yezer. I sure wish you had some of them sounds recorded from my favorite bus: Flxible Metro & 870. Good work man. Keep on bringing the juice baby. Another added to my collection.
I sure as hell will never forget this bus. This was the last ever GMC RTS I rode before it got scrapped early last year on the Q60.I recorded it and still had that sound.Long live the GMC RTS'!!!
I rode and recorded on this bus, its engine sounded really coarse on both my occasion and this one. That clatter at the beginning of the acceleration really sounds like a motorcycle.
My stepdad bought one out of Pheonix for $2,000 equipped with the Stop Requested Tape. Tweaking with the black smoke he got about 10 mpg highway instead of 6 and takeoff is enough to knock a chair over on the inside(it is now a motorhome).
Green Lines RTS buses and extremely old Orion Vs were classics. The hybrids dont sound as good, but theyd look pretty cool with QSC, Triboro, and Green Lines.
Extremely old Orion Vs were Classics? No, Classic and Orion V are completely different models, built by different manufacturers. And, Classics and 80s RTSs own Orion Vs anyday. Long live RTSs and Classics equipped with old two-stroke Detroit engines.
It’s sounds like 👍 the Detroit Diesel 6V-71 engine & it’s sounds like 👍 the Detroit Department of Transportation 1987 GM TC-40102 Classic #1900-1999 has that sound like 👍 a lawnmower to. It does not a DD 6V-92TA engine
Well it all depended on how the company took care of them. Mta did a pretty good job maintaining those rts' but there was only so much they can do with them because of their age. Hey are still and will be the strongest mass transit bus ever built (beside the blitz but that's another story)
My stepdad bought a 1980 Valley Metro GMC RTS. It was still purple and green with the big V and everything. We gutted it, put in floors, plumming, beds, a fridge etc... we made it a motorhome and now he stays in it in the summers in West Yellowstone to run his business Virtual Tourguide. virtualtourguide. net has more info on that. I feel like I know these buses so well. It's slightly weird.
Is this a Detroit Diesel 6V-71 engine and it sounds like the bad head gasket seals 🦭 and tell me the truth and this 6V-71 Detroit Diesel (between 1980 and 1983 GMC 04 ‘s) engine is the slowest between 40 mph and 55 mph speed just like the GMC/Flxible fishbowls new look buses, AMG/Flyer ADB also have the same engine but some buses have the Detroit Diesel 8V-71 with a Allison 730 transmission and most of the Detroit Diesel 6V-71 engines don’t have all the power just like the Detroit Diesel 6V-92 engine and it’s had a lot of powerful engine between 50 mph and goes up to 80 mph speed traffic on the freeway.
Me too, I Love RTSes, I hopelly it will be a comeback for 2009 RTSes.
all these years and i never been on a bus with that sound. you a lucky person!!
YYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!! This is CLASSIC son!! I thought I'd never hear that tick on an RTS. You MUST lemme have a copy of this sound recording.

This bus was actually rebuilt in 1998 but was originally GBL 609. This bus was rebuilt using RTS 03 interior parts.

At 3:08 and 3:24 best parts i miss when mbtas 80s rts would shift into that gear. I felt like that was the strong point
Well yeah the RTS are stronger on build up. But the Take offs Some RTS' are very weak in take off. Those Hybrids are bad ass with the Take off.
1990s are NYCT. GL buses left are those 5s you were talking about, three suburban 5s, and the last GL RTS, 5926.
When did you record this audio?
use to see these buses and long bus when i was a kid living in queens. now i live in long island.
Green Lines RTS buses and extremely old Orion Vs were classics. The hybrids dont sound as good, but theyd look pretty cool with QSC, Triboro, and Green Lines.
@QueensBuses unfortunately 5926 is retired as of right now as that bus is in storage as casey stengel depot

It almost sound like a GM/Flxible New Look

I work in Hoboken, NJ for NJT
Somebody said this bus sounded like a lawnmower!!!
is that the famous 6v-92?
Oh yeah. You know the RTSes are alot stronger than those POS Hybrids. But The Hybrids are alot faster than the RTSes.
No I mean, classics as like they were cool, and we'd always like them. Not the MCI classics.
sounds like the valves on the engine or motor are bad or need to be re cut
but it was a classic sound, when you got on a gmc rts on green lines or jamaica buses you expected that or rear doors that were broken
You mean mostly Green Lines?
Why is the engine making that tapping noise every time the accelerator is pushed?
What a classic Cummins clapper sound! and what a thrilling VOITH D8!!!!!!!!!!
