What I really love about Z-One and his Timelords, is how they don't focus on actually making damages, but how they "reset" the opponent, effectively rewinding time for the duel. Have a full field? Well, bye, shuffle everything. Almost beat me? Nope, back to 4000. Want to set some combo? Bye to all your set cards. His deck is a reflection of the despair and powerlessness he felt in his timeline. Unable to do anything to stop the tragedy he witnessed.

Yusei used the trap card converging whishes to defeat Z-ONE.But this trap card has no such effect that would Force the opponent to Attack during his turn,nor It allows for multiple attacks if the Monster that is target of an Attack Is not destroyed by Battle,which never happenend during Z-ONE last turn,since his Monsters where destroyed by the effect of his own ultimate timelord.Mah makes no sense when they invent effects so that It would create odd anime scenario.
@@erinblue4043 bruh Converging Wishes was an anime-only card for almost a decade. Anime-only cards usually have different effects than the real counterparts. It's just dumb to think that the anime shouldn't do whatever it wants with the cards It creates to be honest.

Z-One really came from future you gi oh where everyone uses handtraps.thats why he can summon lvl 10 monsters and activate traps from his hand.
He got sick of Ash blossom Nibiru and any other op handtraps that breaks the game, so he got back to the past to fix that mistake.
Turns out it wasn’t synchro monsters that destroyed the world... IT WAS HANDTRAPS
That would be a real good plot for a new Yu-Gi-Oh.

Everything about the Mystery of Z-ONE was great... until the writers ruin him that he wasn't Yusei.
I wish he had been Yusei. It would've been the perfect final test to his resolve. Having to literally overcome himself and a seemingly unavoidable destiny. It would also end the show on a really interesting philosophical question.

I actually like the idea of Z-one not being the real Yusei. It meant that he had to give up who he really was, both physically and mentally, for the sake of humanity. It was actually a huge sacrifice if you think about it.
But if you want to be silly, you can describe him as the ultimate cosplayer.
It's good to see someone else agreeing on this.
Also, think about it. If Z-One really was Yusei, then our Yusei would lose the support and faith of the people he's fighting for. He could promise to never be like Z-One all he wanted, but it wouldn't remove the fear and doubt in the people's mind that he could become like that someday. It would undermine everything Yusei would be fighting for at that very moment. Any happy ending after that would be esoteric at best.
Instead, we avoid that by deconstructing Yusei as a symbol of hope and the brighter future in ANOTHER way. Through, someone who clung onto him as a symbol of hope, in a time that fully justified being desperate for any kind of hope. But that grasp on that hope is so flimsy that one failure was enough for Z-One to turn on the symbol he made himself into. It's not the perfect alternative, but it avoids a good ending that's esoteric.
Actually they left many clues implying that he is in fact the real Yusei who made up that cloning story to prevent his younger self from losing hope
@@godot8694 Except, when Z-ONE regales his backstory, it's implied that Yusei and co. were from a period long past, so they couldn't have been alive when all hell broke loose.
And if he IS Yusei, then why does he even need to perform reconstructive surgery and mental reconditioning so that he becomes who he is in looks, thought, and mindset? He didn't fall into despair until AFTER Yusei-fying himself, so why go through all that to become what he already was anyway?
The pre-Yusei-fied Z-ONE also clearly looked way too young and had no trace of having any of his traditional appearance. If aged Z-One still distinctively had Yusei's ridiculous hair, albeit frayed from age, then no way in hell Yusei himself would lose those spikes no matter how old he got. But the fact that Z-One originally didn't means he's clearly not Yusei.

@@reyonXIII First of all we never saw Z-one's face in the flashbacks. Secondly the machine was to prolong his life. We don't know if he really changed his appearance or the exact date or the dark future because it's Z-one's story. He could have said anything he wanted and there's no one to confirm or disprove his words.
Without realizing Zone's whole plan was trying to toughen up 5ds to save the future that he couldn't protect.
Z-one first appeared to be evil. But turned out his goal was the noblest of all. At the end, he even sacrificed himself in place of Yusei.
He really wasn't "evil," just misguided. Pretty much every major villain in 5D's was like that, including the Goodwin Bros.
Now if you watch GX or Zexal, you'll find some real hardcore major villains, evil to the bitter end. Take Darkness from GX as a prime example.
+cameraREDeye I wouldn't even call him misguided. If he hadn't intervened, then things may have turned out the way they did in his timeline. It's possible that the summoning of arc-cradle might have been necessary to get people to heed his warning instead of just calling him a crazy doomsayer.
Yeah in he was not that evil. The true evils are Noah, Bakura, Darkness, Don Thousand. They are pure evil.
I forgot who Noah is, but I still remember how Bakura was damn devil for like more that 150 episodes and how Don Thousand manipulated everything for like more that one thousand years just in order to ressurect and I forgot the rest.

