Hitchin is a good station to go to, you could easily spend a couple of hours there on a good day when you get a decent amount of freight thrown into the mix x
Enjoyed your film again Jarred. Can't believe though you would rather go out than stay at home and watch England vs Columbia. Delays and all aside, the station at Hitchin is great. nice and wide as well as on a straight section. Thumbs up from me as always mate
Thanks very much mate I'm glad you enjoyed watching this, I came home in time to watch the extra time and penalty shoot outs. Safe to say my heart was racing
Thameslink and Great Northern has improved, cancellations have pretty much stopped, there are delays of up to 10 minutes but it definitely has improved from what it was
If your using RealTimeTrains, I know that the Kings Lynn to London services haven't been updated to the revised timetable. So they stop at places like Royston, Letchworth and Hitchin.
The GoVia timetable cock-up completely messed up my Spring Bank Holiday Monday! I was trying to get to Hitchin to be picked up by a friend who was taking me to the Wrest Park at War event in Silsoe, but the train I was supposed to be on (the 09:11 to Peterborough) was cancelled after about 15 minutes of waiting and there were no other Peterborough trains showing up on the board! I did no more than complained to the guys at Farringdon station where I was waiting. To be fair they were pretty good and gave me some alternative options (take the next train to St. Pancras and then take a Great Northern train from there to Hitchin), but I would have still been about 20 minutes late, which wasn't fair on my mate picking me up from Hitchin. So I decided to message him and say I wasn't going to make it, ask the guy in the ticket office for a refund and go home! At least the tube got me back home pretty quickly! Another route I suppose I could have taken was to get an LNER HST to Stevenage and change for the Thameslink train there, but looking at what's going in this video, it looks like the timetable crisis is kind of affecting them too! So, your video is absolutely spot on!
It's just a complete farce, and going by what your experience was you would've spent more time travelling than you would've needed to. Plus you would've had the added pressure of getting off different trains to potentially miss the one you were aiming for if there was slight hold up at the following station. You only need a 30 second delay somewhere to completely knacker any plans you may of had. It's just a complete mess that they have gotten themselves into
Great video as always. Luckily I don't have to use trains to get to and from work but I do feel so sorry for the customers that have to depend on these sevices. Why the train companies had to mess around with the time tables I don't know. If it needed tweeking then fine, but to overhaul it completely without a test run was maddness. As the old saying goes "If it isn't broken, don't fix it."
Thanks very much for saying so, I just find it astonishing that no real planning went into getting this timetable implemented. They just throw it together and expected it to run flawlessly. Now the full extent of the issues has been made public it's only a matter of time before the company folds in on itself
Great rant! As someone who has used Thameslink to commute to London and back during weekends or study breaks at Uni, I’m bloody glad it’s the summer and that I no longer have to use the service to commute on a regular basis for some time. However, I feel terribly sorry for the passengers and commuters who use it Monday to Friday for their whole lives just to make it to work on time. They do not deserve to be delayed for hours waiting in the scorching heat for a train to actually turn up and then to find out that they are either late for work or never make it to work. It’s all thanks to Govia for their disorganised approach to revolutionising commuter railway travel in and around London. They might as well be stripped off of their franchise if they can’t sort out this mess in the next week or so. If you’re gonna revolutionise such a major industry at least have a plan beforehand instead of leaving all the problems to be solved as soon as the new timetable has been implemented. Poor preparation prevents perfect performance!
I just find it completely astonishing that Govia Thameslink Railway are happy with the services that they are providing on all 3 of their networks, you had the various strikes by Southern because of the role of the guards, then you have this complete mess of the timetable which as you quite rightly say should of been planned well in advance to avoid these costly errors
Very nice video and I get what you mean. They had really really mucked up the whole system and like you say, I had seen all of the tweets that they were getting. You could really really tell how harsh people were being towards them even though they weren’t the ones that were mainly involved. I think network rail should have also been accountable for all of this. The main thing is that all of these problems have been sorted and it is quite a reliable service now.
Been having similar issues up north with Arriva running the Northern franchise, not to the extent of Thameslink but either way for all affected it is ridiculous, Arriva are even losing out on companies for their rail replacements cos they haven't been paying them, it's just a massive mess
I absolutely agree with everything you said in your video. To put it another way, I bet Mussolini ran the Italian network better in World War 2. Keep the excellent videos coming as I always look forward to watching them especially if a class 68 roars past, kind regards, Gary.
