I don't know that I've ever heard of Anup before. Thanks for this, Andrew! What really stands out for me about his playing is that, despite the demands and expectations of the genre, he still finds time to sit back and groove. Gives you something juicy to grab onto and headbang along with before things descend back into madness. That alone puts him a cut above the rest.
Man.. THIS isn't one I have seen in a VERY Long time. Good Shit Saw these guys in late 2014 with the lineup they had for this album. Was ridiculous how good they were.
Anup is one of those guys who is really that tight and punchy without much editing in post... Some of these ultra clean playthroughs mess with the audience's heads. If they heard the drummer in the room live it'd be a different impression (for better or worse), if you heard Anup in the room your jaw would be on the floor.
Anup is a killer. He and Rudy are best friends. I’ve always found it amazing that he can play so tastefully, killing ghost notes and all, while being a monster of a human being AND playing .630 17” sticks.
I tried the VF Metal sticks that Anup uses.. I'm comfortable with 2B diameter but those are like marching sticks lmao with the length+diameter. Anup has also been known to actually use VF corpsmaster marching sticks on a drumkit...
@@t3hgir yeah, his finesse with those blows me away. He and Alex actually dropped their own signature stick with Tama back in 2020. The specs I listed in my original comment are his signature stick size.
The Hi-hat stand "wobble" is most likely because it looks like one of Tama's stands with only two legs (developed to fit better along side double pedals). This will ofc not bother anyone who has been on tour having to deal with those platforms you set up your kit on where everything wobbles to a degree 😅
I got anup's autograph on a Monuments album cause he was trying with them. He's so fucking good I had musician friends who didn't go to the show and freaked out when I told them Anup was filling in on drums. FREAKED OUT.
Thanks for doing this one! Watching Damian right now! And I should have said moving away from the more meshuggah influenced pocket of modern guys like Matt garstka and Anup! Glad you enjoyed though. This album is definitely a formative one for me drumming wise. Gave way to a lot of what I find tasteful. Definitely worth a listen if anyone is curious after this video. It's called a voice within - Intervals
I was heartbroken when this iteration of Intervals fell apart (that was a whole drama thing back then).. Aaron accidentally put together a supergroup, and then poof... Such an amazing album!
Heavily underrated and still quite a unique record this one was for me. Intervals always kill it instrumentally but as much as they might've "diluted" their sound a bit in some people's opinions in order to add some space/structure suited for the addition of vocals...I still think there isn't many records I've heard from other modern "djent/modern metal" bands that mixed a lot of the different elements so well. The dynamics, the guitar work & the catchy hooks/melodies always made it an enjoyable listen for me. 👍🤘 The guitar tone in particular is very nice, they never go overboard with the gain/distortion which brings so much clarity to the overall mix.
I still love that Anup Sastry, if you switch the last letter of his first name, and the first letter of his last name you get Anus Pastry lmao. He's such a top tier drummer, love his stuff from the first 2 skyharbor albums, the first 3 intervals albums, and like dozens of other stuff
Wow, you have been having a lot of beasts on here lately and Anup is yet another. Remarkable. This and others should make most of us possibly re-think who the "best drummer in the world" is. So many high level drummers, you can't limit it to 2 or 3. Or even ten. Mucho practice would not do it for me, LOL.
Day 6 of requesting Austin Archeys playthrough of Welcome Back O' Sleeping Dreamer. Another drummer you need to see Andrew. One of the best in the scene. Master of double strokes. ;) This is a Meinl Cymbals Drum Play-through of Lorna Shores song "Welcome Back O' Sleeping Dreamer". It's insane. I've never seen a drummer so relaxed and so fast. ua-cam.com/video/3kaxJos3PeY/v-deo.html
Yeah this was way back in the day before he arrived at his current mixing ability. One other kinda bad thing is that he'll play doubles but only the second kick actually makes it through the gate for whatever reason
It might be my ears, but I wish drummers in this genre would lay off the cymbals sometimes. I love the drumming, but it's really fatiguing for me. I love Anup's drumming, though!
Interesting note actually, in more recent years a lot of these guys have moved to drier cymbals so the top end doesn't sort of drown everything else out and it's not as fatiguing to listen to.
No. sorry his drumming is not to my taste. He is drowning out everything on cymbals/chinas (whatever you call those thing) I am not a drummer but it sounds mushy to me.
ANUP!!! He is one of my most favorite drummers ever. His playing is so clean
Yup clean groove!
I saw Anup play once with intervals and immediately impressed. One of my favorite drummers, full stop
Anup is an excellent drummer. His work with the band Monuments is really good too.
Yup he's amazing!

