Returned home from the funeral of my wife's young brother to find our Kohler toilet running and running ..... just what I did not need. Thanks to a moment of calm ... I found your video .... a quick run to our local hardware store that had the genuine yellow Kohler gasket on the shelf .... another calm look at your video .... and one less aggravation in life in less than 15 minutes. Thank you .... your knowledge, and taking the time to post a nice and easy full description is greatly appreciated.
Thank you! LOVE how you demonstrate the little twist to detach the canister without saying a word. Language barriers be damned! Great video! Like others here, I knew that rubber gasket was the issue. I didn't know how I was going to get to it. You rock.
Amazing that this was done in complete silent with hand signals in 8:23, 2:00 minutes to remove flush valve seal and 12 minutes to Lowes and back for another two 2 minutes to install...DONE! For a savings $75-$100. Thanks a million!
Thank a bunch! The guys at HD were telling me its a big job..take everything apart...I figured if I find a simple YOuTube tutorial..with all my education I can follow....got the seal and follow you step by step...simple and logical...the first UA-cam posting that really made a difference in our daily life.....THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!
Was watching TV and heard running water coming from the bathroom. Shxx its late I never fix this kind flush valve before. I hurried onto youtube to find a fix and I saw "roluardo" my life savvier. I was able to fix it in 10 minutes.. Thank you roluardo.
Watching this video really help me change the Seal on the Canister Flush Valve... Look like it would have been a really hard task... but did it with ease in less than 5 minutes...Thank you so much....
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I never had to fix a Kohler before and wasn't used to the mechanism. Your video was concise and to the point. I saved over $100 in plumbers fees.
Great info. With a $7.00 new seal and this video I am a home repair champ. Detaching the cylinder at the bottom was the key piece of knowledge. I initially tried this on my own and felt like I was breaking something. Many thanks!
Thank you so much for your video Roluardo, the toilet had a hissing noise from time to time and I didnt know why it was happening. I've changed the gasket in the pump 2 months ago which I found the solution in youtube also, saved me money and the annoying noise of water running out. Now with your help I've got the solution for the other problem. Thanks a bunch!!
Had to say thank you and your video is right to the point. Tried to do it prior to watching and did not want to break the plastic thing in the middle. So happy to see how you removed it from the bottom. Thanks again.
Same. The plastic 'stalk' just didn't feel like it would come loose without shattering. Then, I saw you do it in the video and I was like "oohhh..." and mine came right loose. After that it's a 30 second gasket replacement and no more drip drip drip down the drain.
After removing the tank and finding out the flush valve is non standard I almost had a heart attack. But after searching online and coming aross your video I felt much better. Just flipped the seal and voila'. A new one is in the mail. Like everyone else said, thanks a bunch for helping out the community. Also, totally loved the silent style.
Thanks so much for this video. Bought a part from Home Depot for $5.98 and it fit like a charm. Couldn't figure how to get that stem off till I watched this video. You saved me from a nice plumber bill for sure. Happy New Year!
Same issue here! Illustration on the new seal package pictured removing only the top "disc" (where the water tube connects,) not the entire valve stem from the bottom. Probably would have broken the d@mn thing if I hadn't watched this video, thank you!!
Thank You for the tutorial. I was able to get the seal from my local Home Depot and install it in less than 30 minutes (including the drive to the store and back) Very easy. Saved me an expensive call to the plumber.
Thank you for this. I could not figure out how to remove the post to get to the seal until I saw your flick of the wrist method. I was thinking of breaking the thing and replacing it all. This saved me time and money.
Perfect!! I'm female, almost 70 and was able to easily reverse the seal, clean the mating surface and stop the leak. Will probably go ahead and replace all 3 seals in the house just because it's probably time and easy to do. Well done and for any language!!
I bought this new water closet back in January 2015 for my mother in law because it is taller. Just got a high water bill and this video showed me why! Thank you for posting this video. Scott
This video helped me save money!! I was able to take out the canister and found that the valve seal had just dislodged. I put it back in and now it works great.
Thank you very much. Great job at how simple you've explained it. The best part was unscrewing the canister from the bottom. It made the job so much easier!
Thanks, the diagram to replace the seal does not show the turning of cylinder shaft to release canister. You were a godsend and saved me bucks.............thks, Randy
Great video - right to the point. I was dreading the repair of my newfangled toilet, and your video demonstrated that it is an easy fix. I'm sure I would have broken something had I not watched it in advance.
Thank you for the video. I had a brand new toilet and it kept running so I did not need to replace the gasket that you are replacing but this video showed me how to take it off and I realized the leak was coming from the screw in bottom part. I just had to turn it a little to re-seat it.
Other videos showed removing the top instead of from the bottom and bingo! Saved me a lot of trouble because I could have broken the top. THANK YOU SO MUCH
Like Joe said....thanks for miming the exact motion of how to get the centre valve out. I felt pretty confident about this new fangled toilet maintenance. Much appreicated.
Very helpful. Thanks. Impressive that you did it one-handed while filming with the other. Worth watching just for knowing which way to turn the shaft in order to disconnect it.
Fantastic video. Seriously.... just what I needed. The only thing I could add is a clarification. When you place your hand under the valve, you actually have to apply a lot force. At least I did. I suspect it is because of scale build up from our hard water. Again, great video. Thank you for this.
Thanks for the video! I thought started pulling my hair thinking I would have to call a plumber for something that was so simple. No voice over, no problem; video says it all and very helpful! I off to home depot or lowes.
+Vincent Valcin How often do you have to replace this seal? 3-4 years or every year... Is this a good type of design compared to a typical flush valve with flapper on top? (Keeney k835 for example)
What happened to the days of the old Kory Flapper? Thanks to this video it was easy to replace but getting tithe part at the local hardware store was a real pain. It had to be ordered which lent another trip. Can't make money with all the trips and Today's fuel expense.
Do these usually come with the base that connects to the toilet ? Know how to tighten that piece back onto the triangle hole? Tried by hand but still leaks.
Well done. Thanks for posting. Quite helpful. I like the ending. Took me a while just to figure out what mine was called (Canister). As I follow your lead I'll probably try to do it with one hand tied behind my back now. ;-) (again, well done)
1:56 Nice way to indicate 1/4 turn. Pretty funny, but somehow I got the point... Watching all the canister videos. I'm looking replace the old flapper valve with a canister if I can. It looks like a much better design.
How often do you have to replace this seal? 3-4 years or every year... Is this a good type of design compared to a typical flush valve with flapper on top? (Keeney k835 for example)
This was the million dollar question. I have not been happy with this design due to the seal needing replacement in less than 5 months. I got the new yellow one and that one didn't last 6 months and it was leaking again. Back to the drawing board for Kohler.
I replaced the seal on the canister, but the seal on the gasket below the canister is falling off, causing the toilet to occasionally "top off". How do I replace the seal under the canister seal??
Hold on! Not so fast!Don't trust the stop to cut off the water flow. When I had this issue I found that my angle stop was letting water dribble into the toilet and down the defective flapper even though nothing could be heard. I kept assuming the water was completely off when it wasn't and I couldn't find the responsible toilet.I knew water was coming from somewhere because I could see the tiny continuous stream into the septic tank.
The tube keeps popping out of the canister. Any ideas how I can fix that? It's a relatively new (couple years old) toilet in the second bath and I basically need to hold the tube in when I flush, which is a huge pain.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE UA-cam VIDEO EVER! No nonsense jibba jabba... just straight to the point with visual cues and titles. SUPER DIG! Thank you!

