I have a 2012 1.2 mpi polo highline which has run only 48000 kms and has again developed engine issue. Its EPC light is on and its engine and body is rattling and shaking like crazy. Last time it happened it had run 32k kms. Had got all 3 ignition plugs, spark plugs and the entire set changes for 10k approx then. So, got it to volkswagen service station, the engineer said that he'll have to check if there's a compression issue. He asked me to submit my car for 3 days. If there's a compression issue, then we'll have to change the entire engine set which will cost me somewhere around 25-30k. And 3 days for checking the issue and what if engine has to be replaced? another 30 days! I mean people buy cars to park in garage or what? I used to think that if you get your vehicle serviced in time at authorised service stations, it wouldn't give any problem. Thats true for Maruti & Hyundai cars as per my experience but not with this metal junk Volkswagen polo. Imagine what kind of a car would develop engine problems after running merely 48k kms and timely serviced every single time at authorised service stations only? doubting if i had a bad luck that i got a lemon, i enquired several indian car websites and to my surprise found many similar cases with this product. Buying a volkswagen thinking of german engineering and safety proved to be a curse. Now i'm stuck with this lemon, can't even sell it off worrying what the person who buys it from me later discovers all this would think of me that i duped him/her. its as good as a scrap now. I have already prevented 4 of my friends from buying volkswagen products. So, i advice you gentlemen and ladies even to think a thousand times before buying a volkswagen...
if you are budget buyer and needs hands free maintenance. Go for Swift... Quality style and comfort go for I20. Polo is much ahead than both of these two... I20 and swift are same in many parameters.. swift is easy to find spares and service. All India maruti has service centres. better budget vehicle swift for common man
could you give comparison review to the pertrol version of the three cars (Elite i20 ,POLO & SWIFT).
I am going on vacations to europe and can rent either the polo or the i20. Which would you choose?

I was wating for this reveiw for a long time,, I own a polo, have to tell you, even tough you have better features in Elite i20, but you wouldn't buy a car for features. First purpose of buying a car is to take you from point A to B, Safely and with power, That's why i feel Polo wins it over and over. You will not want to get out of the drivers seat.. but the rear seat is still cramped.
WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IN ANY CASE OF A HYUNDAI i20 OR A suzuki swift sedan 1.2 ... to your own experience
Maruti needs to launch the Swift Sport that they currently have on sale in the European Market in India. That car can kick some serious Butt.

If u want a petrol fun to drive hatchback swift is the best car here....If u want a diesel thn go for the polo tdi.... Then the family men can get the elite i20.... Swift is the best car for youth..It is very nice to drive and very cheap to maintain....good milage... but diesel swift lacks the braking performance(LDI,VDI)...

@Naveen Kumar : The Brio is a joke honestly. At the expense of sounding too sexist, if there is one car which shouts 'Ladies only' from the looks of it, it has to be the Brio. Not to forget, it is a segment below the Polo, Swift and i20 Elite. The proper match from Honda would be the upcoming Jazz, for which we'll have to wait. And it might..just might trump all three here with its combination of great looks, space and performance. Lets hope Honda doesnt eff-up the pricing again.
I own a volkswagen vento diesel highline model 1.6L tdi and an elite i20 1.4Lcrdi ASTA version ....and I must say i20 is a fun to drive car and gives you a great feel to be in ... where on other hands vento is much safer and performance is unmatchable ...both the cars are good in its own ways ... but i20 has a heavy side in terms of features and looks :)

I think it has all the essence what these three has.
Swift may be cheaper and launched a decade ago if you graph the
technical improvement with the other two it way behind. Which shows the swift is not improvising (and they say a face lift)
on the other hand take bolt, punto, polo, i20 there is atleast a minimal improvement.
If only Maruti launches a Swift ZDi+ variant with 90PS/200Nm VGT diesel motor, LED DRLs, 2-tone diamond-cut alloys, and rear disc-brakes (from its Australia variant), i20 and Polo will have to pack their bags and leave.
I had hoped that you would cover cost of insurance, maintenance ( for a period of over 5 years ), and mileage.

polo does matter.
so forget swift !! forget i20 elite take a testdrive of volkswagen polo and you will certainly feel wow factor. people who are fond of driving can look for polo gt tsi and tdi...
But this is unfair where the hell is punto evo. It has 90 hp,fantastic ride and handling, good interiors and has a similar price tag like polo. This comparison is incomplete

i20 Elite is the Best
If you want a family car with lot of features go for elite i20. If you want to enjoy driving, better fuel economy, low maintenance and good resale then go for swift.

I owned a polo. Vw polo is best car in hatchback segmet. Polo is as soomther than swift and i20..polo's ground clearance is also good..&road stability of the car is also good than that of swift & i20..
The built quality of vw polo is gud.. and u r buying the car in hatch back segment i will sugest the vw polo...is the best car .. i love this car😘❤

Anyday swift zxi/zdi is better than all in its price, performance nd efficiency. It's very fun to drive also with all features.
Should have considered Brio for this test as well..
best car is elite i20 .its family car.dont go with vw in india.they have wotst servicing and min service centres.so urban area people forget polo go for i20 or swift
i have driven all the three cars and i have maeuti sizuki swift and hyundai i20 but hyundai i20 is best in its class

No Punto? thats because it thumps others in ride, handling, Steering, breaking and looks. Only Polo beats punto in Engine dept.

They should have atleast included Polo Evo 90hp in the competition.
Its a tough car to beat in these areas:
- Steering Feedback, very direct.
- Ride and Handling at Any Speed.
- Suspension Setup
- Ground Clearance
- Looks, Exterior and Interior.
- Many other silent Feature.
I seriously doubt Polo can beat Punto in the above items ( except the Interior )

they are wrong!!!!!!!!!!!! winner is volkswagen polo coz polo gives you the feeling on road as whatever it is bring it on!!!.......polo is very successful car as it comes with three different varients - highline, gt ones with 105hp and the ultimate one is polo gti with 192hp with pro features. finally polo's any variant can outmatch i20. You know one cannot critize or doubt german engineering......

Polo is shit dont get it. the engine is brilliant but that's it. if you want a all round car the i20 is the best. I own one and so does 4 of my friends they have all had problems guess what item the petrol filter went that means no firing up. and that's the problem they are getting sued for in the US

Why no Chevrolet Sail Hatchback ? It is better than the Swift overall and Falls behind the Polo and i20.Sad.I own a Chevy Optra LS 2004.It has been a Very Reliable and a Faithful Member of our Family.Just that Indians Under-rate Chevy.I still have her which is 11 Years Old and has ran 2 Lakh + Kms without a Single Re-build.It feels very sad to see people under-rate Chevy by telling - High Maintainence and all those lies.

IMHO The swift is the best.
My vote for the Polo... Great interiors, classiness and quality with awesome power.
The Swift, although a bit old and un-premium, is the most enjoyable, easy and cheapest in this trio.
The Elite felt like a toy in my hand...and I didn't enjoy even a bit while driving it. It has ZERO driver involvement and pleasure. It also looks ugly to me.
I expect another big comparo with the Tata Bolt, given it has the good things of all these cars.
Hyundai Suzuki sucks....really sucks...dynamics, handling, safety , quality ....they suck....polo all the way!!
Best is swift-- sab safety hi nhi hota... Itna safety chahiye toh JCB le lo....Bhai kitna mileage , and parts cost bhi matter karta hai..So swift was , in and will always be the best....Aise hi nahi maruti ka 53 percent market share hai india mein...
