@@MarioMario-wn3fcCooper wasn’t always like that tho, he wasn’t always that brutal. Because when we see him filming his movie as the sheriff the script tells him to kill the other actor and he says “do I have to kill him?” Losing his family and being in the wasteland 200+ years would do that to him and I’d love to see in season 2 him going through the hardship of after the bombs fell and see his moral decline into the ghoul he is.
Consistently a high bar in terms of portrayal! Part of it is down that he had to portray the same long-lived character and jump back and forth. I'm not sure the sequence it was recorded in, but regardless of how it was recorded, the character is as he is in that moment, and that is impressive! The Ghoul is not my favourite character, but Walton Goggins definitely is!
Somebody pointed out how the ghoul and lucy are 2 opposite ends of the fallout player spectrum. Lucy is trying to make good decisions scared of being a bad person, and focused on her main quest. Meanwhile the ghould is somebody's 80th playthrough, stealing everything and being a badass who doesnt care about being a good guy anymore, embracing the cruelty of the wasteland
It's also the opposite ends of life. We are often brought up to be good and upstanding and after dealing with real life, bills, and responsibilities many give in and sell out.
in the first episode, the dad at the bday party calls him a pinko, basically a leftist or communist. I think his arc is more representative of how in leftist circles it's easy to become jaded and angry and how that's a dangerous mindset to have. Lucy is more or less a liberal, raised with a naive view of the world, thinking her way of life is better or more civilized than those on the surface. and throughout out the show we begin to understand just HOW evil the corporations were. almost to the point it's difficult to comprehend. it's easy to look at the cruelty of The Ghoul when he eats his friend and detest it, but he's not eating his friend because he's evil, he does it because it is what is necessary to survive in the world that vault tec and the other corporations intentionally created.

interesting during Fallout New Veags development their was some issue in the developers about implying stuff exist that they knew would never be in the game. One of those things was how a tie in comic shows a NCR trooper ridding a horse, despite the fact the horse don't seem to exist anywhere in the game.
You’re right! I noticed him carrying it at one point and just thought, “huh, where’d his horse go?” And promptly forgot about it. Lol. But you’re totally right! Heartstrings just got tighter.
I loved how the first episode hinted at the Ghoul and his relationship with Vault tech with one of the parents at the party asking him to take a picture with the Ghoul doing his "iconic thumbs up" i.e. Vault boy's thumbs up. On first viewing, you wouldn't have noticed that little hint, and it is these little hints that made a second viewing even better
I've had a fallout 3 poster in my room for year with various poses of the pip boy character, most of them are from perks, like one is laying down with a sniper, another is him at a terminal hacking, probably over 50 little images of him on this poster. When he explained the thumb thing I looked at my poster and sure enough at the bottom of the poster is the pipboy holding his thumb up with one eye closed lol
@@ashlingteirney7543pretty sure his wife actually mentioned that they made the suit in his colors, and I guess the yellow and blue just sort of stuck. So the color scheme is canonically based off of him too
What I also didn't notice until the re-watch is that the seemingly uninteresting and insignificant Bud Askins is basically hinting the whole conclusion of the season
This show really nailed the ridiculousness of the games rather than trying to be a standard Hollywood adaptation which I admire. I'm also glad they went with an original story set in the canon rather than retreading the plot of Fallout 4.
Just played Fallout 4 last year for the first time with probably a 100 mods right from the get go. The main story line was the worst I have seen in any media for a very long time. Any sidequest, log entry, environmental storytelling and evil sidekick was more interesting. It was fun but I never really cared enough to finish it. And let's not get started about the Preston gang - almost had me quit before the the fun actually started. Great physics though, pushing a shopping cart full of loot instead of overloading your inventory felt really neat.
Really? Because for me it felt a like they were struggling to capture the absurd dark humor, especially early on. They definitely started to get it by the end (at least in respect to the post-war era), but I don't think they ever really nailed it in the pre-war segments. This is a world where literally all scientists are literally mad scientists from 1950s sci-fi movies, so the attempt to insert some kind of serious social commentary felt really out of place. Fallout has always approached its commentary by taking things to their absolute most absurd extreme. The "concerned citizen" aspect was way too restrained, IMO.
@@foxyfoxington2651 As you point out, the show definitely gets closer and closer to the tone of the games as it goes (I didn't super care for the show as a whole until the final episode which blew me out of the water) and so I'm more inclined to believe that's necessary "season one weirdness". One of the many areas that the show, at least initially, has elements sanded down to be expanded on later so that the outsider audience can get acclimated. My bet is season 2 we shift flash-back characters to Lucy's dad who as a vault tech employee would be dealing much more directly with all the crazy scientist stuff. Plus Mr. House will probably be a major player which furthers a lot of wacky pre-war stuff.
Most video game adaptions that come out now are GOOD than bad (which is just halo tv show only really now), and this show being a great one proves to be among the best of them all!
