I saw on another video showing that if you put the butter cream into the microwave for a few seconds, it darkened the red.

Hi ! am I able to use food color dye drops instead of the gel ? Also why is it that my buttercream is just to soft it hold but still seems too soft after being in the fridge for hours after decorating. Maybe because I’m using a hand mixer not the one you use ?

Great color ! Does the icing have an artificial taste? That's my problem with using the color.
I personally don't like to ice an entire cake with dark buttercream for that reason. This technique allows you to use less coloring, but you still use enough that it could turn tongues red. So whenever I have to have a red, black or dark colored cake, I usually cover it in fondant and save the dark buttercream for decoration purposes.
Hi Karolyn, when I use the viva paper towel method, my buttercream sticks to the paper towel :( is there a reason why this happens to me please? Any help would be great!
Are you using American Buttercream? You may be getting the icing too wet while using the bench scraper. If you use a meringue buttercream, you can't use this method because it doesn't form a crust.
@@KarolynsKakes Using your American buttercream :) maybe I am getting it too wet with the hot water/scraper method. Maybe I should put it in the fridge to set for a bit before trying it again?

Hi Amanda! I did this last week, you can just make a yellow or white cake and add red food coloring to it!

Does this colour work for Swiss meringue butter cream
I personally haven't worked with Swiss Meringue buttercream, but I know that you can color it with gel colors, which is what I used in this video. If you try it, let me know how it works out!

I tried 3 different brand super red and they all came out burgundy 😩. Even the microwave method came out burgundy.
Really?! Did you try the Americolor Super Red? It's so pigmented!
How do you make black? I used Americolor super black and my buttercream tasted bitter
I only make black buttercream for accent decorations because of that very reason. I feel like too much coloring is needed to get it to a deep color (even if you start with a chocolate icing). So whenever I need a black cake, I cover it in fondant (and always tell people that I'll be doing it that way.)
Try using black food powder instead of gel

I start with a brown gel color base because clients may not want a chocolate taste. Then I use black gel and let it sit overnight to intensify.
