This makes you wonder where Roy's song-writing skills would have taken him had he lived longer. He just seemed to grow stronger in ability with each new Corries release. Great to have this one on UA-cam.
Roy was such a talented musician. He play several instruments. I read he even invented one or two. No one can come close to these two. Folk music lost much.

Battle of Prestonpans. Early morning attack. If the Jacobites could have agreed earlier before setting out on the night before Colluden. Marching all night before the battle. Realising they weren't going to make an early dawn attack to the east of culloden. And about turn and get back to (or near) Inverness to protect the last port under Jacobite hands in Scotland to keep it open to possible French support and supplies it may have been so very different. If you have marched all night and your main attack is to run, drop, fire and run through the smoke towards the enemy then you are going to be shall I say knackered. So the final battle was inevitable. The only battle that Charlie didn't win. Very tribal, you can feel it in your blood. Music which have a deep drum pace like this was probably one of the oldest form of music we had, which definitely predates our own species of human. When hunting large megafauna it is hypothised deep beats and a shared chorus between individuals lead by a lead voice were used, lessening fear and increasing a primal instinct.
