  • New blades at long last woohoo! Here's a video of me unboxing my new John Wilson Coronation Ace blades and getting them attached and sharpened. I'll also be comparing them to my old blades (Jackson Ultima Aspire). No intro today as I'm working on a new one!

    A prize for anyone who can figure out which character is on my shirt through my reflection in the blades in this video

      It was an adjustment to begin with but over an hour or so, I found my spins and edge control improving! Thank you :) x

    YES girl! You will not regret getting the CA. I got them as my first ‘upgrade’ blade last year and it took me a while to get used to them but now I love them. Be warned: they are on a 7ft rocker and I’m guessing(?) your old ones are an 8ft. They will be more curved and you will notice the back rocker (I didn’t know this existed lol 🤦‍♀️) I kept nearly falling backwards every time I stepped on the ice until I got used to it. Your spins will be 👌 on these. Enjoy!!

      Yes my old ones were 8"! I'm editing the first skate video but it was such a big change for me, I agree! Can't wait for lockdowns to end so I can skate again!

      Explains why I have been rocking back and forth uncontrollably in the beginning 🤦🏻‍♀️ the ‘back rocker’ was definitely a surprise.

    Wow you did a great job at taking care of your old blades, zero rust!

      Thank you! I was still so surprised to see how the sole looked under them 😂

      Could be because it’s a different metal? Stainless steel doesn’t rust as easily as carbon steel, for example.

    Omg I got the same blades like 2 weeks ago! I just got new skates - Edea Chorus w/ Coronation Ace blades!!! It took me 2-3 weeks to get used to them. The first week I was soooo frustrated I cried out of frustration during a lesson because I was hearing the same correction from like 100 yrs ago and I was like ‘nooooo i was able to do this yesterday on my old skates!!!!’
    Anyway separate question.... do you or does anyone else have a problem that all you can skating is think about anymore and you can’t focus at work. No wonder young skaters are home schooled....

      I agree! It was a big change for me and I realised that adjusting will take a bit of time...
      Hahaha it sounds like you really love the sport, there are certainly some days that I feel the same :) I wish I could skate more and that my state was out of lockdowns!

    I just discovered this channel and it's interesting. I'm 25 and I want to start figure skating (as a hobby). It's interesting for me to watch your progress in this sport, really great. Keep up the good work!

    Oh, that’s so weird! We had Aspire as our old blades, too before switching to Coronation, but on both our skates the Aspires had cross cut picks 🤔

    • @ImoneOnIce
      @ImoneOnIce  2 роки тому +3

      Did you have Aspire XPs? I believe the XP models have the crosscut, whereas the Aspires have straight cuts.

      @@ImoneOnIce yeah, ours were XP. Makes sense now

    Please let us know how you adjust going down to a 7' rocker. I also had the mirage blade, straight cut toe pick, 8' rocker, straight cut parallel blade. I was going to get the John Wilson Coronation Ace same as your video but when I realized the rocker was shorter I went with a Jackson blade that is rated comparable to the John Wilson Coronation Ace but the rocker is 8'. My new blades have the crosscut toe pick.
    When I go to my next level boots I may consider Jihn Wilson's but qas told I should kept with the same rocker size I am used to.
    Anyway, would be interested in hearing about your experience adjusting and what was hard or better.

      I'm currently editing the video of my first skate in them! But it certainly was a big change for me, the general consensus has been that there's an adjustment period after which it gets much easier and you improve. I'll try to get this video out soon, I've been super lazy with editing!

    Are they metal threaded screws in the sole? I'd be worried about ruining the thread in the sole if not. I'm assuming they are as the kinds of forces involved on the blade as you change direction or momentum (eg sliding stop) are going to be pretty extreme.

    • @ImoneOnIce
      @ImoneOnIce  2 роки тому +1

      Yes they are :) I was dubious about it at first!

    Are your boots Risport? I thought the cracking on the back part was something I did wrong while storing them but I see yours look the same.

      Yep, mine are Risport RF3 Pros. Sorry to hear about the cracking! I haven't had that happen (yet).

    Can you change the blade model and mount it on your old skates. Like I wanna change from pattern 99 ( John Wilson )to gold seal revolution (John Wilson)??? 🫶🏻🫶🏻
