Mike Tomlin sees ‘no need’ to name Justin Fields PIT's starting QB | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
/ nflonnbc
Tomlin is the coach. If he thinks Santa Claus is the best person to play against the Colts - then Santa better be ready to play.
😂😂😂
Well, I personally think Claus is terrible in the pocket.
@PxThucydides I mean he'll only take one sack to get the job done
Mike Florio really respects Michael Holley. He really takes in what he has to say. There is a lot less looking down at the phone or multi-tasking. And they are both great at reading between the lines.
I like him too. He's a thinker and he was right.
As always, Tomlin is handling the situation perfectly. He's a Great Coach.
Russell Wilson made the media stink in denver last year because of how he was treated.
It was based on the contract strong-arming benching that Denver did.
The situation in Denver is way different than the situation in Pittsburgh.
Russell only QB in history to be sacked 40 times more than 10 seasons.
Denver realized that.
"Arthur Smith's offense fits Justin Fields better than Russell Wilson now."
Didn't this dude have Ryan Tannehill really successful in TEN?
Do you see a Derrick Henry playing for the Steelers? Your comparison is mute
@@beastmode218 the passing game was elite in TEN as well, it wasn't all Derrick
@@WatermelonCat941 LOL no it wasn't
@jacobstrouble6631 elite may be a stretch but tannehill was a very efficient qb under authur Smith. At least to 10 in passing I believe and most of it was play action
Fields take the field ❤
Tomlin is smart not to go with the media narrative. Field hasn’t played a high scoring offense as yet and they have a lot of those games coming after week 4. What if he under performs when he plays against those teams? What would Tomlin do then?
Don’t play Wilson because my bet on him throwing for over 2750 yards will be voided if he doesn’t play in at least 5 games 😂
Low key your bet is safe Russ ain't playing this year😉
@@perryellis1423it’s the nfl and injuries happen
I think it’s crazy to bench Justin as soon as he loses a gane. He’s earned the right to be the starter and even have a few bad games
Don’t worry bro Steelers are smarter than that, for sure they won’t bench him after one loss
That won't happen. He'd have to lose 3 in a row and look really bad. They all have one bad game. We see no sign of that either.
They didn't unload the QB room. They ejected it!
Probably the best thing for them is have Fields improve through the playoffs and not just to the playoffs. Money wise both playing because of injury or some bad play by Fields, and both can win and the question is who wants to be the QB of this playoff team. There are few playoff teams needing a QB and fits your style, if Fields make it to the championship game you will have to deal with him as if you drafted him #1 and it's time to pay.
Is a trade for Waddle in Miami a possibility for Russ? That would be such a game-changer for the Steelers right now.
No.
There is no PR that Russ can use to get whatever he wants in Pittsburgh. The vets on the team wouldn't appreciate that. Tomlin is loved by his players, and it is the reason Wilson came here. As TJ Watt says, we'd run through a brick wall for coach T. US fans wouldn't like it either, Russ isn't Ben Roethlisberger, so there is no loyalty to him in Pittsburgh. Russ's only option is to be a good soldier, and support the team and the quarterback room. He's making $38M so its the not the worst thing to happen to him... The Steelers found their QB1, and it's not the 36 year old guy..
I love it when Michael is on.
Who cares ? It's nobody's business but Tomlin's. Quit trying to cause a controversy that doesn't exist. In case you didn't know, Russell Wilson led the team out of the tunnel this past Sunday.
Well a lot of people forget before dak became qb 1 over tony romo yeah Dak was playing really well but you wouldn't start him over romo because of injury same thing here i think
WTH, Tomlin has already said that Russ is the starter on many occasions and now he is reiterating to you that nothing has changed.
Also, if they play Russell now they could lose that trade value if he looks awful.
where the heck did you guys get that Tomlin pic?
Da-doy. Russ is "injured" & Fields is scared of losing the spot. We winnin', why change?
I wonder how many less than game manager style games Fields needs before Tomlin is supposed to put in Wilson.
5:00 To be fair I do believe the Steelers intention was to kept Pickett after signing Wilson. Pickett wanted out so it led to the Fields trade.
I hope it all works out with Fields long term but I really wanted them to draft Malik Willis later in that draft instead of going for Pickett early
I think they traded for Fields after signing Wilson but didn't know that Fields was available prior to signing Wilson. Would make alot of sense.
The reason your looking for is he can manage the offense better and score more points. His experience...there that's your argument
You guys just refuse to understand that Tomlin is not going to change QB1 until he see Russ on the field leading this team.
Not saying anything lets Russ not give up and think he still has a job to fight for and wants Justin to think he is in the hot seat and could lose the job. Keeps both of them pushing to get/keep the job.
It really sucks that Chris simms isn’t here all 5 days of the week anymore
U crazy or just slow if u don’t think Justin fields qb#1 they just being kind to Russ cause he a veteran but if u hurt u don’t suit up 🆙 for games it’s clear fields the starter and Russ the backup
I agree because Russ has a ego Mike Tomlin doesn't want to say it, because Russ will demand a trade
@@perryellis1423so Tomlin is going to hold Wilson hostage? You people are so dense you don’t even understand the words you type
Maybe Russ asks for a trade but Steelers don't trade during the season.
Maybe the starting position hasn't changed, BUT I bet pole position has! 😂
Dolphins, titans just some names for now desperate for subpar quarterback back.
In other words every team needs two QB’s that can play like QB1
These teams might be desperate for a QB but that doesn't mean they'll get one. Three games in and most teams are set with their QBs.
Justin Fields missed 4 games last year with the Bears with a thumb issue. As well, looking at the point distribution after 3 games: kicker (Boswell) 30 pts vs Fields (21 pts). Shouldn't the QB have more points than the kicker? Maybe Russell is more of an asset than people think. And, remember, the Steelers great defence can makes a QB look better than what they are.
