Do Kiwi-Fruits Grow In Ireland? And How To Cover A Polytunnel..
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 жов 2024
- Polytunnels are vital for growing many crops in this country - tomatoes and grapes, melons and aubergines. They also make it possible to extend the season for all the crops that do grow outside - potatoes and peas and lettuces, for instance. So, many of us would be lost (and hungry) without our tunnel. My parents make the most of theirs every year, so it was satisfying to be able to help them maintain it.
Thanks Mum and Dad (Marion and Jack) for hosting us so well as always. Thanks too, to Mike and Rosie and Andy for making it into a proper meitheal. And Michael Ryan too, for helping us out with all the tools we forget to bring with us..
(Mike dug the ditch all the way around practically on his own. We hadn't thought to film any of the project at that time, so all that work is unrecorded. But, as ever, we are much indebted to Mike.)
Ok, here are some important website links. Please check them out..

I agree completely.
The ends of the hot house are always a challenge, well done.
Very nice to meet your family Tim. Good people...
WOW- and what a Lovely Family!!!!!!!!!!You guys really know how to "Get it done"!
Really enjoyed seeing the family and how easy that seemed. Family is wonderful.
A lot of Team work went into this wonderful project and it's quite lovely 😊 thank you for sharing your piece of heaven God bless you all 👍👏😍🙏🌺
A wonderful family video. Thanks for bringing us along!!!
What a nice bunch of tomatoes. Enjoy!!!
Everything you both do you do so well. Very enjoyable to watch. Cheers from Adelaide, South Australia. ☺️🌿
Fun family doings.
Thank you
Such a sweet family
Those are beautiful kiwis
What a lovely family! Working together is a great example for us all. The only thing I missed were the younger generations that should be running around whilst playing!
Oh, don't worry, there are plenty of those in the family, just not amongst this lot at this time.
I had always wondered how to cover a poly tunnel.
I just LOOOOOOOVVVVVVEEE your channel ! Keep up the good work, you’re such an inspiration!
Thanks, Josiane : - )
If you add a second layer of plastic on the inside it helps. Just a hand width between the layers ,, simple suspension from the frame because the outside layer blocks the beating from the wind .
Wonderful video! 😉😊😎
Adorable parents!!
Your climate isn’t to dissimilar to New Zealand, No worries growing Kiwi Fruit aka Chinese Gooseberry. I remember climbing on top of an old vine as a kid 40 years ago and sitting there eating kiwi fruit until we couldn’t fit any more in. Yummy!
Great video - and how nice to see your parents and sibs. I see gardening runs in the family!
Tim I am envious of your great blessings: health and community. Bonnie
Thanks, Bonnie. Yes, we are lucky, for sure. Aren't you too?
Way Out West Blow-in blog - Tim, unfortunately I haven't those two blessings now, but I have others.

Thanks, Guys. I'll have a cup too, please : - )
Ficou ótimo o trabalho de vocês,. Your work was great.
It seems living in Ireland is the ideal place to grow. Your hoop house looks great.
great to see your parents. 😎
I have been very successful growing figs in Ireland, it's a very fast growing tree and has plenty of fruit every year. Just an idea.
Yes my parents have a HUGE fig tree - and ours is doing well too.
Gorgeous fruits!
Would you do more on how to grow kiwi fruits please? Soil type? Shelter required if any? etc I never knew we could grow them here.
We're no experts but we'll have a go..
your parents are very lovely!
By the way: Thank you for your good pronunciation, so even for a non-native Austrian it is possible to look up some words in leodct or the google translator ;-). Ya know, Austria, those winterskiing kangaroos from the Alps ;-)
Thanks for the video.
How i wish i could travel to ur country.... 😢
I want to grow old to that place.
Your parents had children so you all could help them with the yard work haha This is a lovely video :)
That;s why I had a child LOL
That's the plan!
Beautiful video ;)
I hope it withstands the hurricane...Good luck
So great to see that you are growing kiwis! Wow. How do they taste? Do they get sweet?
❤❤❤
my dad planted kiwi berry here (northeast pa, high elevation) they just squeak out in this climate.they are grape size smooth skinned and eaten skin and all.give them a try tim!
Interesting!
very nice Kiwi, what county were you in where the sun shines? thanks
Wexford
Thanks.
Way Out West Blow-in blog can you leave the name of the kiwi what variety ? Thanks in eire also
if you can grow tomatoes in your garden, then you shouldn't have a problem growing the green kiwi, but the gold kiwi, its a lot sweeter then the green I think it needs a little more sun to ripen up
Never knew there was an inside and an outside to plastic sheets
I can't figure out are the kiwis inside or outside the tunnel.? My mom's favour ite
Yes, it's not clear, is it? They're outside. The bush is the same size as the whole tunnel..
Why did you ever leave that wonderful climate! Was that because you needed a larger plot? Or are properties very expensive over there?
Yes, prices are much higher on the east side of Ireland
سبحان الله العظيم الذي رزق الناس مختلف أنواع الفاكهةعلى كوكب الأرض
How long do Kiwi fruit last once picked? Or do you use them in jams/preserves?
weeks and weeks!
Of course they will grow because you are hard workers and everything will go well. But you shouldn’t forget to post some videos with your geese .
my god! you really can grow kiwis in Ireland!?% :o
YEAH, NICE BEHIND TIM! lol
Cheers, Martin : - )
I was thinking...She was the first one to admire it...no matter what you say :)
kiwi berries! hardy in siberia!
Do you change the soil inside? After several planting seasons i mean.
No, not really. But we would never grow the same things in the same place the following year. And lots of seaweed and manure are added regularly
Your accent, where are you from originally.😊
2-sided poly film?? Does it breathe better than the plain variety of plastic?
Interesingly, Kiwifruit was supposedly a coinage of a New Zealand gov't woman who suggested changing the name from Gooseberry which is what they did when they began exporting kiwifruit circa 1960s/1970s....Sadly, we Yanks call 'em "Kiwis", which is how they are labeled in produce markets. Apologies to the flightless birds and human N-Zedders!
Can I ask what part of ireland are u in.
Could you point me in the right direction regarding growing kiwi fruit? Do you start with seeds, cuttings or a ripe kiwi fruit itself?
I think you can take cuttings but a plant from the garden centre might be more reliable
Way Out West Blow-in blog
Never thought of that! Lol
Thanks for the reply.
(Don't forget the Patreon acct, devoted followers!.. a monthly dollar/euro is painfree and alleviates the guilt :) So many questions - grade/mil of plastic? overall dimensions? overheating in summer? .... and more, but I forget!
The plastic is something like 0.15 of a mm, apparently. You can buy it to fit any size polytunnel. It's UV resistant and lasts maybe 10 years.
The doors are usually left open through the summer - otherwise there is a chance of overheating in them (though I've never seen it happen down our way).
What part of ireland do u live in
wow that Kiwi looks like it could swallow a house
I know! A triffid for sure
Tim your Mother is really beautiful
Yes she is!
I can't tell do them grow on a tree or vine??
It's more like a big floppy bush - 15' high
That's where I went wrong! I didn't get Tim & Sandra to cover my Tasmanian polytunnel for me. What's your call-out fee, guys?
Sorry, Ruby - unless you can find us a shortcut, you're just outside our range because we have to get back in time to milk the sheep : - )
Couldn't you bring them too? And Flora?
Who knew?,!
в тебе дуже сексуальна дружина.