@@paparoach158 Witcher season 1 was pretty good and for a lot of people into the games so I wouldn’t at all say what you said but I haven’t seen much after the first so I can’t say what’s good or not past season 1. And with Henry Cavil leaving, not much reason to watch but who knows, it could be still pretty good if they improve what’s there!
I think Fallout does what some game adaptations can't. It's able to authentically convey not only the atmosphere of the game, but also the tone with all of its satire, darkness and, in some situations, the absurdity of the situations occurring in the game. The level of fan service for Fallout players is incredible, perhaps the best attention to details on my memory. And in general, you may like the main characters, although not all of them are good people, for example Ghoul. I liked Cooper Howard's story the most from all 3 main characters, it really fits the Fallout universe as a whole. For me, this is the best adaptation of a game on the Arcane level. They are very different, but they do something that some projects simply cannot give to the average viewer or fan of the game.
New Vegas did as well, and I think fallout 3 might’ve had this ghoul cult that was trying to build a rocket or something. They were clearly insane, but they weren’t monsters like regular ghouls tend to be
I honestly got the vibe that he forced himself to keep playing the role because he'd crumble under the weight of what has happened to him and what he's had to do to survive up until that point. Cooper Howard would hate the Ghoul, but the Ghoul keeps Cooper Howard alive.
@@TheRisingIcarus Yeah, he also drops the act when nobody would notice. Like when he fell through the wood during his fight with Maximus, he said "that hurt" without the accent, just like how he spoke in the pre-war flashbacks. He does it most often though when he's alone with Dogmeat like you said. He's definitely playing a "character" somewhat and it's a coping mechanism of sorts.
one of the best things of watching the show was cutting between the past and the present and wondering whatever happened to that kind and loving man that turned him into that monster, in more than one way
@@3nertia are you sure? at the end of the show he asked where is his family? so there might be more to that, not to mention him finding out his wife pretty much started the apocalypse
Yeah, especially once you take into account that it's been 200 long years for him. We know so little about him, he's a fascinating character because we ultimately KNOW that Cooper Howard becomes the Ghoul.
The Ghoul is the protagonist of The Fallout Show and nobody can convince me otherwise. The first and last scenes in the season were about him, he is the Audience’s connection to the Pre-War World, and he is the only one who got a proper Fallout Protagonist Title. Fallout 1: The Vault Dweller Fallout 2: The Chosen One Fallout 3: The Lone Wanderer Fallout New Vegas: The Courier Fallout 4: The Sole Survivor Fallout Show: The Ghoul I expect Season 2 to be centered around his journey more than any other character.
While I agree that Cooper is season 1's best character, I still think that all 3 protagonists are valid. Lucy's character and main motivation callback to both the Vault Dweller and Lone Wanderer while Cooper is kind of like a combination of the Courier and the Sole Survivor since he's a man who's witnessed the past world and is searching for his family while also being this loose canon who is super detached from his past personality after a major event that changed him. Maximus is honestly the most unique Fallout protagonist out of the 3 since his allegiance is with the Brotherhood Of Steel which is something we haven't had since Fallout Tactics and the other Brotherhood Of Steel game.
This performance has elevated Walton Goggins from a character actor who I recognized and thought was good, to a potential star who I'll go out of my way to see. I think you're absolutely right that the show leaned on him and it really payed off.
Walton Goggins nailed it but the actors who played Lucy, Maximus, Norm, Moldaver all also did a really good job too. Minor characters were also pretty good
@@1vaultdweller Not to mention an incredible child actress for Janie If a production has excellent child acting it's a green flag for the rest of the show for me
The ghoul is the most interesting character to me. He went from your basic good-ish guy just sort of flowing along with life to someone that was aware of the greed around him but, as of when the war happened, not able - or not trying - to do anything about it. When Lucy comes on the scene it's clear he's been ground down to where it appears there may be nothing good left in him. But there are a couple clues that's not the case. He doesn't use violence without purpose, and more importantly he saves Dogmeat. There's still a spark. By the end of season one we see the spark has grown, just a little. I do hope he's on a redemption arc. I love a good redemption arc and he seems worthy.
He didn't struck me as evil, more like he doesn't give a shit because he's been alive for over 200 years and pretty much everyone he knew and love is gone. Also, Ghouls are really not treated that well in Fallout series, most NPCs tend to hate them.
@@annoying_HK_guy He isn't evil but rather has given into the pessimism and self-serving nature of the world. The only thing keeping him going is the chance to find his family, and he had to discard his humanity to survive so long. The man he used to be, someone who was kind and good and honest, would've died in the Wasteland.
You don’t cast that actor without some plans to make him do a bunch of funny shit. Knew as soon as I saw him he was going to have a larger role than BoS bully #2.