It just amazes me how a train firm the size of GTR can mess up something like this so badly. They have had ages to try and get something sorted. And it takes the threat of the franchise getting revoked for them actually pull their finger out
hi I do agree with u about great northern and thamelink it would be good to see another company take over I was think LNER might I hope and can i ask when ur going to harrogate and a another great vid
I cant see the LNER operating the local commuter services but if things continue to get any worse then something needs to be done to sort out this whole ordeal, as it currently stands I shan't be going to Harrogate any time soon. I am currently filming my GWML series
It's not the timetable that is making thameslink run late or cancelled its the fact that with the new thameslink routes they didn't train up the drivers to drive them so they are training them so people should stop saying thameslink are crap because they are not as I've never had a problem with them so give them a break cause there are far worse companies out on the rail
If that's the case then Thameslink are still to blame. If they knew that they were going to introduce these new routes then they would've had sufficient time to train to various drivers on the new routes be it on a simulator or physical route learning
I would probably say do a video at Sunderland but all you will see is loads of Tyne and Wear metros a couple of northern trains and a grand central if your lucky. So I wouldn’t do a train video here
Hi Can I ask what you use to film as I did try and film at Peterborough on an iPhone and the battery died an 1hour in and was wondering what you film with. Also another great video
I’m not sure renationalisation would actually do much to prevent this, especially when you see what actually went on (as revealed by the Transport committee) with Network Rail changing a lot of their original timetable and were delayed in handing it over to the TOCs, giving much less time to plan for what was actually going to run, and the TOCs also asked for the Department for Transport to delay the timetable in the beginning of the year yet Failing Grayling pushed on with it and now we have the current mess. On a side note LNER aren’t brilliant with the amount of failed trains they’ve had since taking over the franchise
Whilst I don't think renationalisation would be the case I feel that something needs to be done because things are just getting way out of hand now, and the TOC's haven't got any real answers for the thousands of commuters that are being affected by this on a daily basis, when you say LNER have had a large amount of 'failed' trains what do you mean by that? The trains themselves have developed faults or that they are being cancelled on a regular basis?
Tornado922 From What I’ve seen they’ve had many train faults occurring over the last few weeks (more than I saw under VTEC) and they tended to be more serious requiring the train to be rescued rather than fixed on site

they have had well over 2 months of this new timetable and nothing has improved, if anything they are getting more and more worse with each passing day
By the way if anyone should the head or leader of network rail or any rail companies going to Stevenage London that sort of malarky. It should be you tornado.
This video was good. Thanks for your political rant towards Thameslink and the new timetable. They should sort it or abort it. How are people going to get to London, Peterborough, Cambridge, Stevenage, Brighton, Horsham and Gatwick. We should give Thameslink another chance. if they don't sort it by July 15th then THAMESLINK WILL BURN IN HELL!!!! I AM INFURIATED WITH THIS RIDICULOUS THAMESLINK TRASH!!!!!
I have no real clue about what the issues are which have lead to the terrible service on offer today from Thameslink/Great Northern, but whatever the cause these providers need to have their contracts cancelled immediately. It would be better if there was no service at all rather than such random, hit or miss service. Creating a dependence upon public transportation services, as Great Britain has done (along with many other countries), requires that those who choose to attempt to provide the services can, indeed, perform and that those who allow such attempts be held 100% accountable. Unfortunately, most often they never are and I'm very sure that such will be the case here. Here in the western United States (I live in California) we have chosen, in very large measure, not to rely on public ground transportation because those who would attempt to provide and/or manage the services cannot and will not EVER live up to the responsibilities they assume. Airline service was the exception and every day it gets worse and worse as government increases (or decreases) the level of its "participation". As a result, it too, will fail. The truth of the matter is that whenever government meddles in what should be a competitive private enterprise the result is always the same: the public pays the price. Responsible regulation is a proper governmental role. Involving government in the provision of the service, is not, because it almost always reduces competition and it is competition which leads to first class service.
It's just been a complete mess lately on the British Rail Network. We've had so many problems it starts to get beyond a joke. People are arriving late into work and missing connecting trains to other parts of the country because of the ineptitude of the railway companies themselves. They then lay on road transportation but that's even worse especially during the rush hour periods when there's far more traffic on the roads. In the States is appears as if your rail network runs without any major problems, although we wouldn't hear about it over here.
The passenger rail systems here, such as they are and excluding the New England/New York/Washington DC corridor are pretty much a joke. The services run on privately owned rails and are always secondary to freight. Delays are the rule of the day. The US railroads gladly gave up passenger service many years ago in favor of freight which was simply more profitable. And, because of the long distances involved, air travel was always much quicker. In California, we've no embarked on building a super high speed rail system (ala the Japanese Shinkansen) that's supposed to run between Southern California and the SFO BAY Area. It's an ungodly expensive political boondoggle which, if ever completed, will cost far more to use than air travel and, if it makes any stops in between LA and SF will be so slow as to be useless.. Its doomed and will waste billions upon billions of taxpayer dollars for nothing. Don't get me wrong. I love railroads. But I despise governmental involvement in their operation. It never works well. I hope privatization of the British railroads works. I rode your trains when they were run by British Rail. It's an experience I hope never to have to repeat. And, with all it problems it appears to me that what you have now is far superior to that. Thanks for your wonderful, informative, humorous and on point videos!! Keep them coming as often as you can!!
