  • paulw7uk chess. this is 10-min rapid chess on lichess.org.
we had a relatively poor game for this one with the post game engine review saying we played 75% v 71% accuracy and a number of mistakes each. we had 1 blunder when we missed a forced mate in 2 but otherwise were actually level or better the entire game, but not good quality.

Hey master, do you think I would improve more reading books or following a plan of playing, analyzing, games, do tactics, etc?
    Note: i am a 1400-1500 elo player

books still have a place if you have something specific to read, like a particular opening. but much easier these days for young players to learn by playing online as much as can. the more time you can play but with a portion of your time in study mode, the better chances to improve. try to find an opening with each colour that you enjoy the most and play same opening over and over and over, i.e. try to learn 1 opening well rather than lots of openings not so well.
you may be able to play 1 hour a day or 8 hours a day, the more free time you have the better your chances, but whatever time you have, it you spend a bit of that time on the study bit, not just playing, so play back through games to learn from mistakes, some time to do lots of puzzles, maybe a few hours a week, for example, they help a lot with pattern recognition. so yes bit of everything. good luck

@@Paulw7uk great! Thanks so much, should the games be classical 30min+? Rapid 15min+? Blitz 5min+? What do you think is better for improving, I guess fast games dont help much

really whatever you enjoy the most. rapid is a nice balance, not too drastically slow but still 20-min per game. 3-min blitz is good for playing a lot more games, but still thinking time, whatever suits you best and your spare time, but probably pick 1 and stick to it, repetition, over and over again.
