Tom is funny and he has a unique cadence to his delivery. Can't lie it's happened. Quick joke bc it's actually on topic and this is a joke you can switch out the military service on both ends and it still makes sense but I was in the Marines so it's pro-Marines...A sailor walks into the men's room and pees, goes to the sink to wash his hands when a Marine walks in to pee as well. The sailor is washing his hands when the Marine is leaving the bathroom behind him so the sailor yells out, "In the Navy, they teach us to wash our hands after peeing." The Marine stops and says "In the Marine Corps, they teach us not to piss on our hands." 😂
For the most part I wear gloves if I think it's appropriate for the situation and/or I believe I'll get substantially dirty/gross without them i.e. handling mulch
In general though I don't wash my hands unless their noticeably dirty i.e. visible or tactile dirt, mud, etc. The main times I wash my hands is when preparing food with raw ingredients (meat, eggs, etc), when I mess with my aquarium, or if I've been using some sort of volatile or toxic substance like gas, hydraulic fluid, etc.
I'll totally agree it definitely sounds gross, but in the context of overall health, it allows your immune system to "stay up to date".
It's akin to not fully using your muscles when exercising, if you always do knee push ups your not going to make much progress.
If you always babysit your immune system it will literally get lazy. 🦠💤
Tom is hilarious, even if he has some rather insensitive opinion on people in poverty, he likes to call them "the poors".
I totally thought it was a bit but after hearing it a lot, it doesn't really feel as funny as it does out of touch. Still, he's very funny and has great overall stage presence and his timing is on point.

Never washed my hands through covid unless it was mandatory to go in a store or something. Never missed a day of work. Still dont wash hands.
