  • Welcome to the Honeywell RDR-4000 IntuVue weather radar pilot training for Airbus aircraft, including the new hazard version 2.0 display features. This presentation was created by the Honeywell Flight Technical Services Group. This presentation is Honeywell proprietary information and is subject to export restrictions. This is revision 1, dated March 2018. This training is broken into modules. These modules will build upon each other, providing a basis for understanding and using the RDR-4000 system. The modules should be viewed in order they will compare the RDR-4000 to conventional radar. Look at the heart of the system: the 3D volumetric buffer and the operational modes it provides. Towards the end, we'll pull it all together by showing some operational examples. This will explain how to deal with Stratis weather and some in-service experience. The final module is for operators who have the hazard version 2.0 display features installed.

Given the technical expertise at Honeywell I can't get over how poor the audio is.

Base ref shows a specific elevation on the wsr-88DP. Composite shows all the elevation scans together. I think composite you are use to shows something different. So when I’m looking for tornadoes for example. I look at 0.5 deg because tornadoes happen in the lowest levels of the atmosphere. Base ref. You can select the elevation you want to look at and look at it alone. Composite is compiling multiple elevations together which is pretty much useless for detailed analysis because the resolution is lower. I have access to a 1 mega watt radar and the resolution on it will show objects. 50x100 yards. The wsr-88d shows objects close to 1x1miles. Without smoothing it’s difficult to see stuff.

Can we expect any video for Pilot Training of the RDR-4000 Radar on the Embraer 190/195 E2 aircrafts ?

I am baffled how this weather radar was approved. It’s appalling, used it going into Madrid the other day. Doesn’t display weather unless you’re very near half the time. I much prefer the original one in the Airbus, raw data and allows me to decide what is actual weather.
