I love your channel, my friend. I love to see a young man with such a love for the farming, and how you get on with and respect your grandfather. Good luck to you all and your farm and I wish your channel very well.
Thanks very much oak grove for the kind words. If ya have the patience for it. farming can be extremely enjoyable. I do love it! me and my grandad get on very well, he has taught me so much! Again thank you, and best of luck with your channel i have just subscribed!
Well lad. Best of luck with the sheep. I'll be following your progress. Don't have any myself as don't know the first thing about them! What's the plan with them? Mind your back with that trailer! Use the jockey wheel to raise and lower it onto the ball. Also the end of the chain is designed so that you swing it around to the narrow bit after putting it over the ball.
Thanks very much, Bambino. The plan with them is just start of small flock and try grow that over the next few years. i think we will go more towards the sheep than cattle as they are easier manage in my opinion! Cheers for the tips on the trailer i will remember that for next time!
The fun is lambing them at 3am. Your taking the easy route. Put a nice Belclare ram with them in Oct and you will have 8 lambs next year! Great stories from your gran-father. Best of luck
Best of luck with your new adventure, you can use them to clean up the grass before you let the cattle out in sections when the grass starts to grow again, did I hear your grandad is turning 89 ? Well happy birthday if he is, its great to hear the stories coming out of him, we will all be walking the cattle to the mart if the Greens get there way. I suppose you'll get a few pigs next lol.
Thanks so much misty for your support. yes, the sheep make a great job of the land alongside the cattle. You heard correctly, 89 next week, he never runs out of stories. Haha we might yet a few Bonhams
The very best of luck with the sheep Declan, I hope they thrive for ye. I'd listen to your grandfather tell stories about when he was young all day. My mother often speaks about the time of the rations. 👍
Thanks for the support and encouragement Conor. i often spend hours listening to his stories. He never runs out of them! Yeah those were tough times but they made tough people!

There was a mix of everything , it was not about money it was about self sufficiency and the people learnt in the famine the importance of land and being self sufficient. Then pursuit of money 💰 took away all these practices, but they will once again be necessary that day is coming fast . An acre of wheat , an acre of oats , a field of potatoes , that’s a fine holding . May God bless you all there . Is that Portumna ?
Good video Declan. Best of luck with the sheep. How many are you going to get. You should a few mineral lick buckets when you have all got & sorted. We give them to the sheep and they love them
Thanks very much paddy, i plan to get 10-15 for the spring and but few more round September time. I will get them some sort of lick. What sort of lick do ye use?
Been a long time since I was at Loughrea Mart. Haven't heard an auctioneer selling animals in an age so thanks for that. Has your grandad ever been over in Portumna mart? He looks vaguely familiar
Ahh thats class, im glad you found it! You can't just pop into the mart like we used to. I'd say he was in Portumna mart a few times but i don't recall anything in the last few years

1st thing you'll learn with sheep, they will do everything possible to die, then the 2nd thing is if they cant find a way to die, they'll just drop dead one day, but anyway goodluck with them 😂 more money in sheep than beef cattle anyway for sure
Well lad you not giving him much hope , they survived so far he is not looking after them badly . DIE 👀 on him . More like a fox might ramble away with a lamb . They look healthy ewes he bought I hope they are lucky for him ☘️
@@lukehickey7453 exactly, keep 10 sheep for 1 cow, 20 lambs at 6 months old would sell for 200 a head or so in the mart, that's 4000 euro, take into account a few deaths 3000 euro compared to 800 from one cow 🤔 gets ya thinking
