Most may not know this, but the First Take we're listening to was a work-lead; her first time thru the song to get the "feels" in place. Ohhh Karen had the extraordinary Gift of flawlessly & accurately interpreting the vocals, exactly how the composers intended.
Saturday was the 40th anniversary of her passing. hence all the interest in your post. There were several articles on yahoo about her drumming also. I still remember the day she died so clearly. I was a junior in high school. Still an incredible loss. The only thing is now her great friend Olivia Newton-John is with her again. This is a work lead from the album Horizon. They didn't continue work on it as the album had too many ballads. Richard rediscovered it and it was released a little over 20 years later.
Thanks for the reaction. Looks like you haven't reacted to these, all of which I'd recommend: Solitaire (possibly Karen's best vocal), Desperado (an album cover of the Eagles' song on the Horizon album), and If I Had You (a more jazzy Karen - was on her solo album but remixed & put on the Carpenter's Lovelines album). I also love Road Ode and Mr. Guder.
You have done so many Carpenter reactions and I love them all. What I would suggest is probably more appropriate for next Christmas - Their Christmas Portrait album is my go to holiday music. My 2 fave songs: The Christmas Waltz, Merry Christmas Darling. To add these to your calendar, or whatever, do them now; I wouldn't mind 😅.
I stopped following your reactions quite a while ago and now I know why. You should research information on the songs. David Pomeranz wrote the song and Barry Manilow had a top 10 hit with it in 1976. Karen simply did a cover. Karen's music is all about her voice.

Written by David Pomeranz and made famous by Barry Manilow in 1976. The Carpenters covered it the next year and it became a hit again!
A really good one of theirs is “Road Ode”
FWF - Excellent as usual. A definite favorite to add to your list - "(A Place To) Hideaway."
