Oh boy, it's confession time again... I liked Angelis' HiT era narration style. Bias, I'm sure, but I liked it, at least until Season 13. And then when I was a kid, the episodes I liked best were Squeak Rattle and Roll and Henry and the Wishing Tree. Yeah, Henry having trouble with coaches is horseshit, but the 11 year old me was still entertained by it. This is why you probably don't wanna do a Collab with me, Sean. You'd get major "What the heck?" opinions 😃 When it comes to recommending the DVD, I'd normally stick to the standard Video Memories response: "If it entertains the kids, that's all that matters"... That being said, my problem isn't with the quality of episodes, but how few episodes are on it. You'd get more episodes on a classic VHS tape like Down the Mine or Percy and the Signal. If they had 8 or 9 episodes, I'd recommend it for the Thomas-loving kids, but unfortunately, there's just not enough on the proverbial plate.
Yeah I totally agree, anything with Thomas in it will entertain the kids, and the longer the runtime, the less stress it is for the parents. Even with the worst era of Thomas, kids will enjoy it no matter what. it’s a shame that most of the UK vhs tapes didn’t get transferred to dvd, the only compilations that survived the transition to dvd were most likely the ones that sold the best. Which makes me wonder why chases races and runaways never went over to dvd as I’m sure it sold well. In terms of a collab with you I’d be 100% down but the main problem would be what we would cover as I can’t really remember anything that neither of us have covered yet. I honestly like Season 8. The Models look a lot nicer, the music is cool (especially Thomas’ season 8 theme and Gordon’s season 8 theme), however there are some problems with season 8. I don’t think Henry’s wishing tree isn’t cannon (in my opinion). If Hit can make Fireman Sam better then the original (until the cgi series) why can’t they do that with Thomas?
Gonna start reviewing these episodes myself Thomas To The Rescue, 9/10. I’ve always had a soft spot for this one, second best season 8 episode, good sets, good story nice characters selection (although Bill and Ben would be nice to see too) also the music I really like in this episode. Also holds lots of nolstalgic value as I owned this episode on a children’s compilation dvd and would also watch that and Truck Loads Of Fun on trips or when I went to my nans house Henry And The Wishing Tree, 1/10 there is so much wrong with this episode bottom 10 of the series IMO. Terrible story and execution and terrible OOC moments Thomas And The Tuba, 6/10 this one is very forgettable however it really doesn’t do anything that bad aside from Thomas being very stupid and Annie and Clarabel but it had a decent accident and also some ok moments and also it has a nice selection of characters Squeak Rattle And Roll, 4/10, Why would Gordon believe Diesel?, now I know I’m Tender Engines he beloved him but Gordon is also a proud confident engine and surely he would know, it is also extremely boring. Percys New Whistle, 2/10 I used to love this episode when I was about 10, however at 16 it is really bad. Wonderful review. I've never had the DVD, nor have I seen all the series 8 episodes, and I would rather collect "complete series" DVDs, but I can see what you mean there...about over half the episodes being bad.
And for "Squeak, Rattle, and Roll", besides there being no crashes, Thomas is nowhere to be seen in that story, since he's supposed to be "the main centric character" for some of the stories. Thomas was supposed to appear in "Squeak, Rattle, and Roll", but I guess he was cut, due to time constraints. But it's kinda good that Thomas doesn't appear, because a lot of stories doesn't need to be about him all the time.

Good thoughts And while I don’t hate the new series I do agree with you on the subject of the new series though I don’t think Thomas should be super fast paced like bwba but at the same time the show shouldn’t be 100% slow paced either In fact one of the biggest problems I have with the new series it that it’s trying way too hard to be like the classic series but it lacked the charm that made the classic series work to begin with Then again if Thomas was acquired by classic media instead of hit maybe the new series could have more interesting ideas and better writing

I saw this dvd at my babysitters house and I watched it thinking it was a classic series dvd (cuz the cover mainly shows classic images). When I actually watched it, I was okay with what I saw since season 8 is just really average. Srsly tho please do it’s great to be an engine that dvd is nostalgia to me!

On the topic of angelis's narration I don't hate it. The whole hit era for angelis was his weakest work and he did get better in season 13-16 imo.

I got a shitty s8 DVD on Christmas 2019 called steamies vs diesels and has the following episode Percy's new whistle squeak rattle and roll Thomas to the rescue and henry and the wishing tree and omg this dvd sucks even the bonus features Sodor sounds and steamie or diesel DVD GAME and spencer is a steamie but the bonus feature it says he's a diesel

I honestly like Season 8. The Models look a lot nicer, the music is cool (especially Thomas’ season 8 theme and Gordon’s season 8 theme), however there are some problems with season 8. I don’t think Henry’s wishing tree isn’t cannon (in my opinion).

As a Thomas Fan myself I grew up with All aboard with the steam team VHS so I’m quite nostalgic to it to be honest
