B has been creating mini ones with sticks, branches & rocks on her afternoon walks with Jack. There's a few washouts above the dam behind the house that she's concentrating on at the moment. It will be interesting to see how they went after the rain over the past few days.

Lovely tour. You will have no shortage in your wood supply that's for sure. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the quarry was, what about the gold !!! Looks like a good spot to do some test pans if you can spot any quartz rock. A tractor or a backhoe for your property wouldn't be any luxury. Thanks for the tour, loved watching it. 👍

    • @BitsOutTheBackFarm

The tadpoles are an introduced pest species we'll be trying to catch & dispatch Payton. They are from the cane toad that was introduced to control the sugar cane beetle but went feral instead.
B wants to do a video explaining all about them & showing off a trap once we get some time to shoot it.
Cheers & have a top one.

Would have been cool to see GPS map (or similar) as you went around, gave better indication of size, bearing. Hate to think what non-eviro friendly stuff they buried.
Re: Drive, u may have better material there, our block is fairly sandy, so used recycled asphalt.
More comfortable + less corrugation created if tyre pressures ~20psi on tracks.
Goat meat has become popular, will clean a lot of that crap up.
Surprising no birds around, especially in the billabong.
    I see B likes back seat driving😉

    • @BitsOutTheBackFarm

Mapping will be done once we have the ability to do so. A drone will help with that but it's low on the list at the moment. We do have loads of birds around. Found most disappear as soon as Jack goes running through the bush though. 🤣

Thanks for the tour. I subscribed a few weeks back, after youtube recommended you. Not watched your videos before then. I love your property. Reminds me of where I grew up in the, then, rural areas outside of Darwin. Just needs a heap of pandanas, paperbarks, and speargrass and my backyard growing up was pretty much the same. 😊 Including the pig wallows, just add buffalo ones and croc spots (buffalo wallows a croc takes over and resizes to fit its needs), a lagoon instead of a billabong, and I'm home. 😂
Really looking forward to what you guys get up to. Hubby and I have been discussing going off grid since before we got married (20 odd years back). We were thinking around Bundy or Gympie when we lived in Brisbane... but moved to the Adelaide hills some time back, so hunting here instead. I'd say we'd be drier here, but not as humid and no cane toads. So I hope to learn a lot watching you're set up, see if it helps remind me of growing up as a bush kid up north, and inspire me to find the right bit of land to go off grid on. For now, living on the edge of suburbia (slowly being surround by new builds on farm land 😞) in a large country town, aiming for urban off grid homesteading for now. Lovely to "meet" you both - Janis.

    • @BitsOutTheBackFarm
      @BitsOutTheBackFarm  9 місяців тому +1

Hi Janis. Am glad you're liking the videos so far. We're not sure if we'll end up off grid here yet but I'm thinking it could be a possibility. With the 5kW solar that's already on the roof & the extra surface area on the sheds we could use I think we could generate more than what we need.
Sounds like you have a childhood growing up many of us dreamed of. My time on a farm as a kid was a lot more tame than buffalo & crocs. 😅
Hope you & yours have a fantastic Chrissy / break.

Thanks for the tour R & B. You are allowed to clear fence lines for blue zoning. 10 metres for external fences and 6 metres for internal fences. There is also consideration for existing infrastructure such as buildings and roads.

The biochar is a great idea to make use of the timber you're clearing but make sure to drop enough on the ground to feed the forest while you're working through. I always remember a quote from I think Geoff Lawton saying "a forest feeds on a fallen forest" 😁 give to the land and it'll give back to you
