I’ve seen a million [famous band] did [famous thing] in [famous location] Sunset Strip videos, but yours was full of things that happened to you personally, really setting it apart. So glad you did this. And happy anniversary!
In 1997 I was 19 and I lived with some of my best friends. They were in a local band in my town in Jacksonville Florida. Two of the members had just moved there about a year before from California. One was in a band in LA called Maliki Sunday (spelling?) and the other was a cop in LA and a roadie for them. He became a guitar player. We went out to California for 2 weeks and being a big music fan, especially of bands from the 80’s and early 90’s, I was stoked. We we to all the spots, Whisky, Troubadour, Rainbow Room, and The Viper Room. I was a big fan of River Phoenix too, so I was overwhelmed with excitement
Great video Sean, I was out there a few months ago and went to The Rainbow room and walked up and down the strip. I would have loved to have been there in its heyday.
Happy Anniversary to you and your beautiful wife, partner in vlogging! Thanks for taking us around all the Sunset hang-outs & Troubador during the day and I also had no idea the entrance to The Viper Room was on the side. Love the tour of The Continental/Andaz Hotel. I've got a great photo of a Rockford's File episode where they used the pool in a scene. Also, thanks for the inside view of Barone's with my other fave vloggers. Better Things FX series with Pamela Adlon filmed here recently, using it as the restaurant where her daughter, Max, works/hosts in a few scenes. Love all the history and memories you shared with us. Thank you!
What an absolutely *amazing* wee video! 😺👍🏻 My husband and I were just saying… we have seen lots of videos on the Sunset Strip/Rock Scene in its hey day but it’s all your *fun* wee stories/experiences that really makes your videos stand out from the rest! Amazing tour! We took a bus load of Maiden fans there on the last tour after playing LA. Some special history. Think I was more happy to visit the parking lot of 9000 sunset opposite the Rainbow. Filming location of Columbo; Murder by the Book. A classic.
62 year old LA boy living in the Ozarks now. Thank you so much for the trip down memory lane. I heard your band Malfunction on the Monster Mosh compilation album., OMG...you guys destroyed it. Pretty sad to see some of those historic places being leveled. The Viper Room really bums me out. So many great memories, especially from the late 70s to mid 80s.
Absolutely great video enjoyed every bit of it and the cool stories you have made it even better.........really wasn't expecting the epic ending....... great work Sean and wife ☺️👍