No, he said, I'm not telling you ish
I want to see Justin in no huddle sometimes also want to see both of them in game at same time like the saints use to do screen pass to Fields are go route over the top
Russ is only costing the Steelers 1 m this year so play Fields and have a cheap backup who you let leave at the end of the year.
Coach T loves ❤️ 2.
Naming Fields the starter does nothing. These guys need to focus on working together. Pickett was QB1, what did that get him? NOTHING.
They’re simply just trying not to disrespect Russ.. he’s a vet. Tomlin doesn’t rock like that
Leave it to the white media to tell a Black HOF coach how to run his team smh. They wouldn't never tried that with Bill Parcells or Belichick
We've played a HURT Cousins a ROOKIE and then a Hurt Herbert lol Fields is not why we are winning and we almost lost and could easily be 1-2 if our D was not dominating HURT Qbs
People are all about stats. The only stat that means anything at all is Wins Wins are what make championship teams If you win no matter what the stats you will be a champion in the end
Is Justin Fields continues to produce like years I don't see a problem with trading Russell Wilson to Miami for a one and Tyler Huntley
Produce? He has some of the lowest stats in the league. You mean not screw up
A Wilson trade us possible but it's too early to consider that. Fields has to keep improving and not play like he did with the Bears. Three games does not give you enough to make Fields QB1.
@@raymondrak961 I agree, that's why I said continues to perform
@@PatriotWatchUSA Yet he's outplaying every QB we had on the roster last year
Why you gotta take a jab at baseball and our superstitions? 🤣🤣
If all else fails justin can get it done with the legs
Which is not sustainable. Ask Lamar how he feels
i really hate how Tomlin talks to the media. he never wins in the playoffs, get ihm Aht of here
tomlin is just understands football much better than all these stupid fans. fields isn't good and he's never been good. the steelers have played 3 terrible teams and won with their defense. anybody on offense could have won those games. russ is always going to start when he's healthy because he's clearly the better qb. fields will have a 3 turnover day against the cowboys, and then the transition to russ will become very simple
Eagles beat the saints and atlanta beat the eagles so are eagles and saints crappy teams. U r just a hater. Also atlanta almost beat the chiefs as well. I dont understand the hate toward justin.
@@takinganewapproachpodcast2994 what r u talking about? steelers haven't played eagles or saints, what does that have to do with anything? Nobody has scored more than 10 points against the steelers. The worst offense in the league could win all 3 games. U think u have to hate fields to criticize him, because ur all caught up in the hype and the fantasy pts. I don't hate gardner minshew either but I also know he's a terrible qb. but by your logic, the raiders beat the ravens so that means minshew is better than lamar
Good God… I haven’t seen this many dodges since ‘Dodgeball’ in the 6th grade.
It’s ALL ABOUT the weak ego of Russ. The End.
I might be late but no more simms?
Warriors… practitioners… it’s all smoke and mirrors. I said what I said. 😎
2 Tds in 3 weeks passing LOLOL And the media acts like he is MVP or some shi. A white QB would NEVER get sucked off this much for being a game manager. Our O still been bottom 10 LOL PLaying like this LOL A Bottom 10 O being CARRIED By a top3 D
Justin Fieldsgoal is the same dude as in Chicago. He just is who he is after 4 years. The difference is the coaching staff not trying to get him to play traditional QB.
Sorry, I disagree. He's in a positive situation now in Pittsburgh, with coaches that understand how to get him to grow into it and not being expected to be superman. Chicago put him in bad situations then pretended it was his fault... Not so in Pittsburgh.... and he's getting more comfortable with his reads and holding the ball longer and making better throws. He's getting more confident.... that's Pittsburgh influence
@@DAMillich-lg9mz All complete nonsense. You've played three teams down on their luck. Your defense won all 3 games
NBC hates Tomlin... Look at this headshot... Come on NBC update your pick. Tomlin is bald now. Also, he does have normal eye looks.
Yep, and they've been using that pic for several years now.
Steelers will not win a playoff game with either Fields or Wilson! Tomlin a average NFL coach at Best.
Oh yea, what planet are you living on. Doesn't matter who's under center, the defense will carry this team. They're the best in the NFL and will bring the hammer down on every team they play
Justin Fields has football super powers
lol like what?
The bar is so low for Fields. To be clear, his performance so far has been below what's expected of a full time starter. There is no reason to believe Russ wouldn't perform better, and every reason to expect that he would.
To be clear, that's like... your opinion, man.
@@184Dadada it's not an opinion. Fields has done less than what a starting QB should do and he gets praised for it.
He has completed a high percentage of his passes, has 1 total turnover, and is making good decisions. I don’t understand how that is below average
@@jeffrossi1642 He's undefeated and not turning the ball over. If that's subpar in your mind you don't know football.
@@NickWestcoast his passing yards and TDs are well below average. Based on his performance last season on an objectively worse team you could project Russ to be good for 3k yards and 30 TDs. Fields is on pace for well below that. And Fields has yet to lead a successful 2 minute offense for a TD, some that Russ did several times last year, including multiple game winning 4th Qtr drives.
Three games. Averaging less than 173 passing yards per game. Justin Fields isn't the answer.
Had you listened to the coaches, then you'd have heard them say they didn't want him slinging the ball, especially against the Falcons. 😂
Winning is more important than personal statistics.
O-Line penalties have cost big plays that Justin has made tbf.
Caleb threw for over 350 yards last week. How'd that go for the result of the game?
@johaw105
Exactly, QB putting up numbers but losing is not ideal.
