When I discovered the Felice Brothers in ~2009 or '10, I couldn't listen to anything else for more than a YEAR. Nothing compared. I'm more balanced now, but they are still just about perfect. This song especially.
I was exactly like this. Don’t Wake the Scarecrow, Lou the Welterweight; etc …I drove everyone mad lol
I really dig how the references to the dying grandmother show up in different verses. The listener is invited to connect the dying breath, the secrets, the mourners, and the ashes. So nicely done.
I love this song , how underrated are the felice brothers ❤❤
Criminally underrated!!
Forget Tyler Childers and Sturgill, these boys were the first to speak me. This is honest, vulnerable appalachia at its finest.
Very true.
Agreed, I've honestly tried to get hooked on those guys, but lost dog street band and ben tod, and especially felice brothers get me. Dont get me started on natalie merchant though
Hi, I don't know much, can you explain if you mean actual Appalachia or....something more in feel. The Catskills aren't Appalachia, are they?
@@nspector "The Catskill Mountains, also known as the Catskills, are a physiographic province of the larger Appalachian Mountains, located in southeastern New York."
@@aydenkw5519 Hi, thank you. I see that if I google the question, this comes right up. Strange I didn't do that back when I asked. I don't normally ask questions that I can just find on Google....Anyway, thank you!
These guys just showed up on my radar. I’m blown away. Shockingly good.
APPARITIONS IN THE NEIGHBORS HEDGES!!!! Great quote!!!
So good ...
What a line !
If you can't relate to this song, then what life have you led?
Amen
Ridiculously good
What a wordsmith.
one of the best songs I've ever heard.
I absolutely love it, what a wonderful, moving song
Another great song by this band. Keep them coming please!
Saw 'em yesterday- INCREDIBLE! If you get a chance to hear them live- take it!
Sounds like a morose John Prine, and I'm all here for it.
This is better than the version on the album, makes me mad these guys aren't more well known.
Simply beautiful.
Thank you
Beautiful. How did I never hear this song until today (by chance) ?
Felice Brothers was the last gig I saw before lockdown...has kept me going in the long wait for more live music. just stunning, ramshackle and tight at the same time, compelling lyrics, this song is beautiful.
Me too, Brighton UK
I've met both Ian and James at a show and they are probably the most genuine dudes I've ever met in a band. They are all about the music and nothing else. I hope I can catch a few more shows in the future.
The song of the year. Gorgeous stumbling Xs
Gorgeous song.
Heard this for the first time on Mark Knopfler’s XM’s Sirius British Grove Broadcast. Really good.
Saw them live in Seattle. By far the best show I have ever seen.
That's one of the best things I've ever seen :-)
If Bob Dylan wrote that song people be going mad how good it is.
Bob Dylan hasn't written a song this good since 1967.
@@MikeCox1 comon lets say since 1990
@@MikeCox1 Bob Dylan doesn't need to write another good song. It's kind of like saying that Paul Simon or Jimmy Page haven't written a good song in decades.
@@jcc2917 my comment was not a dig at Bob Dylan, it was acknowledging what a great songwriter Ian Felice is. Perhaps I'm too enthusiastic.
@@MikeCox1 Nah man, it's cool. I like your enthusiasm! I was just saying it's kind of a mute point is all. Also, just for the record Bob Dylan wrote Not Dark Yet in 1997 which bests this song in every way imaginable. Listen to it on youtube if you get a chance. And as for the old stuff, Dylan transports you, has you rapt. How many songs have an atmosphere like North Country Fair? It's other worldly, ethereal and has that rare, special magic that only a very few musicians are lucky enough to posses. Ian is a very good lyricist and a decent songwriter but by no means a Bob Dylan or a Leonard Cohen lyrically or as a songwriter.
Made me very emotional for some reason
Me too. Bringing up childhood stuff, trips to the 🇺🇸 , everything hahaha. So beautiful and kinda sad
Love this band.
Amazing... this song... it s seems Town van zandt. I love you !
Wonderful.
Damn.. this is so bittersweet to me.
Amazing song, amazing band
Absolutely love it❤️