Thanks a lot for posting this video. I fixed my leaky toilet in less than 10 minutes because of this video. You saved me a big plumbing bill.
you just saved me $85 and time to wait for a plumber to troubleshoot something i did in 2mins! thanks!
Was watching TV and heard running water coming from the bathroom. Shxx its late I never fix this kind flush valve before. I hurried onto youtube to find a fix and I saw "roluardo" my life savvier. I was able to fix it in 10 minutes.. Thank you roluardo.
Your video helped this girl out tremendously!! Two toilet gaskets replaced in under 10 minutes. Thank you so very much for your brilliant tutelage. (:

This is the best presentation of a repair that I have seen online!

saved me from breaking the canister, this was much easier than the instructions on the back of the new seal. Thanks!
Thanks so much for this video. Bought a part from Home Depot for $5.98 and it fit like a charm. Couldn't figure how to get that stem off till I watched this video. You saved me from a nice plumber bill for sure. Happy New Year!

A simple twist of the mechanism; who'd know? Thanks for your video; saved me having to replace the entire canister assembly!

just wanted to say thanks for such a clear & simple video.
I fixed my toilet myself with just a 6 dollar rubber gasket- thanks!
Thank you very much. Great job at how simple you've explained it. The best part was unscrewing the canister from the bottom. It made the job so much easier!
Very well made and very helpful video. I did this repair in about 5 minutes thanks to the video.
Thanks, the diagram to replace the seal does not show the turning of cylinder shaft to release canister. You were a godsend and saved me bucks.............thks, Randy
Would not have figured out how to remove the canister without your video. Great job. Thank you!