If in a turbo duel they could use field spell cards, another dick move is having Sactuary in the Sky, so Sephylon wound't have any battle damage, and Divine Punishment, to negate anything.

Jason Bourne well I liked it. Probably because I don't know the real translation.
It's rather sad once you realize that Z-ONE, Paradox, Aporia and Antimony/Bruno were only acting on what they believed would be the best course to prevent the chain events that would lead to the disastrous future that all four came from (which is the same ruined future).
Z-ONE: Was only trying to destroy Neo Domino City since the people there in his time were (in his words) starting to overcharge the Ener-D reactors with energy due to the rapid acceleration of Synchro Summons and that the peoples desires were starting to become more selfish. Due to the people of Neo Domino City in his time never changing for the better, the Meklords programming went haywire and started massacring everyone left and right leaving Z-ONE, Aporia, Paradox and Antimony/Bruno as the sole survivors. He felt that this was the only 'right' path until he saw the meaning of Yusei's unending determination to provide a safe and peaceful future no matter how dim the chances were. In the end, he only desired to see the future that Yusei himself would lead but his remaining time alive was harshly cut due to his machine that kept him alive starting to fail. Gave up his life to save Yusei taking note that the future needed Yusei. Far more forgivable than the previous final arc villains and definitely more so than the two proceeding final arc villains Don Thousand (Zexal) and Zarc (Arc V) (both who never even cared about humankind in the first place.)
Paradox: Sees that it was the origin of Duel Monsters that caused mankind to end up in complete extinction. Decides to completely destroy Duel Monsters by killing Pegasus which would result in the mid-late events of DM and all the events from GX and onwards to never take place or cause a drastic change in events happening in GX and onwards. A complete monster who realizes that while humans aren't entirely to blame, are still the ones to blame.
Aporia: Only seeking to bring destruction to Neo Domino City to help accelerate the appearance of the Ark Cradle/Z-ONE. Was originally a peaceful human until the Meklords went on a rampage due to their programming going berserk (read Z-ONE's entry). Opposite of Antimony/Bruno in that he was trying to actively eliminate them while the latter was trying to protect/save them. In the end, Jack's words got to him and in his final moments, tried to show Z-ONE that not all hope was gone by attempting to defeat Z-ONE in a 1-v-1 duel which ended in Aporia's own defeat. Arguably one of the more redeeming characters who was never a real villain but more of a tragic character.
Antinomy/Bruno: His mission was to help guide and accelerate Yusei's ability to steer his timeline into a safer future. Had it not been for his guidance, Yusei wouldn't have been able to realize that there was more to Synchro Summoning and thus would never be able to defeat Placido and definitely wouldn't have been able to make it past Team Ragnarock. His final duel against Yusei was a test of determination, was Yusei worthy to face Z-ONE in a battle to determine the future of Neo Domino City? Had one of the more tragic deaths alongside Z-ONE in 5D's.
So, what if ZONEs goal was never to destroy the city, but only to show them what happens, if they continue their way, as far as I know ZONE was nearly at the end of his lifespawn.
@@lisaruhm6681 ZONE was desperate when he did that. His timeline (5D's 'future') ended up in ruin because humanity fell to greed which caused the Meklords to rampage around (the Meklords were powered by Ener-D in ZONE's timeline.) ZONE probably wanted to prevent his timeline from happening by cutting off the root of it (the present era) unlike Paradox who went to the extreme of killing the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh (Pegasus) with time traveling (which earned him the wrath of Yugi/Atem, Jaden AND Yusei.) When Yusei showed his determination to prevent his era's destruction, ZONE who was about to die, told Yusei that he always wanted to see the bright future that Yusei intended to forge and create. It showed that while ZONE took an extreme path but deep down, he was one of the only survivors of a tragic event and wanted humanity to survive at all costs but he didn't know how to do it. He wanted to become 'Yusei' to give humanity hope even if he knew it couldn't work in the end.
I disagree about Paradox. Unlike his comrades, Hh does not have a deep back story because he only appeared less than 40 min in BBT that took place beforene WRGP. Zone was not even around at that time so producers could not give too much info about Paradox motivation without spoiling the arc Cradle thing. Too bad this one shot character did not somehow reappear in the final season, I imagined he would have redeemed himself and maybe teamed up with Aporia (imagine if Yusei had an explicit flash-back of Judai and Atem when he met Paradox again). Besides, Zone sent him back in time in the first place.
@@DTran-je1sn There was no way Paradox could have returned anyway (at least in the Dub) because during the duel between him and the combined forces of Yugi/Atem, Jaden and Yusei, Paradox specifically mentions that the loser(s) don't just lose the duel but lose their soul(s) aka the duel is basically a Shadow Duel, a duel of you live or you die. Paradox's backstory is basically similar to Aporia but unlike Aporia and Z-ONE who targeted the present era of Neo Domino City, Paradox time traveled back to the far 'ancient' past of when Yugi and Pegasus lived. With Paradox's goal being eliminating the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh! to prevent his own timeline from happening. Basically, Paradox's history is already a given if you've seen the histories of his own allies, just that his mindset is far more dangerous than any other Yu-Gi-Oh! villain to date and he was the closest to retconning the entire anime series starting in what it seems mid-original series had he won the duel.

