I remain astonished that here in VA, where we proudly call ourselves a Commonwealth, and the common good is written right into our state constitution, Republican leaders consistently choose not to enact polices that benefit the common good. Years and years of steadfastly refusing to take Medicaid expansion because it's "handouts from the government", for example.
The same can be said for the “lone wolf” trope. A lone wolf isn’t alone because it wants to be. A lone wolf is a disadvantaged wolf. It’s vulnerable to larger predators and, because it can’t take down larger prey by itself, has to spend more time hunting smaller animals or scavenge kills by other animals. And any injury could be a death sentence, since he doesn’t have the safety net of the pack to sustain him while he heals. Social networks are incredibly powerful tools for survival.

My 10th great grandfather Richard Warren signed the Mayflower Compact, with him was John Cooke, my 1st cousin 11x removed. I appreciate that they persevered as without them I would not be here today, but they were just men, infallible like the rest of us.
As a child I loved the Little House on the Prairie series. Your talk here brought me back to those stories, and made me realize how much that series idealizes the same "rugged individualist" where the father kept moving "his" family further west where there were fewer European settlements. Myth then, myth now.
There exists a television show “Wagon Train” (1957-65) that demonstrates these stories. Everyone had a place and skills for the purpose of mutual survival.
I would love to see how many of these GOP leaders qualify as "rugged individualists" with no help from a rich Daddy, the government, or anyone except themselves. I did much of the work myself, but I could never have made it without them.

Most people don’t know any better, nor do they try to learn or do better.
Love the reminder in the intro that at the time Britain still hadn't accepted defeat in the Hundred Years War and still claimed France.
The arrogance of individualism is what's gonna sink this country (if it hasn't already).
POWERFUL ❤
Happy 🦃 Turkey Day to all my friends in the U.S. of A! 🇺🇸 I hope lots of you visit this weekend. Our dollar is only worth around 71 cents right now compared to yours, so come on by and do all your 🎄 Christmas shopping. 🇨🇦
Thanks, Belle. Many blessings to you and the whole team.
Thank you Beau for your channel. Hope you are gently feeling better. From Australia, grateful for my many American friends, wishing you all the safest possible road ahead for the next 4 years.
Thank you for the commentary, Belle.
I'm thankful for you being here Shawn!
@victoriajohnson-parratt6975 Good morning.
See you in 2 minutes.
Happy Roads Belle and internet folks! 👋🏻🦃💓
Thank you for this refresher course, Belle and team; it's been many years since I've looked at the Compact. And thank you for pointing out that "individualism" was just not a thing back then; people depended on each other, as they still do. I hope you and Beau and everyone are having a tasty day.
Good morning Ms. Belle and internet folks. Happy Thanksgiving.
Happy holiday Mark!
My 10th great grandfather Richard Warren signed the Mayflower Compact, with him was John Cooke, my 1st cousin 11x removed. I appreciate that they persevered as without them I would not be here today, but they were just men, infallible like the rest of us.
Thank you, Belle. Happy Thanksgiving to you, Beau, and your family🦃🥧❤️❤️
Even Bass Reeves had a compadre!
As a child I loved the Little House on the Prairie series. Your talk here brought me back to those stories, and made me realize how much that series idealizes the same "rugged individualist" where the father kept moving "his" family further west where there were fewer European settlements. Myth then, myth now.
Happy Thanksgiving Day
To Beau ,Bell and family.
There exists a television show “Wagon Train” (1957-65) that demonstrates these stories. Everyone had a place and skills for the purpose of mutual survival.
Humans are a social species. We can’t survive without one another.
That was a good riff - about time the myth of rugged individualism was addressed. Thanks, Belle!
I'm glad I listen to this channel. Its encouraging so many others do as well.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family; I am thankful for all of your hard work and useful information.
I would love to see how many of these GOP leaders qualify as "rugged individualists" with no help from a rich Daddy, the government, or anyone except themselves.
My parents. the State of Indiana, sand the federal government helped me immensely, and I know it. So did many teachers and coworkers along the way. I did much of the work myself, but I could never have made it without them.
Convoy PQ17 scattered and had the highest loss rate of the Arctic convoys. The 1st Marines at Chosin left no one behind even using transport to bring out their dead and fought free. Or as Franklin put it “Gentlemen, we must all hang together or we will surely all hang separately.”
Happy Thanksgiving to all !
I'm 66 and never heard of Hoovervilles before today. I hope it never comes to us having "Trumpvilles" in the near future.
Just call me “Stranger”.
thanks for the history
thank you Belle
Are you telling me that the Marlboro Cowboy wasn't real???
I'm happy you are doing so well.
