Interesting to see that there has been and still is a spectrum of fascism/ right wing politics among South African white communities. Yes, PW Botha’s so called changes were being made to appease the international community perhaps to get sanctions eased and the likes, they were not genuine. But what’s striking to see is how the majority of white communities saw any concessions by the National Party as betrayal. To blacks, Botha and his policies were still harsh and intolerable, and the cosmetic changes were just that. But to whites, he was softening up, surrendering the white supremacy and eroding on the privileges of the white minority who had/still have vested interests in the maintenance of apartheid: political power as a means to maintaining ECONOMIC POWER and dominance of the black majority. Thank you Associated Press for these archive materials
No... The miners of South Africa were of European heritage: Scottish, Irish, English and Boer. Botha wasn't placating the international sphere but the mining companies, which were mostly Anglo-American, that wanted cheap labour with less worker's rights. The white miners of South Africa knew the value of their skilled labour. This was passed on as political, but it was economical.
@ramasodimalete2699 Makes one wonder when white people say they did not take part in Apartheid. They were not aware. Yet they were aware enough to make sure that they remain economically empowered at black people's expense.

Clean and civilized only for one side boet. One cannot generalize and say SA was clean and civilized when, realistically, it was only that way for one side while the other side suffered injustices on a daily basis and lived in absolute squalor and despair. Also, how can you say no crime and corruption existed when the biggest crime and corruption was in fact the apartheid regime itself?
@leonardolupini3484 clean and civilized for whites. All other races that made up the majority of the population were living in extremely terrible conditions. Infrastructure is definitely worse now, but what do people expect when a whole nation suddenly needs to share what was just reserved for a minority?

Yes, it's an amazing history lesson. Also, don't forget the liberal whites (pfp) and their place on the spectrum.

ANC: ethical but non-functional
Which way, South Africa?
You cannnot even compare the most inhuman regime in history together with Israel
1981 : 5 blacks to 1 white.
2024 : 10 blacks to 1 white
2100 : ?
2100 non-whites to 0.025 colored
I don't see anything wrong in what is after all an African country.
