Sorry for the mistakes, these subtitles were hard-coded and I couldn't fix them.

My favorite Resnais film after L'Année dernière à Marienbad. Merci pour le partage.

Reminds me a little of Freud's "Civilization and It's Discontents"

Some arguments can be raised to the content of this fragment of the film Mon oncle d'Amerique (Alain Resnais), but it's worth to be watched and listened to, attentively. We can also learn something about what rats really prefer... That's a matter of debate of Ethics.

It is of course better for our health to express our anger than to repress it. But it has consequences that can be horrible for us in many ways. The second option, escaping, is one we usually have since we aren't a rat in a cage, and is much better.

If one express the rage being in control of what is doing I think is no problem, the problem is to not being in control and harm others and yourself. For me, if one doesn't have the capacity to confront what have caused the harm, he or she has to find a way to express the rage and be able to became not neurotic. Writing, screaming in a isolated place I think could help. But if you escape and not express the anger you are repressing yourself and you are accomplice of what have hurt you.

just expressing your anger isn't really enough. there has to be the illusion that you have received justice and the wrong has been made right.

Good video, I think "violent" reactions are inhibited by society because of fear, but is not healthy to repress our rage. In fact, I think dangerous violence comes from the accumulation of not expressed anger which finally comes out in a out of control and disproportional way. We have to stop being "nice"

personally, i cannot stand that they have tortured these poor rats to prove what people can know by watching humans. Rats don't deserve to suffer due to our human dramas...

There is a lot that we wouldn't know-on a biological level- without experiments like these. We would only be guessing. If you think otherwise, then you simply know very little about the history of medical advancements (all of which I'm sure you benefit from). Nonetheless, Henri mentioned in one of his books his intense dislike of animal experimentation. These very mild shocks (and only 10 minutes per day) are by far one of the least harmful animal experiment there is, too. Put that animal in the wild and I guarantee you it will suffer a lot more than this.

i'll admit i have pet rats, but i believe these are psychological / sociological experiments, these particular experiments will not help cure physical disease, but apparently used for studying behaviors and outcomes (in humans)... i say there are plenty humans with mental stresses, problems. Let scientists study directly from them. its not that difficult to put 2+2 together and figure why people have stress in their lives.

You're obviously scientifically illiterate if you think it's possible to make strides in biology and neurophysiology without experimental data. You might be satisfied with guesswork, but that's just not how science works. Biology is the study of living organisms; you don't learn everything you need to know by simply passively observing. The rats obviously don't "deserve" to suffer, but at the end of the day it's about how much suffering will be prevented if we have more knowledge. You can probably make a strong case that this is hardly necessary anymore except in medicine, but it's just ignorant and short-sighted to claim we never needed to study live models in the first place.

putting humans in such controlled experiments has been deemed unethical. rats are a compromise.