Z-One is maybe the best Yu-Gi-Oh villain and 5D's is surprisingly well written anime story even without being a part of Yu-Gi-Oh, Z-one is really threathening but not in deranged villanous way, he radiates mystery and power, his theme isn't dark, it's powerful giving you almost feeling of helpless, Yusei was the perfect protagonist to tacke him and it took all of his planning, all of his stoicism not to fall to despair, that's how powerful Zone really is, he doesn't need to constantly remind everyone what kind of powerful entity he is, his presence does that for him and he is damn terrifying without actually being terrifying

Most people who address their turn that way are sophisticated or something, with a good backstory which usually means they are villains. There are notable examples of non-villains who use it though.
Since all Duel Links themes are based on their anime themes hearing this gets me excited and hopeful for Z-one to come to duel links.

Archlord Kristya says hi and no thanks. Infinite Light permits Z-ONE/Z-ONE players to special summon during his/their turns and Archlord Kristya forbids special summons on both sides of the field for as long as she's face-up. Better hope that Kristya doesn't pop up on your opponent's first turn or else you're stuck with Normal Summoning Timelords, one per turn to which your opponent might just be happy to summon Kristya each turn while stalling/negating the effect damage.
Destiny Hero Plasma renders the Timelords useless since it negates the effects of all your opponent's face-up monsters (flip effects become garbage). By this line of logic, GX Aster could be considered a better answer to Z-ONE than Yusei if only due to Destiny HERO Plasma's effect and that Aster himself is a rather intelligent duelist (he nearly beat Jaden in their proper duel and he almost cornered Chazz as well). A well built Destiny HERO deck with Plasma in it can potentially defeat a Timelord deck or at least have an even advantage.
@@bitrel07 Except it's very hard to get both of those monsters out at once. Plus, Kristya is easily countered by Timelords' effects while Plasma can be taken down by Sandaion who happens to have 4000 ATK. Also Infinite Light in the TCG prevents your Timelords from being targeted by effects...
Anime aside (since rules get chucked out the window in the Yu-Gi-Oh Anime so much down to where it's not even funny when looking at a serious duel), getting Kristya out isn't even hard now these days, Plasma just requires getting a good hand which isn't easy. I never said bringing out both Kristya AND Plasma at once, I'm just explaining why both of those cards can serve as anti-Timelord cards when used properly
If Kristya is out Turn 2 which is your opponent's first turn (assuming you only set the three Continuous Traps on Turn 1), you can only Normal Summon a Timelord once per turn and even then you'd run into face-down cards which could halt your attacks. However no one's going to blindly attack a Timelord while they are present without a serious strategy. Kristya's anti-special summon effect doesn't target monsters, it affects the players and any cards that would allow players to special summon (in short, no one can special summon anything once Kristya is in play.)
Plasma's 'anti-opponent monster effects' effect doesn't target and Destiny HERO decks sometimes run some other non-HERO related support. I'm not going to list the possible support options since we could list a lot. While never used due to it being too niche and irrelevant, if your opponent Creature Swapped an Elemental HERO Rainbow Neos to your field than equipped it to Plasma via its effect, that's an additional +2,250 Attack Points to Plasma's 1,700 Attack Power giving it 3,950 Attack Points excluding any boosts from actual Equip SPELLS equipped to Plasma. Have fun using Sandion and Sephylon to run over Plasma.
Still, in TCG, you can't just Sandion/Sephylon trounce players without first considering what the opponent's face-downs could do and what they might be after. TCG Sandion's effect only does 2,000 points of damage after it battles and Sandion can't even inflict Battle Damage unless its effects are negated (which shuts down its main useful effect).

