My experience with Seresto is that for most of my cats it works great. Except one cat that developed a rash all over. She even started getting bald spots. After looking up the side effects I decided to remove the collar and the rash cleared up.
Also had a co-worker complain about all the expensive skin treatments he had to get his dog because of a bad rash. I said it sounded like an allergic reaction to something. I was telling him about the various allergies my pets have had over the years and when I got to flea bites he said not possible because he uses flea collars. When I asked what type he used, he said Seresto. I told him about my cat and suggested he take it off to see if it cleared up. The next day he said not only did he take it off but he checked his vet receipts and found that the rash started shortly after switching to Seresto. The cleared up and he switched back to his former flea control.
The take away from this is pay attention to your pet. Pay close attention when you change their enviroment.

My cats are so smart that they know when it's revolution plus time...but not quite smart enough to know that it's way less annoying than getting fleas, ticks, mites, or worms...so they don't need to run around the entire apartment or hiss at me 🙃. We're making progress, but goodness gracious!

Growing up, before the era of meds like Advantage and Revolution, we put flea collars on our cats, and even worse, flea powder, both pretty useless. When the fleas were bad, my older sister would give the cats a flea dip bath and we would flea bomb the house. I remember the flea dip smelling like hell. Thank goodness for better flea meds.

Thank you Dr Wooten for this video and the many others you provide. I am a new cat owner. I essentially adopted a family of a mother cat and 6 kittens. One kitten was already adopted by a couple who are veterinarians, so I feel he is super well cared for ad safe. The kittens are now 7 months old. The mother cat is about a year and a half to two years old. We don't know for sure when was momma cat born. She showed up by herself about a year ago, in the yard of the house where my mother and I live. We are both retired. A few weeks ago I noticed a lot of scratching among the kittens. Our vets provided little vials of some liquid between the shoulders of all 6 cats. It worked but I see little black things on the sofas and elsewhere. It seems like flea dirt. So I am learning how to deal with possible flea infestation here. I live with my mom and the cat family in Puebla in Mexico. Momma cat's name is Tita. Once again, thank you for your very informative videos. Best wishes from Puebla in Mexico.

I used seresto on my cat for like a year and I noticed that the hair around her neck started to disappear and she was constantly scratching. Idk if it was a bootleg but I took it off. Her hair is still a little patchy on her neck but she doesn’t scratch anywhere near as much. I’m glad I went with my gut on it even though the vets didn’t notice it. I definitely plan on looking into other options if she gets fleas again.

Hello Mallory. I have a video recommendation for you. So I am a new cat owner and I have 2 kittens, 1 male And 1 female. 🐱 🐱 I have been struggling and trying to figure out about how cat schedules should be, with their feeding and how much times, brushing their teeth(how many times a week or every how many days), cat brushing hair, cat walking, and cat playing. I would be interested in a video about your daily routine with your cats, and in tips and tricks you have. I was also wondering how you would feed 2 kittens because I have been researching and seeing that cats are possesive and territorial over their food, so how should I feed 2 cats. I hope you see this and consider making a video about this. 🙏🏽💓🗣 Also, I love your videos, I haven't been able to watch them all but I'll try. ✨

Seresto might be brand of a flea collar got from vet several years ago; I remember more that it was rated for 9 months than what the brand was. Think it came in a circular tin. Anyway, wherever it touched Georgie cat his hair fell out within a week.
Grumman cat apparently did okay with it. A wrinkle in the fabric is that because of my messy health with endocrine, mitochondrial, autoimmune, problems, it is necessary to be careful what is used.

I'm so glad I viewed this video! I had purchased a Hartz Ultra Guard Plus cat collar & was preparing to place it on in a few days but noticed it contains tetrachlorvinphos which is one of those organophosphates which of course was in small print. I'm sure the odds are nothing would happen but I'm not taking that chance I rather flea comb her everyday & some other method.

@Chad, I'm glad you didn't use the Hartz product. I have 3 of them sitting in storage but my vet very politely stated that he hates to speak badly about any company but he doesn't like ANY of the Hartz products. I have been adopted by 2 formerly feral kitties an have been fighting getting them flea free all year. They both received the revolution treatment when I had them fixed, it didn't work. I really dont want to use any chemicals on them at all. They get baths about every 3 to 4 week, (I bleed!), an i use the flea comb on them regularly. I vacuum the house about twice a week an also any pillows etc they come into contact with. I am perplexed why I still see some fleas on them because these cats stay indoors 100% of the time. They know thier living the good life now, they run away from the door when we go out .