Yes the GROOVE!
That HI Hat looked like a frightened droid on Star Wars 🤖
BAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Was jamming this album on the way to Atlanta this weekend. It's still so good!
Anup is a beast and the whole album is amazing. Well worth a listen.
Love both versions of AVW!!
Man.. THIS isn't one I have seen in a VERY Long time. Good Shit

I would love to see that line up again! Fantastic
FANTASTIC!
SAME!! Saw them at the Rock & Roll Hotel in DC before they closed. Killer show!
As usual, i really enjoyed your post video discussion. Great getting introduced to yet another fantastic drummer through your channel!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Dude is fire! 2:50 reminds me a lot of Haake on Clockworks.
Awesome drumming performance! Anup is on fire!!! The orchestration is incredible!🤘
This man is on another
Level. Fantastic Drummer!
Yup terrific player
Love Anup. Great drummer.
You need to check out Matt Halpern’s playthrough of Dracul Gras off Periphery’s new album. Incredible drumming on that song
The drumming on the album of this song is surreal. Extremely tasteful...
I am a huge proponent of the floor tom on the left. especially for guys who started playing left handed, that switched to right handed.
Hi, enjoying all the drumming! ...Fantastic Artists
Rock on!
Hi hat be looking like Pac Man gobbling up power pellets at light-speed lmao!
HAHAHA

@@i.r.drummer ah yeah forgot him and Rudi switched to Tama sticks! Something about VF sticks always feels best to me.
check out Titan, from one of his solo albums!! it's sick! plus his plays, record and mix all the instruments of his own songs!!
Aaron needs to get the vocal version of this album back on streaming platforms. I love his instrumental work, but this album was made for vocals
I’d love to hear it

Ah that's a great point.
I used one of those also. Playing different weird stages it made setup easy

He's awesome
If you want to hear another dimension to Anup listen to his work on Moray Pringle's records, he has a play through of one of the songs on his channel.

This was awesome! Love Anup's playing
Anup's a god!
Look at the fulcrum… a lot of these newer drummers uses the end of the stick
Anup doesn't unlock BEAST mode....Beasts unlock ANUP mode!
HAHA

Yup!
Check out his new stuff, not on Reaction, just for joy, I'm alleways in awe
Devin is a scientist
I love this channel. It's chill time.
Yo thanks!
Yeah. Double dope.
Saw these guys open for Polyphia a month or so ago
Have you ever heard of a drummer called Asaf Seewi?
I haven't!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums he’s got some very very old promo vids on UA-cam. I remember seeing him on a random VHS years and years ago at a mates house.

You know, a lot of people call
Him “Anus Pastry”…
‘Cause he’s the SHIT!!!😎
(Just kidding🤓)
A little busy for my taste but very well executed. Nice.
I love Anup’s drumming but this emo math rock leaves me cold
anup is fire... the mix though is a little off putting. would love the drums to feature more, but guess it's the original video.
Yeah this was way back in the day before he arrived at his current mixing ability. One other kinda bad thing is that he'll play doubles but only the second kick actually makes it through the gate for whatever reason
TubeYou? Anybody else catch that 😂😂😂

Listen to the album version - this audio is a bit of a mess... the actual mix is much cleaner.
There is something special with Canadian bands, hey Andrew!!!! José. montréal. canada.