A Ghost Without a Past 2000 ATK points?!
Just finished 5D's for the first time. Going into it I wasn't expecting much, as when I was a kid 5D's first few episodes were where I stopped watching Yu-Gi-Oh.
Oh my lord though what a series. The dark gritty atmosphere, the dark tones with hopelessness & despair, and the insane plot had me binge watching so many episodes at once.
Z-One might legitimately be one of my top 5 favorite anime/manga villains of all time. He was never truly evil, all the man wanted was to prevent his future from occurring and prevent the downfall of the entirety of mankind. He spent countless years of his life doing NOTHING but searching for someway, ANYWAY to reverse what had occurred in his era. His conflicting feelings, how on one hand he attempted to destroy New Domino City to prevent mankind's downfall, while on the other hand committed acts that directly conflicted with his plans (wiping Antinomy's memories, sending Yusei the Shooting Star Dragon card to name a few) all because deep down inside his heart he never lost his hope that a better path was out there. His deck and how much it reflects the utter hopelessness he experienced as the last remaining human in his timeline. His sacrifice to stop the Arc Cradle from falling so that Yusei wouldn't have to do that. And also just how hard he pushed Yusei in their duel, he nearly even got Yusei to give up at one point.
I know people are upset over the whole "he stole Yusei's identity" thing, and while I do agree that itd make for an incredibly interesting plot point if Z-One was actually future Yusei or his relative from that era, its also great for what it is because it shows the lengths Z-One really went in his efforts to save humanity. He was willing to give up his whole identity if it meant inspiring others and providing them with hope, and sacrificing one's individuality is one of the largest sacrifices a human being can make in my opinion.

I think that helping yusei with bruno and card was not against his plan of changing the future, he tried to drop the arc cradle in the city because his lifespam was running out and he just wanted to make sure that his history changes, maybe he wouldn't have took this drastic misure if he had more time

Yusei, the good and caring Yusei, faces a terrible future and comes back to defeat and stop himself from the past: WOW!!!! Then they had to screw it up by saying Z-one was a random scientist from the future who cloned himself into Yusei... Lame...

Crona Schweetz but you know, they chose to not put Yusei or his father as Z-one because this would have hurt the whole Yu-gi-Oh brand. The YGO anime and their protagonists always taught everyone to never give up and always fight for what's right... They are an example to people watching so having Yusei as Z-one means that in another reality, Yusei gave up to despair. Same thing with his dad. His dad sacrificed himself for others... being Zone means he gave up his ideals and everything. While I don't personally like the idea of having Zone as a random scientist from the future, I must also admit that it was the only choice in order to avoid hurting the character of Yusei.
^Thats not hurting, its called character development. Yusei isnt Jesus hes allowed to do wrong and not be perfect. look at Judai he went fucknig nuts and "killed" two of his friends, and caused the "deaths" of four others. Even Atem screwed up from time to time. Besides it was an alternate Yusei so the one we knew and love wasnt responsible.
Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's is not only one of the best Yu-Gi-Oh spin offs. It's also s very damn good anime.

Yeah even though the premise of settling world ending threats with a card game sounds ridiculous, they make it work with careful world building, and fantastic character writing. It’s not perfect but there’s a reason it’s the only card game anime anyone gives a fuck about.

Something I didn’t consider that I think makes Z-one an even more formidable opponent is how each time lord stacks against the Egyptian Gods.
Even by 5D’s they’re still remembered and revered as some of the most powerful cards to exist.
And Z-one has fucking TEN monsters that they can’t deal with. Yusei dueled a guy with 10 god level cards and won. GOAT protagonist.

This Music track is just awesome, I'll always remember this track where Yusei look like he was going to lose from Z-One but then you see Power Tool Dragon rise from the smoke and its eyes glow up red like he's ready to go and then moments later as this track still plays you see the Arc Cradle hitting the Kiaba cooperation building. The Duel between Z-one and Yusei was just so intense because Z-ones deck was just so ridiculous.