@@theeomnipresentitsgeorge707 I have been using it on my dog an 8 lb. Chihuahua for a number of years and he does better with it than any of the other ones. I intend to keep using it unless he develops a problem. The small numbers tell me that it is either allergic reactions or imposter collars sold for cheap. I have seen the imposters being sold via mail order only for a third of the price of the Bayer original ones. Also, these cases didn't start popping up till the knockoff companies started selling imposter collars. Don't be cheap, and always be aware of how your dog is, because remember 97% of the world is fine if they get stung by a bee, but the 3% gets stung and they could die if not treated immediately. I don't know the exact percentage of people who are allergic to bees, so I am just using the Seresto percentages. I am sure there is a higher percentage of people who are allergic to bees. No, actually, 3% of adults and 5% of children are allergic to bees and can die from them. I decided to look up the numbers for you. That said, 10-20% of people are allergic to cats. I am sure that is the same for dogs.

Should all cats have a flea collar? My two cats are indoor cats and go out on our screened-in porch but they've never been fully outdoors before. Should I do a flea collar just in case? Or is the risk low enough that it's not that necessary? (the porch has wooden slats for the floor and on occassion bugs do come through the lattice and then up through the slats, mostly ants, but sometimes flying insects).

First time using serestro on My two cats. Been a few weeks and no adverse reactions. Also not seen any flees since so I think I will carry on using but will monitor closely. I bought from a reputable business in the UK and paid nearly £70 for the 2 so in my opinion it probably is down to fake cat collars. Serestro should realise a qr code leaflet in every pack. So they can go to there site and scan it when it's first bought. This would confirm that your product is genuine. Then they can leave a comment on how that specific collar worked on there pet. I think this would solve alot of problem for this.

I had / have a flea infestation at my house. I bought two Seresto collars for my kitties. I decided to keep the cats only in one part of the house (the main living area). It took a couple of weeks; but, the cats rarely ever scratch anymore. I myself have a HUGE problem with fleas; they absolutely love me!!! The flea population has decreased dramatically in the area where the cats are staying; which is very apparent not only with them, but also myself. However, the flea infestation in my bedroom (where the cats are not allowed) has continued. I have tried everything to get rid of these fleas. 1) Should I let the cats into my room in order to kill the fleas (because that seems to be what the collars are designed for) or 2) can I buy a couple collars and put them in the room without the cats?

im surprised by this because if you deep clean your room then unless you have cocoons somewhere hatching your room should be more or less clear within a month if not a week.. I had the opposite experience where once I stopped letting my cat in my bedroom and after a VERY thorough deepclean session of vacuuming every nook and cranny, changing all sheets and blankets, mattress cover, etc, then I feel like I had no more fleas. I also keep one of those flea trap lamps next to my bed in hopes that any fleas decide to give up climbing the bed and going there instead. sure it isnt bedbugs?

The thing is I have had to use R.I.P. Fleas Extra carpet spray to kill the fleas in the carpet which contains 0.5% w/w Permathrin. I followed the instructions EXTREMELEY closey and it says it's safe for cats and was recommended by my vet. It says to spray and leave for at least 1 hour in a well ventilated room. I left it ventilated for 4 hours and had the door closed after my cat came home and haven't let him in my room since (he is not happy but somehow I think he knows what I'm doing hehe), but it's about 18 hours now since I sprayed just to be sure. Will be vaccuming it today as it says to leave it in for 24 hours.
So my question is avoiding Permathrin in the video here is specifically talking about that ingredient being in collars yes? Or did you mean the spray as well because now I'm conflicted about using the spray even after my vet told me it is fine. I trust you Sarah.

The reactions are happening in such a small amount of users that it could also be an allergic reaction. I mean many many people get stung by bees every year, but there are those who need immediate treatment with an epi-pen or they could die from it. So many people swear we have to eat vegetables and most of the world does eat them, but I throw up violently if I eat the tiniest amount of vegetables, and it doesn't matter the vegetable. Even if it is trace amounts in a vitamin. Also, my thought about the humans as I just added a new Seresto collar to my dog who does better on them than most others is I had read the back of the tin and it clearly said to not reuse the container that the collar came in, even though the collar is in a plastic bag inside the tin. We all know how people like to reuse and repurpose things.
My dog has done so well on it and I have never had any problems with it either. I will continue to use it. I have seen companies offering "Seresto" via mail order for super cheap. I mean a third of the cost of the actual Seresto collars. My guess is that imposters and allergies would make up the majority of these cases. As with anything you need to keep a close eye on your pet. Don't just assume and cheaper isn't always cheaper or even safe! Oh and I don't have a cat, I have an 8 lb Chihuahua/Papillon dog who is very old.