Don’t apologise to us saying lowering the tone of the video. I rather enjoyed it reason being because it’s all the truth. How on earth am I meant to get to college 3x a week?! Absolutely disgraceful Thameslink and Great Northern. It’s like one step forward and two steps back, they’re not getting anywhere. The staff is very rude and doesn’t take any criticism when the truth hurts. They need to sort it out, it’s been happening for ages now.
The service is awful. I once had to wait a whole hour at my local station for a train and on Saturdays Welwyn North has hardly any Saturday service except for one or two trains
It just gets beyond a joke when commuters are faced with lengthy delays which then means that they are late to get to work or even to catch a connecting service somewhere else on the network
Current Situation - Is that they aren't getting any better - When I went to North wales last week they seemed worse than Govia I have no idea how that's possible but the solution ? Go back to the pre 20th may timetable and Let Govia be stripped of their franchise asap
Govia Thameslink Railway are really making a mess of the whole situation. They had so many chances to get it right for their entire network but they keep falling at every hurdle
Great video thameslink and great northen should just getting in someone and then they will change for people who can travel. FCC did okay but they had some trouble but nothing like this at all some other train companys arent like this southern havent had no trouble dont think plus they are going to lose the franchises to the goverment like what happened to VTEC into LNER so
It just gets beyond stupid when a timetable causes so many issues for the railway and it's passengers and they haven't really got an answer for any of it
To add to the costumers brunt, the new seats on the 700 are uncomfortable and when I rode on a class 700 to St. Alban's at up to 100mph (never reaching 100 [as I was using a speed GPS then] because of the next point I'll say!!), Are too damn jerky and bumpy as I could feel my self dancing into a window and bumping into the wall!! That is pathetic and even could cause a disaster because the train could derail!! Not trying to say desiro trains are shit, they are very good when done right like the 350s, Smooth and peaceful at 100mph (as I rode one at that speed between Watford Junction to Harrow & Wealdstone), class 444/450s which feels like a meditation room with relaxing AC in a train, the wheel sounds are at minimum level which is extremely impressive. Not to mention that they look very cute with the front Panda eye windows (except for the Abellio greater Anglia 360s). However Desiros are second place but not far from the best. The best ones are the BREL trains because they looked like they where designed by the Gods, the traction motors are legendary, especially the class 319s, 321s, 442s. And I got to tell you riding a 321 from Shenfield to Stratford at around 90mph was reminscent of a boy flying with a snowman!! (P.S look at how I have Changed the tone)
Well atleast from when this was filmed things have greatly improved for the reliability of the trains running on the network. Just is a shame that the 700's are so uncomfortable to ride on. I haven't been on one as of yet for a decent length journey but from what everyone says they are very hard. I do like how you changed the tone there
@@Tornado922 glad I could help. This comment even leads onto the question I put into comment section on *got any questions* (I just hope trains go back to being great. In fact, it seems to be happening gradually I.e Hull Trains as in terms of livery, the new class 800s look beautiful and modern because it has the endangered barbie livery and a blue bodyshell which I like. Moreover I love the blue interior[coming from a guy whose favourite colour is blue] and the modern line seating pattern. From the way it looks, I'm in ♥ with Hull Trains. I just hope that Hitachi have improved the performance of trains back to class 395 standards and the seat is comfortable.)
Keiran stop calling people idiots...EWS Trains Thameslink haven't lost the franchise yet but they have been threatened to have it revoked if things don't improve
I've been hearing on he news that Northern have been buggering about with their timetable, cancelling no end of services. It's just getting beyond a joke
Poor management and pure disregard for customers, Ahh! Real life on film. Besides that nonsense, what beautiful film. She's like a forgotten Station, t'was remembered and forgotten about. Woman on the Mic needs to quit it, she's way off point! Thameslink Livery is starting to grow on me, I thank your camera ;}. Habit off the Thru-traffic was just banging, scared the temptations out of my cat! 800201 Mystery Bullet F#@k-a-Duck! Another rare Drag, of sorts. Oh, s#!t! I think maybe you're in an alternate dimension portal that leads to the Station, which transfers you to the terminal that takes you to the port town of Confusion. Where we find The heads of the Rails, in The Pub of whatlessness! Great film Bruv, pure professional even when others are not! B.P.
