Everyone's talking about Sebastian and his cute questions but I honestly relate more to the astronaut talking to his kids. "GUYS MAKE SURE YOU SAY HI TO THE WINTER SOLDIER"
He's trying so hard to play it cool but you can see he's just vibrating and screaming inside he's so excited. Course I'd be bouncing off the walls too if I was at JSC. XD I love this kind of stuff!
8:09 The astronaut telling Sebastian "I watched hot tub time machine"... Basically this guy in space knows Sebastian's filmography better than I do. I'm so ashamed of myself.
I don’t know why, but there’s something so satisfying about hearing what Sebastian sounds like over the phone. Can anyone else relate? Or is this just my weird, bizarre me?
Sebastian is like a kid at a Space science fair and good for him getting the exposure to the NASA environment! He's always wanted to be an astronaut from what I understand.
It's awesome seeing Sebastian act like a super fan would toward him at Comic Con. I hope most celebrities see themselves in their fans. Just loving and appreciating their characters or their work, whether as actors or the characters they portray and not just because they're famous.
It's so strange seeing the astronauts and knowing they're actually floating around; it's not a trick of the eye or some kind of wiring. Gravity is so weird. xD
+izzy120391 I was tripping on that when the dude put his glasses on his head, and then had to look up a second later to see if they floated away. No gravity to press them to the skin. heh. Weirrrrrd
mackenzie davis is so cute and talented.. i predict much larger roles for her soon.. in every movie ive seen her in shes stolen the scenes despite only playing side characters.
I really liked this one! Them asking the astronauts personal questions more about how they feel working on the Space Station than how they do it. I'm guessing this was probably timed to give a bit more character to the idea of an Astronaut, especially with their families there, something that it seems The Martian will excel at. I love these interviews, maybe someday I'll get to ask a question!
seriously??? That prank question from Sebastian though. It's like every press conference of the Marvel Superheroes I've ever seen: what are the pranks you guys play on set!?
Its glorious cause its not just any fan role-reversal, he's that fan at the panel that half stumbles through their question they're so nervous and excited to be talking to him. Hes doing that exact nervous-laugh to cover up the "oh god i cant words right now".
Can I just say this is literally the coolest thing? Like they've got Scott Kelly talking to a couple of actors, cuz that's just how good this film is???
It is so nteresting to see actors be on the other side and act like fans, ask questions to people they admire and look up to. It reminds us that there normal people like us. Seb is so happy and excited here! he is so cute 😊
I've never wanted to be an astronaut, and I still don't want to, but I've always wanted to experience the lack of gravity. Just imagine laying back and not worrying about falling and just floating.
I got so nerdily giddy every time one of them did a flip or played around with the lack of gravity! Like another commenter said, knowing it's not done with wires or some sort of movie magic is trippy, haha. When they brought up how you can get lost in the dark and end up upside down and not even realize it, I hadn't thought of that. That must be so weird and disorienting to not have a physical sense of 'up' like gravity provides.
+Brianna Huber A little known fact about the astronaut program is that most of them are useless for the first 48 hours they spend in space. Even with the training, micro-gravity is so disorienting that it makes them severely ill until they acclimate.
Does anyone else think, from his body language (lifting glasses to rub his eyes, scratching one leg with another, arms incredibly crossed) that Commander Kelly is either very uncomfortable or just incredibly tired? My heart goes out to him either way. I can't imagine being in a steel container for a year straight. Let alone one floating in an environment where even the slightest thing that might go wrong can and will kill you. Bless him. Also, Sebastian looks fantastic in this.
+Megan Hurwitt Also, the irony of them sending these astronauts space movies isn't lost on me. Soldiers HATE watching the majority of soldier movies in the field (occasionally we'll watch Black Hawk Down or the first part of Full Metal Jacket without finishing) but most refuse. Sending space movies to the space station is just cruel hahahaha!
+Megan Hurwitt I will just provide you with some of the times, see if you can figure it out 6:45 , 13:55 , 17:00, 21:00 , 21:55, and focus on the bald dude.
i don't have to google them, also he is not showing micro expressions. Micro's are fast and subtle, nothing subtle here bro. Clear as crystal. I can read people like a open book.
ahhh this is so cool!!!! The questions Sebastian and Mackenzie asked were pretty cool! We all got an insight into how astronauts live their lives in space and what they think about :D It's quite impressive how far technology has come!! Sebastian looks so happy! :D
That was a cool interview with good questions. I like that the book is respected by an actual astronaut for it's accuracy. I hope to create work that the real guys will like too.
I actually think that every cosmonaut and astronaut, taikonaut or any other naut that goes to space deserves atleast one spacewalk through their career, cuz of all the sacrifices they make doing this job.
+Bill Kerman If I had to guess, I think it's because traveling to Mars is a more attainable goal at this point in time and the planet fascinates a lot of people, including me. Plus, the movie is based on a popular book and it looks to be more light-hearted and hopeful than Interstellar is.
+Rachel Bond I don't think they are really comparable, all of the science of both movies checks out (aside from going into a black hole without dying) aside from that they are pretty different in my opinion, love them both though!
What you need to understand about the Martian is that the book itself is almost 100% scientifically accurate and possible (the only thing that wouldn’t work is the potatoes, the crater where the ares mission landed has toxic soil, but literally any other location it would work) and because of its intense Accuracy it’s really really loved (the astronauts mention they’ve read the book many times). Interstellar, while theoretically interesting, doesn’t have half of the real life groundedness of the Martian. I think it comes down to the people creating each story; Andy Weir is a nerd who really understands space travel and astrophysics, he’s trying to tell a compelling story by using real science, where Christopher Nolan wasn’t interested in that, he wanted to tell a human story that compelled you to think, not gain a greater understanding of the complications of life on another planet.
Imagine being able to be up there....absolute soundlessness... calm, quiet...total darkness and being able to see earth.... Omg!!!! I'd geek out too💚💚💚💚💚 space rocks!!!!! "The Martian" is freaking hilarious and vivid. Loved it. Leave it to Sebastian to ask the food question😂😂😂😂and he says 'a salad'....come on!!! Those flips🙌🙌🙌
It's all fun and games until the cosmonaut on the other end of the phone starts speaking in Russian: "Longing, Rusted, Seventeen, Daybreak, Furnace...."
This is so awesome! I would be so giddy and intimidated at the same time. If I had the skills to be an astronaut, that'd be awesome, but to be an actor in a space movie and be able to talk to them would be pretty sweet, too. :)
This is astronaut _SCOTT_ Kelly. His identical twin brother, astronaut _MARK_ Kelly is a U.S. Senator from Arizona. Given that they are both naval aviators, test pilots, and veteran NASA astronauts, they each get mistaken for one another frequently.
its really cute seeing seb talk to the austronaut but what i really enjoyed more was seeing the austronauts talk to their families i bet thats something they dont do much 🥺
