amazing work freddy, great to see your videos. More than 10 years ago now when i was a teenager you were kind enough to give me advice on finishing in response to a message i sent to you on the mylespaul forum, it helped me loads, never forget it. Thanks again man
At last a sensible headstock repair. I'm so pleased to see that you didn't route out and fit splines. Guys don't seem to realise that with all the end grain on the splines and pockets that they usually end up with a weaker repair. I've repaired many headstocks the way that you did and I've never had one fail as modern glues are stronger than the wood anyway.
Hi Freddy, great to watch another of your really helpful and informative videos again. Hope you & the family are ok after the nihtmare 2 years of Covid. Looking forward the more videos in the future.
Freddy, what is the advantage of using hide glue for this kind of fix over urea glue? BTW, I mention you in my first video of my GGBO build entry. And thanks for the LPH-80 recommendation, it's a game changer for my finishing quality.
Hey thanks John! Normally I would use UF glue for a repair like this...but the plain fact is that I was out of fresh glue. It only has a shelf life of one year and I didn't want to wait for it to be shipped. Hide glue is perfectly fine in this instant as the joint closed up and meshed very tightly.
Good to see you and pops are still rockin' ! That repair looks 100 percent but do you think it will develop a line over that crack in the future? It seems when you use any filler, that always happens, but since you used no filler maybe it wont happen. What do you think?
Freddy, if you're interested, I have a 76 ES355 I'd like for you to paint. Believe it or not, I haven't been able to find anyone here in the states reputable enough to do it. Thanks!
Hey Freddy - I hope never to buy a guitar with a neck repair you did - you wouldnt know :) Great work. My Hentor is still working hard and still the best guitar I have ever owned!
I'm curious about Hide Glue I don't know anything about it and have never used it. Is there a specific reason you'd choose it over just regular wood glue? I have repaired three broken Gibson/Epiphone headstocks with titebond and haven't had a failure yet. Again, not saying anything derogatory, just curious about it.
Hi Freddy, this is a bit of a odd question but since you are in Canada u may relate to this... im in MN and it is 26-30% humidity in my basement and for the first time i noticed all my guitars got a fwd bow... i use 11-50 strings btw.. should i detune them all during the winter or bettter to attempt to raise the % by installing a humidifier in the room...? thx in advance!
@@FreddysFrets I bought nitro clear from them, but I don't know about their mixed colour selection. I think it's one of those stores you have to go inside and check out.

Missed you Freddy! You are the best builder on UA-cam by far!!
Excellent work! Looks amazing

I agree 100% about the splines. Cheers!
That was a repair ripe for the approach. And a FIRST RATE job to boot. Well done.!
I’ve been ordering from Oxford since I heard of them earlier this year, Don and his team are amazing and it’s great product!
Always enjoy your videos! Even if I don't take away something new, I still just enjoy how informative they are!

What are you up to now? Would love to see more content!
Hi Fredy!
I want to wish health to your father, you and your family. Take care of your dad! Parents are given to us only once.

Thanks! Like UF glue, hide glue dries crystalline hard....no thermo-plastic creep. So yes, it will keep future witness lines to a minimum.
Hi Freddy. Good to see another video. Is that a batch of Hentors I see hanging in the background?
Hi Dave! Yes sir...new batch of Hentors ready to be assembled, set-up and shipped out.
I love FreddysFrets videos!
So great 😁

Great work.
My Hentor is still working hard and still the best guitar I have ever owned!
Awesome....cheers!
What causes this? Is it because of the angel of the head?
Yes. Very common issue on Gibson guitars.

Zero thermo-plastic creep. Same goes for UF glue which I would also use on a repair like this. It keeps the witness lines down to a minimum.

Controlling the humidity is the way to go. In climates like ours you absolutely need some kind of humidification during the winter.
@@FreddysFrets thanks again for the advice. Got all the guitars onto a climate controled closet and they are all back to normal again!
10/10
What headstock break?! Haha
I wish I had a good relation like this with my dad.. Building Guitars.. 😆😆😲😲
dude what the hell is that white thing?
Can you get a burst in a tin ? Mmmmm lol.
Nice job! Have you tried Goudy?
I have heard of them, but from what I can see they don't have colours like this.