Thanks ever so much mate it was a just a complete comedy of errors really. The way that everything is just falling apart on the network it actually feels like we are just going back in time instead of looking to the future. The levels of customer service whilst I was here was just abysmal quite frankly. The highlight for me has to be the 800 running from York to London
announcer sounds cheesed off i think goverment taking control of train companies is the wrong route to take they cant sort themselves out never mind trains

Tornado922 6k :D
Cmon mate people might just accidentally jump on to the track not knowing the massive thing was coming for them...
There's no way that trains terminate at Baldock
Well it did
Thameslink said things should be sorted out by july 15th.why do you think they should give up now Tornado.
they have had well over 2 months of this new timetable and nothing has improved, if anything they are getting more and more worse with each passing day
I do like the 700s
Maybe all the drivers are confused
With how the company operates that really wouldn't surprise me
could you imagine themslink operating in japan lol.
KING either that or Southern
That would just be a comedy of errors haha
spoiled rotten now :) fantastic video
I try and get as many as I can done for everyone ;)
By the way if anyone should the head or leader of network rail or any rail companies going to Stevenage London that sort of malarky. It should be you tornado.
I would like to think I could do a better job at it then they are currently doing
I AM INFURIATED WITH THIS RIDICULOUS THAMESLINK TRASH!!!!!
thameslink is becoming a joke
Ur actually sad
who
Uk emergency service Responding me and yes I'm absolutely disgusted and by the way thanks for subscribing to me.
no problem i think you should do rant videos
If this was your local station what would you do
What do you mean?
I mean what would you do about it if it was your local station
I agree so much. They have just messed it up
It's just a complete mess, they really need to sort their game out
When a 91 passed was it supposed to be that loud
91's are usually the loudest electric locomotive anyway
Why is virgin trains now London north eastern rail?
southern trains. 377 VTEC lost their franchise to London Northeastern Railway
Keiran Clarke thanks
No problem fella.
Why do you keep using the word "Scrapped"
Because it's a useful word in this scenario
Keiran Clarke why do you make multiple comments unnecessarily?
@@gdcraig4wr843 that is bang out of order mate
It just astounds me that they think the current service they are providing is satisfactory.
Tornado922 agreed
The service is awful. I once had to wait a whole hour at my local station for a train and on Saturdays Welwyn North has hardly any Saturday service except for one or two trains
It just gets beyond a joke when commuters are faced with lengthy delays which then means that they are late to get to work or even to catch a connecting service somewhere else on the network
2:57 Probably someone without self-awareness.
Wouldn't be at all surprised
i swear the class 365 sound like over powered formula one car and the class 323 sound like a dying formula one car
Yeah I have to agree with you, I have been thinking the same thing every time I have been near one
This comment even leads onto the question I put into comment section on *got any questions*
(I just hope trains go back to being great.
Theamslink and great northern are always a mess. Make govia loose theamslink at great northern
At the rate they are currently going they will lose the franchise
So I think labour should look after the railway from there leader Jeremy Corbyn
THIS IS NOT A FUNNY TAKE WHAT EVER GRIN YOU HAVE OFF OF YOU'RE FACE THIS IS SERIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Corbyn is a socialist
Thameslink have lost the franchise
Keiran stop calling people idiots...EWS Trains Thameslink haven't lost the franchise yet but they have been threatened to have it revoked if things don't improve
We have similar problems with Northern. Because were 200 miles from London though it doesn't make political headlines.
It's a shame, when one if not the best System in the world is in distress. Where's Miss Thatcher?
Yourself I ment
announcer sounds cheesed off i think goverment taking control of train companies is the wrong route to take they cant sort themselves out never mind trains
Little Grey Fergie YOU THINK SHE IS PISSED OFF. SHE DOESN'T GIVE A CRAP I AM A LOT MORE PISSED OFF THAN SHE IS ABOUT THIS STUPID SITUATION!!!!!!!!!!!!! BY THE WAY I ALSO AGREE WITH YOU. THAMESLINK IS IN THE GUTTER!!!!!!!!!
Keiran Clarke how old are you? (Just asking)
TheGamer I am 16
Keiran Clarke maturity wise, about 8
Thameslink are 500 times worse than London Midland.
Indeed they are
My opinion is labour are a better party then the conservatives so labour are a better government the the conservative government they came into power back in 1997 when Tony Blair was the leader and prime minister of the UK
Which ever government is in power at the time wouldn't make any difference to the running of these services. It would still be s shambles
Sorry I have political issues
First
Shut up no one cares