While I don't like the idea that Z-One was just some random sap from the future who emulated Yusei to try and save the future I don't think the idea of him being Yusei or his father was any better. Yusei's father appeared and guided and saved Yusei a few times but now here he is trying to destroy the city and everything with 100 KM radius which would effectively kill his son. If I was the last human being I couldn't live with myself killing hundreds of thousands of people even if meant saving billions of others (especially if one of those hundreds of thousands is my son). Z-One being Yusei doesn't work for me because of how much he valued his friends. Normally he's calm, composed, and stoic but he actually gets sad and cries over Kalin and Bruno dying and didn't even want to fight either of them in the first place. Martha was basically his mother, Jack and Crow are his foster brothers/best friends, The Twins are like his younger siblings, and Akiza is possibly his love interest (it's already confirmed she likes him and I think he does like her). I don't think he'd go as far as to kill them even if it meant a better future.
+TheShapeH31 While I also don't hate the idea either, permit me to play devil's advocate for a bit and say he actually WAS Yusei, one broken beyond comprehension. It would highlight just how bad the future was, but at the same time, unwittingly drive present Yusei to become even more steadfast in his faith in his friends. Which pretty much would make it Yu-Gi-Oh Unlimited Blade Works if they went with that plotline.
Another possible good point out of making Z-One an actual future Yusei (note that I said "AN", not "THE" since 5D's is operating on "multiversal theory" like Dragon Ball Z was) was making it a deconstruction of the "saviour" status Yusei has been given since the Dark Signer Arc, in a sense, addressing a common complaint about Yusei's do-all hero status since that arc. Then again, what the writers did go with still addresses his hero status. A man, desperate to save the people around him, saw the power of a great hero of the past and his ability to inspire hope in his fellows, sought his face and power to do no more than exactly just that: save the people around him and give them hope. And it worked....for a short while. The fact that he ultimately fixed nothing, or didn't even give the people long-lasting hope for their survival and the future, that broke him. I personally think it goes a little further than Aporia's backstory as his case is about something personal, though no less heartbreaking, while Z-One wanted to be a genuine hero, actively alleviate and maybe even reverse the crisis of his present...but it amounted to nothing.
reyonXIII No, I don't mind you playing *"Devil's Advocate"* this is one of the more interesting topics that I can think of to talk about with 5Ds. That actually does sound like a good explanation for why Z-ONE could be Yusei and why he's so dead set on destroying Neo Domino city. Yusei (real one) was a legendary hero (probably portrayed as being more heroic than the protagonist before him). and saved and inspired many but he *(Z-ONE)* brought hope and inspired people for a short while but as quickly as he achieved that he lost it and was put in a worse place than where he started that pushed him over the edge that he'd be willing to do *ANYTHING* to ensure that future never happens even going as far (If he wants to keep the Yusei ruse) to kill his family, loved ones, and thousands of people.
Multiverse theories have always been a headscratcher to me, but that's a really good way of looking at it. I myself still don't buy it given Yusei's character and how he portrays himself but it seemed a future like Z-ONE's and what he went through would be enough to break anyone even someone as strong willed as Yusei.

multiversal theory is the time travel theory that Dragon Ball Z uses, among other examples. It's different from butterfly effect in that any significant change to the past doesn't erase the future that is already written. It just creates a new one. Ultimately, after defeating Cell, Trunks doesn't return to a world not ravaged by Androids and the Z Fighters alive. When he returns to his time, all Z Fighters are still dead, 17 and 18 are still more psychotic than their mainline selves, etc. He just made sure that there would be a timeline without the same fate as his.
In the same way, it's clear 5Ds runs on multiversal theory is because any of Yliaster's actions affect nothing of their situations. The most obvious change is Shooting Quasar Dragon vs Cosmic Blazar Dragon. When the former is summoned, Z-one's memories aren't altered. He still remembers that what the Yusei in his past achieved was Top Clear Mind/Delta Accel Synchro, but the mere appearance of Shooting Quasar Dragon is enough to baffle him. And its clear his plan hinges on multiversal theory because there wouldn't be a time, well, paradox, if the Ark Cradle smashed into Neo Domino City. With Neo Domino City destroyed, he'd be creating a timeline that would not result in the rise of the Meklords (blanking on their Japanese name) and the second Zero Reverse

It's Z-one's turn and the final turn of the duel, he draws and gets Sephylon the Ultimate timelord. Now that he had summoned 10 timelords he is able to call forth his best monster with 4000 attack points but they don't stay that way for long as now due to Sephylon's ability he can summon as many timelords as possible from his hand deck or graveyard and now they will all have 4000 attack points. Z-one summons the 4 timelords, Metion, Gabrion, Sadion and Sandion. But this isn't the end due to infinite light's other effects, Sephylon the Ultimate timelord gain attack points equivalent to the combined attack points of all Timelords on the field, bringing his attack points up to 20,000. Now with a 20k monster Z-one uses Sephylon to attack and destroy Shooting star dragon for what looks like it could be game....