Thank you! Yeah! Fixed with flipping it over and now ordering. I LOVE the mute presentation. Very clever.
Thank you. Much simpler than I would have thought. Very thorough.
Thanks for the simple video. Just what we needed to get the job done.
Other videos showed removing the top instead of from the bottom and bingo! Saved me a lot of trouble because I could have broken the top. THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thank You very much. I was getting upset I couldn't get to the valve seal until I saw the Flick of the wrist. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for this, it was EXACTLY what I needed, couldn't find instructions, you saved the day! Thanks from a fellow fix-it "gurl".
Like Joe said....thanks for miming the exact motion of how to get the centre valve out. I felt pretty confident about this new fangled toilet maintenance. Much appreicated.
Thank you so much! You saved me money by not having to call a plumber!!
Thanks for the video, I purchased the rubber seal three months ago and it took me 15 minutes to install it. Thanks
Thank you! Finally, after weeks of intermittent running, my Kohler is quiet!
Thanks for posting this - you saved me about $150 versus hiring a professional. Cheers!
Very helpful. Thanks. Impressive that you did it one-handed while filming with the other. Worth watching just for knowing which way to turn the shaft in order to disconnect it.

Very clearly explained & shown ! .... reversing the seal worked perfectly for me - and will order a new seal meanwhile. Thank You !
thx for great info, following gasket instruction and almost broke shaft where you turned at bottom. Thanks for your efforts😁
Thanks for posting this simple video. I figured if you could do it with one hand I can definitely do it myself. lol! Thank you
Thanks for showing how to replace the gasket. I put in a new one from Koehler and it works like a charm.
Thanks for the video! I thought started pulling my hair thinking I would have to call a plumber for something that was so simple. No voice over, no problem; video says it all and very helpful! I off to home depot or lowes.
Replacement seal purchased and completed an easy install in less than 15 minutes. Thanks again for the tutorial; much appreciated!

+Farzad Fani Pakdel yes its great, I love it
thanks for posting, turning the stem counterclockwise was what I needed to know.
I took your advice and reversed the seal, surprisingly it worked.
Thank you for this. First time for everything so proud of myself and grateful for the easy quick instructions.
Thanks for your video!!! It helped me fix the seal in my toilet. That thing has been a nuisance for weeks now!
Awesome quick fix - love the one hand work!!!
thank you so much! I was looking at this flush valve like WTF... never would have figured that out.
Thanks, I wasn't sure how to get the mechanism off. Thought I'd have to take the tank off.
Good tip about reversing the washer. I will get a new one in the morning at home depot.
Saved me $100 and time, Thank you!
needed this tidbit of info, the twist was the big tip for me! Thank You
Same here wasnt sure how to get the stem off w/o breaking it, U Rock!!!
Thanks. Had trouble figuring it out myself. The video was perfect!
Thanks for posting this. I too wasn't sure how to remove the shaft from the base.
Thanks. Had a new seal but picture showed removing the canister by twisting from the top and not the bottom as you showed. Saved the day.
What happened to the days of the old Kory Flapper? Thanks to this video it was easy to replace but getting tithe part at the local hardware store was a real pain. It had to be ordered which lent another trip. Can't make money with all the trips and Today's fuel expense.
Thank you so much for your video. very easy to follow and solved my problem very quickly. thank you so much for helping
Just what I needed to fix my leaky Kohler!
Do these usually come with the base that connects to the toilet ? Know how to tighten that piece back onto the triangle hole? Tried by hand but still leaks.
OK, thanks for the video, and I love the delicate way you do the job, freakin' hilarious!!
What a thorough video, excellent!
Not being a plummer I tried this and would recommend it to any novice plummer.
It is easy to do.
Thank you for your video! Saved so much time and money! :-)
Thanks I was ready to take toilet apart! No idea how to fix 😀 will get to it now
Thank you! I was trying to spin it off from the top and knew I would break it if I forced it.
Great information. It worked. Lowes has the part for $4.98.
Thanks for your video. I was wondering how to detach the plastic shaft.
Well done. Thanks for posting. Quite helpful. I like the ending. Took me a while just to figure out what mine was called (Canister). As I follow your lead I'll probably try to do it with one hand tied behind my back now. ;-) (again, well done)
I have been wondering how to get that thing off thanks.
Nice video, just what I needed to fix the pesky seal!
YES! This is exactly what I needed. Thanks a bunch for the video!
There's another washer under the gasket. Any idea how to replace that one?
Thanks a ton. What I needed to see.
Couldn't figure out how to disconnect the cannister w/o breaking it, THANKS!!!!!

Mob Man this kit looks a little different its better than the original. Works great. top by the white foam where it broke is different.
I should have viewed your video first. Would have saved me a trip to the hardware store. Nicely done.
I replaced the seal on the canister, but the seal on the gasket below the canister is falling off, causing the toilet to occasionally "top off". How do I replace the seal under the canister seal??
