Had to come back here after hearing about the passing of Greg Gumbel. One of the most underrated announcers and on of the best pregame show hosts of all time. May he RIP.
I am so sad, hearing of his passing. He WAS Selection Sunday, to me. That voice will always be iconic. He was extraordinary. He will be sorely missed. 🙏
Gumbel is so underrated. Has great respect for the moment and his voice is so exciting. Weather he’s in the studio for March madness, or calling a game in the AFC, he’s always a great listen!
Came here to here his voice again. I think we all took him a little for granted - you knew you were going to hear a well called event no matter the sport. He seemed well versed and up to speed on everything he ever worked, always competent and professional, what more can you say, RIP.
I’m 30 years old and have watched football since I was 6 years old. Greg was literally the sound of football for me considering I’m a patriots fan. Rip to a legend
The world’s greatest sporting event, March Madness, will never be the same without Greg Gumbel. He was one of the best. And his call for the Mile High Miracle was sufficiently thrilling. 💜 RIP Greg and RIP Jacoby Jones
Such a tremendous loss. This man was part of the soundtrack to my childhood. Football broadcasts just won’t be the same without your iconic voice. RIP to one of the best to ever do it ❤
Thank you for all the memories, all the football naps. You helped raise multiple generations and there's one less great man in the world today. Hope to see you in Glory big bro
Great announcer and even better studio host. He did it all. Even called some NCAA Tournament games from the early 90’s that didn’t make this list. I was hyped when 2K had him on the College Hoops series for their Selection Show 2k6-2K8.
Damn this brings sooooooo much nostalgia. Just watched it twice. Thanks for the memories, rest in peace, glad to know you left with grace and in peace next to your family.
I think that 2012 AFC divisional game between Baltimore and Denver was the greatest game he ever called. He was absolutely on point during that game. I’m a little surprised that his call of Loyola Marymount trouncing Michigan in 1990 didn’t make it onto this list. And selfishly, I kind of wished that Patrick Mahomes 50th touchdown in 2018 would’ve made this list. It was nice to see some of the college baseball on here, but he did some MLB postseason, and I’m surprised some of that didn’t make it on here. He was a highly underrated broadcaster, and a very versatile one at that. I feel like a part of my childhood has died today…
I always intended on making a second part to this, but, as is the case with everyone, life gets in the way and I kept putting it off and putting it off. I think I'll start on it now.
Man that voice brings back some Great memories. You know there will never be another John Madden, Cope, or Pat, I gotta put your partner dan in there, my life will never be the same Truly gonna be missed
Had to stop in and hear his great announcing that I have heard countless times. Really saddens me to hear the news of his passing. RIP Mr Gumbel you will be sorely missed.
Absolutely devastated to hear about his passing. For someone that first started watching football in the late 90s as the fan of an AFC team that played on CBS, Greg was and still remains my favorite NFL broadcaster and you simply cannot think about March Madness without thinking of Greg. May he RIP, and may we all appreciate how much joy he brought us over the years.
Pieces of my childhood are slowly fading away.. RIP Greg Gumbel... whether it was the nfl or college basketball.. you were always sharp and called great games...
Watching in tribute on the passing of an all-time sportscasting legend. Rest in peace, Greg Gumbel, and condolences to the Gumbel family and his longtime colleagues at CBS Sports.
R.I.P Greg Gumbel he was one of the greatest, it didn't feel like selection Sunday till Greg Gumbel came on to start announcing the selections he will be missed
Finds room, still on his feet….the 50, the 30……the 10 --TOUCHDOWN! I’m thrilled that he is still in the booth doing play by play. I wish he would do the nba. Albert, Costas, Gumbel, Lampley, Tom Hammond, Verne Lundquist, are so legendary!