Just generally don't use flea collars on your lovely cat. I have seen one neighbor's cat slowly dies from this collar (white collar ones from Walmart as you can guess!). She was a very lovely and cute cat. Then, I just saved another one yesterday after realizing the cat has had flea issues. They just put the fleas' collar, and hope for the miracle. Those products are not effective if the fleas are not at the head and neck areas. They even tell you that it is toxic for the human. Can you imagine how toxic can be for the cat, which has this collar on their neck all day, and their weight is almost 10-15 times less than the human. Instead of using those collars, follow this advice:
Take your cat to a deep shower with the flea shampoo not the dish detergent !!, get them dry with towels (don't even try to clean your towels, just dump them to the trash right away), then use flea combs to hunt the fleas on your cat (especially in the neck, head, and bottom areas). Then, use the flea drops. Of course, don't forget to ask your vet and do your research online (not just follow the vet recommendation since not all vets are not the best in their field unless you really trust).
If you are not going to put effort into your cat to save their lives, don't have a cat. Do your research and make your little kitties happy!!!
Edit: Not all cats like shower, I am aware of it; however, this is the best way to get rid of the fleas from your cat. Put some coverage on your arms in case they attack you. Hold them very tight and make sure they can't move. Don't act like snowflake and very soft because they need that shower for the fleas treatment. Don't be like the people just putting the flea collar and hoping for the miracle. And yes cats need shower if they have this level of flea problem. Don't be like the people who think cats can clean themselves, and they don't need shower. They all need shower if it is necessary!

@@ericpetit1126 Like I said in my edit in the message! You need to know how to keep your cat in the same position and close all of their attack mechanisms. Hold from the back of the head very steady, then if the paws are open hold the paws very tight too. And then, the second person will take care of the rest.
Shower is the hardest part, the rest is very easy to handle. I have 5 cats and 2 kittens.
Never face with any problem as long as you know how to do it and handle the situation 🤷🏼‍♂️

I have three questions. Is their adverse incedent report verified and conducted by a third party not on the payroll?
Every collar states to wash with soap and water if skin contact occurs, how is it then safe to leave on, around your cats neck?
How are pesticides which are unsafe for us, safe for our cats?
I'm not be sarcastic here, if it's unsafe for me to wear a flea collar as a bracelet for 3-8 months how is it safe for my cat to wear it as a necklace? What is it about these chemicals that make them safe for long term use on cats?
Do you or your office get a commision of sorts, every time you sell a collar? (full disclosure) As many vet's sell a certain type of cat food due to the fact that, that cat food company actually funds vet sociaties.
Ok, that's more than three questions. Not trying to be aguementive but I have yet to be convinced of collar safety.

Hi again! I contacted Sarah, and here is her reply:
Thank you for your insightful comments and questions. We need more cat owners like you who don’t just accept what is told them, but do the research and demand transparency. *stands and gives a slow clap*
      Now to your question:
      1. How are flea collars safe for cats to wear if they are not safe for humans to wear? Great question. The answer comes down to differences in physiology and metabolism - cats metabolize chemicals and foods different than humans. There are things that adult humans can safely metabolize and excrete (such as onions, garlic, chocolate, cannabis, and acetaminophen) that are toxic cats, and vice versa. Their physiology interacts differently with the chemicals. The warning on most flea collars to wash your hands is, IMHO, due to the fact that some flea collars chemicals are considered toxic for children. For adults it’s not such a big deal, but the EPA puts that warning on all flea collars for that reason. NOW having said that, I am not a fan of using over-the-counter flea collars for cats, and typically do not recommend them because, again IMHO, there are better, safer, more effective products out there.
      2. As far as adverse events go, I am not familiar with how adverse events are reported in the myriad of OTC products out there. I do know that flea collars, including Seresto, that are sold through veterinarians only usually have in house adverse event reporting - either veterinarians or veterinary technicians employed by the company that makes the collar record adverse events and work with people who have experienced an adverse event to get their pet the care it needs. I like the idea of third party reporting, I’m just not sure it is a widely-used practice in flea collars. Maybe it should be! In any event, if you are concerned, I always recommend calling the company and asking the thoughtful questions you have posed here.
      3. In regards to kickbacks from flea collars - I’ve been retired from practice since 2018, but in 16 years of practice, I never received any kickbacks. I did earn production on products that were purchased through the clinic by my clients, but that is standard operating procedures in many practices, and includes all products sold and services rendered. In general, I never sold any flea collars, except for an occasional Seresto collar to people who didn’t want to use topicals or oral treatments. Hope that answers your question!
Bottom line - if you aren’t comfortable with flea collars, then don’t use them. There are several other products that are safe and more effective. One of my favorites is Revolution, and no…not making any money on that recommendation. :-)

Interactive toys ,( though mine hasn't found one he's thrilled with) are also a hit with many cats. That way they can still play even when you can't.

It’s safe, use it, your kitty will be much happier and healthy. Flea infestation is not good for your cat, she may have worms as well, from ingesting fleas, so you really want to get rid of the fleas ASAP. If it’s bad, give your kitty a bath with Dawn soap, this will kill a lot of the fleas immediately. When she is completely dry, apply the Frontline, and do it consistently, every month.
