  • In Episode 5 of our 6-day long survival challenge, we begin, like most of our days, bowhunting deer from a treestand. We process some more black walnuts, check our live traps, and do a few sets of raccoon and crow to try to get even more food on our survival challenge. The end is capped off with another deer hunt over freshly cut soybean field. We grind up our raccoon meat and fry it up combined with wild rice for a hearty meal. FULL SEASON 6 PLAYLIST: • Season 6: The Wilderne...
In this 6-day long survival challenge, we test our limits, skill, and ability to maintain our body weight and thrive only eating wild foods that we scavenge, forage, collect, trap, hunt and fish, in and around the cabin.
    Jeremy (One Wildcrafter): / @onewildcrafter
In Episode 1 of our 6-day long survival challenge, we settle into cabin life in the woods. First we wake up to a squirrel hunt, which was supposed to be an archery deer hunt, just without deer. We spot a turkey, but it won't come into our mouth calls. We give the raccoon call a try without much success either. Afterwards, we take a walk on our 40 acres to check our baited live traps set for raccoon. We are using a combination of haveahart-style traps and an Advanced Trap which can catch all kinds of big animals up to the size of a coyote.
We collect wild or feral apples and also show you how to prepare black walnuts for eating as a wild edible. We finish the day off with wild apple cobbler made fresh with maple syrup and leached acorns. This entire season is about homesteading, but we are also looking at collecting as many wild foods as possible in order to send Jeremy home with some surplus foods for his "big wild year."
We will pursue all kinds of wild animals including beaver, raccoon, skunk, whitetail deer, squirrel, possum, crow, grouse, duck, goose, pigeon, porcupine, bullfrog, fish, bear, apples, black walnuts, wild grapes, burdock roots and whatever else makes the mistake of crossing our path.
We will use a variety of tools including live traps, bows, crossbows, shotgun, and fishing rod.
Our ultimate goal of this survival challenge is to not only survive, but thrive. We aim not to lose any body weight, but instead look at this challenge as a long term situation where calories in need to match calories out, sustainability.
Season 6 of our Wilderness Living Challenge will take place out of our homestead, off grid cabin complete with solar power, and battery bank system in order to help us make more use of the foods and resources we are able to collect.

although I love all your content, I've been watching you from early on, this wilderness living challenge seems to lack certain things compared to the last season's. I get it your showing what's possible to do off grid. I miss the real challenge of heading out into nowhere and doing what you do. it's great to see you and Jeremy again! keep up the great work. would love to see more fishing rivers and lakes. Pretty cool you have your trout pond but it's not realistic for survival challenge survival. take care Chris.

One idea I’d like to see you guys try out for a wilderness survival challange is to try and investigate an ‘economies of scale approach’. Unlike the latest challanges, it’d be like the earlier ones with less staple foods and modern equipment. However, the biggest change would be instead of just you and another friend, it would be a larger group of people. I’m thinking you, Zach, Bob Hansler and Jeremy, and maybe even one of your spouses or Zach’s apprentice so you can get some help around the camp and or have someone focused in on gathering and camp mantainance. I think one of the things that makes it so hard for you guys is there is only 2 of you, when in fact hunter-gatherer groups traditionally operate in much larger parties to protect against irregularities and unlucky hunts and take advantage of as many food sources as possible. I would even recommend having a 5th or 6th person who wasn’t part of the challange(that is this person would be permitted to eat modern foods but other than filming, would not be allowed to help the participants), but would handle filming for you guys. One final thing: instead of measuring each individual’s weight before and after to determine who wins or loses, add up *all* members’ weight in the beginning and at the end, to determine if, as a tribe, you were successful.
This obviously sounds like a scheduling nightmare, but bringing together people with different skills could compensate for the lack of staples and shelter. I’m no wilderness survival expert, but I’ve been subscribed to you and Jeremy’s channel for a while now and I can tell you’ve all gotten more skilled. Bringing together all your abilities may very well make you guys a force to be reckoned with and give you a shot of prospering even with minimal help from modern appliances and staples.
(Note: I’d still of course like to see use of hunting equipment like crossbows, bows, rifles and of course fishing rods and maybe even allow each member of the tribe to bring along one staple of their choice.)
On a side note, I’m loving this challange! This is probably my favorite one since the challange with Bob Hansler. Keep up the good work, and can’t wait until the final episode!

Corvids, (crows included) are smart enough to remember a human's face and still recognize it as the person ages. They can intuitively figure out your intentions by your behavior and body language. With that in mind, I seriously believe you wasted your money on those silly decoys. I bet they're laughing their tails off now.

    Really enjoying this season,
I hunt crows in the Uk. Great adversary, im not familiar with the laws in Canada, but in the Uk we bait the crows with a slit open Rabbit. The only true decoy bird that will work effectively is a dead crow from another area, the crow is too intelligent to fall for a plastic deek. The real decoy will activate the territorial instinct of the resident crows, which in turn will yield a bigger bag 👍

I believe if you join as a member to his channel for $4.95 per month, you get access to his private videos that show him cleaning and skinning animals.

Hey Wooded Beardsman is there a way to label these videos to show which season this video is of? It has been neat to follow this season. Keep up the good work!

There's a playlist at the top linked. That's really the best way.

I wonder if you have prunes on your property? You could try and dry them! Then use them when you cook goose(or duck). Put apples and prunes in the cavity and then put it in the oven with a small amount of water. I love it. So tasty!
(I also use salt, pepper and sometimes bayleaf but not sure that is allowed)
