Dijon is one of the most special artists of this generation. His sensibility to create atmosphere, emotion, and originality in every track is something only an artist like Frank Ocean can do for me consistently. It makes me so happy to see his work start to get recognized.
I think the songwriting is a bit spotty in some parts of the album, but the atmosphere, emotionality, and production make up for it big time-it's not perfect, but that's also part of its charm
This album feels so beautifully unhinged, convoluted, and raw. Heavily Bruce Springsteen inspired, while also taking from rock and r&b genres in the best way.
Talk down easily one the best songs I’ve heard in minute, on repeat since I first listened to it. Can’t help but think of that someone while blasting this in the car. Crazy addictive vocals on this 1
Dijon definitely is for sure an artist to watch! Love his mellow sound. And I think he will be more recognized as the early 2010s sound comes back into favour in the next few years
One of my favorite records of the year. Have had the full thing on repeat since last Friday. Has a few rough edges but Dijon's unique blend of sounds and textures from various influences make it one very compelling record. Was hoping you would review this one melon, this record is becoming a modern cult classic.
i agree with the melon on this one. it has some crazy good bangers and vibes, i love the "live take" kinda style to most the tracks. it makes it feel very personal, like you can really see just a bunch of musicians forming these songs through jam sessions. im excited to see more from dijon, glad to see you review this album.
love this album, it's so raw and organic and lively, and dijon blends together so many genres and style so that every track feels surprising and new. definitely a strong 8 to light 9 for me.
I really wish he made Annie a full song instead of being just under 2 minutes. That melody and hook is so catchy and the raspiness in his voice leaves you wanting more!!
Discovered Dijon through his single Crybaby and I never knew why I liked that song so much until listening to this album. Simply amazing and I’m looking forward to more from him
I love this album and agree with your points and rating. I do feel this album really cuts through the musical releases we have been getting in the rnb'ish world. I think I was bored and really needed this album. It's been on repeat for me since it's release.
I’ve been listening to this album since it came out. It flows so well. I love that it doesn’t conform to what’s popular and it’s very much so just art. The vocals aren’t perfect and it’s amazing because life isn’t perfect the writing is really good sometimes you feel he’s ranting then you all of a sudden hear a really catchy hook. I could really go in all day but this is the best R&B /Alternative album since blonde..
Just went back and gave it a listen, worthy of a playlist just centered around this. I only didn't add 2 songs and would still totally be okay listening to them, not like blonde's interludes where you basically need a playlist without them after a few listens. Amazing album, INCREDIBLY unique and beautiful, 9/10.
this album came out of left field for me. i had never heard of Dijon and saw it advertised on instagram. amazing album, honestly. i absolutely cannot wait for another album from him.
I agree with this review wholeheartedly. The album is a good listen, especially if you have been following Dijon for a while. It almost feels like a continuum from ‘How do you feel about..’ ep. While some of the songs I took to immediately, others needed some time to grow on me. I love Dijon’s artistry. The only thing I would’ve really wanted is a bit of refinement and direction since this is his actual debut album. It kinda just felt like one of his eps (which I’ve loved), but didn’t feel like a debut album.
Love the energy of the video versions, but I feel like some of that was lost in these recordings. Big Mike's, Talk Down, and Many Times go way harder in the performance videos. Still, Dijon is definitely one to watch.
I am so glad you made this video on Dijon, I've known about him since July and he is one of my favorite artists now! I wish everyone felt the way you mentioned Rodeo Clown made you feel, that's exactly what I felt but then I make my friends and family listen and they don't seem to get it lol!
The 'scant' aesthetic should be interpreted artistically! To me it feels like someone screaming at the world because they're feeling inadequate. Perfectly executed 🤌
It's tough when artists don't sing or make the same music they did when you were first introduced to them. Gotta be willing to grow with the artist though. Always gonna support @dijon. Looking forward to the next project.
Such an underrated album and artist. The amount of emotion that he’s able to portray through his voice is so amazing. Glad I found out about Dijon. He’s one of a kind.
Bro needledrop needs to check out other indie artist projects like Yeek - Valencia, Boylife - gelato, Dreamer Boy - All The Ways We Are Together and AG Club and also seeyousoon
Imagine if artists worked on their songs like how stand up comedians worked on jokes. Instead of making it once and released it, they release it continuously in different versions to test which is received the best untill they're perfected and then release them officially
Hmm nah. That’s basically what drake does and ITS BORING. I get the idea but don’t think it works for music as its much more universal and longer than a 30 second joke
@@cheekybananaboy3361 hes pretty versatile in R&B but most of his projects especially the last 3 sound the exact same. As if he found a formula that works and keeps milking it with no creative spark whatsoever
a lot of artists literally do this though - dijon himself plays different versions of songs live and, I don't think he does it solely to gauge crowd response but, I'm sure the way it feels to play live and how people respond to certain songs will influence their final versions.
@@pavensandhu3813 Okay i see what the initial comment meant now. Songs not actual projects. Makes more sense now. Like giveon releasing acoustic versions and then electric ones etc. Makes sense apologies hahahah
I appreciate you giving it a thorough listen. That means everything 2 me!
I appreciate YOU making it
Would love to see you play in London!
I got that shirt you wearin on the cover shout out Dark Throne.
Congrats king! Come to London again soon
I appreciate you for the album, I can’t remember the last time I’ve been this moved
dijon gonna be one of the best artists of this new decade
Replying to this so I can come back in 5 years and agree with you again.
!!!
saw him live tonight, he opened for Bon Iver. i had never heard of him and i am a new fan!
@@ovrxpsd same I did too but I went purely for dijon
yes
Rodeo Clown has Dear April level soul-crushing vocals
Fr
White Ferrari by Frank Ocean level vocals
wow this dude read my diary or sumn
I’ve never heard a man that distraught on a record.. Frank Ocean sounds like he’s in pain on his tracks - but my god that track was on another level.
yeah yeah yeah
Really love the mk.gee production on this record too, super underrated guy and he and dijon seem to work really well together
Once I heard what mk.gee and Dijon did with “Many Times’ I knew I would love this
Nice
I respect you , old lady.
Mk.Gee is an absolute prodigy
highly agree mk.Gee is underrated
the way that many times transitions into annie has me listening to both songs on repeat
every day im more fascinated by ur music taste. love it nick :))
yesss! The dress and God in Wilson has something similar with a synth and background sounds bridging the two tracks together
Good ass transitions like that are truly a lost art
I knew I subbed to you for a reason lmao

reminding me to listen to it 100 times again

As someone who’s been following him over the years, I’m so glad Dijon is getting the attention he deserves :)
I will always thank Spotify’s daily mix for putting “Skin” on a playlist for me
Good for you sir
Same. I was surprised to see melon reviewing him
@@AaronTats drunks also good!
I've been there for Dijon since "Skin"
a respectable opinion, but I thought something about the way this album was made felt really special. definitely an 8 at least for me.

Yesssssss Talk Down is my jam! But so is Big Mike, The Dress, and Many Times. And Scratching is cool too.
Been listening to Dijon since Abhi// Dijon days it’s nice to see him grow as an artist. This album has definitely been one of favorites to listen.
I went from not know who this guy was to discovering he's opening for Bon Iver next year. Checked out this record and it's definitely a vibe!

This year has to be one of the best years for music, so many 7s and higher, 2 10s, genuinely amazing
You can’t just give Dijon a 7 and not a 10 because you “like dijon mustard but not love it”
🌯
Mustard on the beat
Hilarious 🙄
Wow DJ Mustard really changed his aesthetic. Respect.
this is an 8.5 minimum imo. it’s such a great debut.
