The best Era period!
The 80s beats do tend to sound muffled, listening back. I get what you are saying, Jack. Whereas 70s & 90s music still sounds just as fresh as the songs today. I think it's the difference between analog sound vs. digital sound. 80s went crazy with digital sounds, using computers, prerecorded sounds. 70s was all about live performances, whereas in the 80s, most were lip-syncing their already computer made performances.

U.K. 80s synthpop was very different to US soft rock - Pet Shop Boy’s ‘West End Girls’, Eurythmics’Sweet Dreams’, Ultravox ‘Vienna’, Duran Duran ‘Girls on Film and Human League ‘Don’t You Want Me’ All incredible tracks for starters.
Oh and I have to add Bronski Beat ‘Smalltown Boy’. In the US 80s music was saved by early Madonna with ‘Borderline’, ‘Lucky Star’ or ‘Holiday’
