How much did he say the bulls wiegh before going to the slaughter? I would like to learn how seal the deal on ranch land for cattle. I live in a area where there is lots of farming.. I found a good deal on some 40acres in the middle of commercial farmland..i am concerned the chemicals used could adversely affect productivity.

Hi Cid, he said that they have a live weight of 500-550kg before slaughter. I can't help you with your other question though. I'm a filmmaker not a farmer, and any knowledge I have of farming comes from making these videos.

I know! He talks quickly and in a very clipped manner. Stick on the subtitles and that should get you most of the way there :)

Hai..We have a land area of 135 hectares with a license for beef cattle fattening, and are currently looking for companies interested in becoming investors in Indonesia. Only 3 hours from the capital.

It's nearly 2 years since we were there but I think that he had 200 acres with an option of renting another 200 when he needed it.

13 months on the farm - then death. High price to pay 💰.

they are bulls. why are not steered out?

I would imagine that it's because he is trying to be as efficient as he can on farm. If there is no need to neuter then there is no need for spending time on surgery? Perhaps they reach their target weight more quickly as bulls rather than steers.

It is a bit foreign to me.In Canada everything is steered.I was under the impression that if you didn't it would affect the quality of the meat.

Just a quick google gave me this "Meat Production Difference
Bulls are larger than steers and, therefore, their carcasses post slaughter produce more edible meat than do those of steers. The Journal of Animal Science reports that a bull carcass produces anywhere from 10 to 20 percent more meat compared to a steer carcass. This higher yield applied to all cuts obtained from the carcass, but was significantly greater in the rib eye cut, popular for its juicy flavor, which comes from the upper rib section." I'd say that this is what he's getting out of not castrating them.

as long as their is a market for it.I dont care ether way.I would rather do it that way.Less labour cost. Here if I ship cattle to stockyards yearling that are not steered will be discounted!

I think the meat is eventually sold to a large UK supermarket chain. So their emphasis might be more on consistency rather than taste?

What difference does it make??!! Those calves are going to die anyway and become our meals so why bother caring for them??!!! Making cows and calves as "pets" is simply ridiculous!!!

Because animal welfare is a thing? No matter how short or how long the animal's life may be, it's our job to provide a happy, comfortable life for them. After all, they are dying for us. That's something that we can't just give back.
