    It seems incredible but local people often seemed very surprised but incredibly happy to meet Americans traveling in their countries. We were always told that the only foreigners they meet are European. I cannot say enough to the generous hospitality we received along the entire route.
    All but 4 nights of our trip were spent wild camping, and we encountered many difficult points along the way. We managed to keep spirits up through a lighthearted approach. We rode portions of the Tian Shan Traverse mountain bike route and at other points we forged our own way. This meant for some gnarly hike-a-bikes that made ride-able portions feel that much better.
    We were amazed by the incredible scenery these countries have to offer and hope that with this video we can inspire more people to travel to this wonderful region self supported.

    I miss this kind of adventure videos on youtube. Honestly, like Carlos Costa and the others. Just simple and pure documentation of the trip with some added details to broaden or complete the story. Most travel videos now are too vanity-focused, and bandwagon type of travel video, with unnecessary EDM and other music. Honesty, this types of videos with all the raw wind, bike, river, ocean, and other ambient sounds with subtle music gives so much more sense of the place and the adventure rather than too much fancy editing that isn't even good and just trying to look like everybody else. The problem is too many travel / adventure videos are now like vlog which is more talk and less show. Whereas this video and the other good and old ones practice the rule or guide in filmmaking which is; SHOW DON'T TELL. Yes, I am annoyed by too much "HEY GUYS, WASSUP GUYS, THIS IS BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH" with few footages other than their faces. But in this video as shown tells more of the story rather than recording a vanity-fueled travel video. This is inspiring. Thanks for sharing your trip! I am excited to do mine in the near future.

    Awesome filming guys, bad news your kit got stolen though, but glad you got sorted out, you should try and get a biolite stove 2 for cooking and charging your kit .. question what did you use to charge up your drone ... I have a mavic air and just got a Jackery power bank that will take a plug for my drone batteries plus I've got the anker solar system...

    • @KarlKroll
      @KarlKroll  5 років тому +1

      As far as recharging the drone we needed an outlet. That just meant really conserving battery when we did fly. Which jackery power bank are you using? The biolite stove also looks interestiing, how efficient is the charge you get off of cooking?

    • @waynerenshaw-multi-outdoor4521
      @waynerenshaw-multi-outdoor4521 5 років тому

      @@KarlKroll if you use wood pellets that are used for cat litter they burn for a while , fill the biolite stove 3/4 full that will get you 45 to 50mins burn time, just using wood burns quicker, but you'll get a full charge on the power bank built into the stove 2 in about 2hrs as it charges the hotter it gets.. check it out on UA-cam.. the jackery power bank has an outlet for a combination off plugs, you could charge that via solar powered on your bikes whilst riding ... get the jackery on Amazon 👍

    • @KarlKroll
      @KarlKroll  5 років тому +3

      just searched for new ones later, kindof a pain but in Almaty there were a decent number of bike shops. Still it did take us most of the day to acquire new ones. I've had trouble getting boxes before and just ended up taping together cardboard to make something work which isn't terrible

    • @KarlKroll
      @KarlKroll  5 років тому +2

      I was 3x10 and felt great, John was 1x11 and suffered but is going to a 42 tooth for the biggest gear when he joins me in the Puna de Atacama in a few weeks.. with a 1 by setup i guess anything is comfortable as long as you have a big enough granny gear

    That goat would have made a fantastic meal. It could have fed you for a week.

    God saved the goat. If these guys were not there, that poor kid would have died in that rock

    Free an innocent helpless animal and make it a joyful occasion , but normally eat innocent helpless animals and think nothing of it.....

      @@RedGollum Same old nonsense. Plants are not sentient, lions eat meat out of necessity or else they would die, humans don't eat meat out of necessity. Humans are herbivorous/frugivores by nature and biological design. Eating meat was survival food only when plants were not available (humans migrating into unsuitable areas of the planet).

      @@johnnyveganite9141 Who are you though to tell people not to eat meat? From your name it's obvious you're one of those vegans pushing your own values onto others giving all vegans a bad rep. I'm fine if you don't want to eat meat but don't force others to do that.
      We eat meat because we can. Because we like it. If you don't like it that's all on yourself.