Thanks for pointing out The Hateful Eight be underrated. It is a masterpiece. Goggins is special in it. Also underrated as an actor. His delivery is up there with any actor and he shows it in that movie! He caught my attention in Justified.
@@adamdavidsoddities8573 people hate lucy?? i kinda get maximus, he was done dirty by some awkward writing/editing choices, but lucy is fantastic. ig people find her annoying or something??
I think the Ghouls wester referencing, on a meta layer turning from the obvious cowboy hero to the cowboy antihero who has been worn down to bone while still being a ethical yet compromised hero is definitely a feature and not an accident or bug. Jonathan Nolan is why.
Of all of the Fallout series discussions on UA-cam, this is by far the most unique and and fascinating one I've seen. I like how you've spoken about the show with perspectives from a more film and acting perspective rather than from the games. I've played the games like most other creators who made a video so it was refreshing to see this kind of analysis for a change.
I truly believe this is Walton Goggins 'Trevor Phillips' moment. Steven Ogg has been immortalized in GTAV forever, Walton will be no different in Fallout.
It's a bit of an aside but i love how fitting your channel's theme is for talking about Fallout, the retrofuturism fits the straight up retro vibe so well Love the channel, please keep it up 😊
I have to think the implication is that he’s aware of the cryostassis, and Howard’s plan was keep looking for wherever they’re sleeping or wait long enough for them to awaken on their own. In a life that’s 300 years old he would surely have had gotten used to coincidences by now,but that he suspected Lucy was not just a decedent of Hank but more closely related to him would imply that he was somewhat aware of Valt-Tech having a long term storage plan.
A part of me thinks the the reason the Ghoul brought her to be harvested is cause he knew she would win. As soon as he lets her go, he passes out with basically her being his only hope to survive. Those 2 guys inside wouldn’t think twice about leaving him and just keeping their vials, but some silly vault dwellers might pull through
It's a nice thought, but remember that he bartered her for vials. I took him passing out immediately as showing the audience how desperate he was. He was brutal to Lucy, but he also clearly liked her in his own way. He didn't just straight up shoot her like the other people in Filly. OTOH, once she broke the vials he was well and truly screwed. She was the only thing he had to barter for his own survival.
@@jackinthebox301 interesting to see that 2 different points can be taken from the same scene and both seem almost plausible. That’s what makes a good show
nah i do not think so. If he had passed out before selling her she would have ran away. he already cut off her finger. no way he gonna trust her. He was just holding out until she was sold so hopefully he could get his juice on time.
@@srai5333 after he sold her and she’s dead, how’s he gonna get his juice? The 2 guys watching the place? Maybe they might take him and keep him like the other ghouls, but there not going to just give it to him out of the goodness of their hearts and be on their merry way.
in season two they can really flesh out Lucy and The Gouls relationships. Lucy learning about his past and and becoming friends in something i am excited for.
Omg I'm excited to see what other factions they see like Vipers or Followers of the apocalypse the further they head to New Vegas. Or if they go to goodsprings they could use the real goodsprings since the game is spot on to the saloon and stuff.
I'm so excited that you decided to dig into this, and honestly could use another hours worth of deep dive! I had such low expectations and only turned on episode 1 because I was bored....but MAN

I was taken by surprise as I’m not a gamer. The series is brilliantly produced. Loved Cooper, the Ghoul, Lucy was outstanding and Maximus was great. Loved the music mixed in with the tragic scenes. Really enjoyed all eight episodes.
What a great show. The usual suspects were calling it out before it even aired. Best thing I've watched in a couple of years. If they do merch I'm all in for a classic Cooper Western poster.
This show blew me away! I only played a little bit of Fallout 3, so I didnt know much of the story, but man! Each character was done so well, and the writing/set designs was spectacular.
Fallout was the first show in years I binged as fast as I did (2 episodes 1 day, 6 the next). Lots of interesting threads for them to pick up in S2 and I like that they didn't cut off the flashback, pre-bomb drop story. There's still lots to explore there like how Moldaver was still alive (and not a ghoul), where his family is at (I'm guessing Vault 31), and how/why Cooper got replaced by Vault Boy as the mascot.
I know this is a video about Walton Goggins's character. But, since we're on the Fallout topic, and since you've done so many actor career videos, I was wondering, could you do one about Kyle Maclachlan's career? He has had so many memorable roles on his resume.
Fallout 4 ghouls have it great. They used to be rotting, smelling, decaying sacks of meat. Their only perks being an extended lifespan and a resistance to radiation that slowly turned them feral. Come Fallout 4 and they all seem to have no flesh decay whatsoever. They live for centuries, apparently do not need to eat, drink or breathe if the boy in the fridge or the Overseer of Vault 88 is any indication, and the discrimination they face has been dialled down considerably. What was once a curse is now a way to gain some nice superpowers.
wtf are you talking my about my guy the fo4 (fuck fallout 4 btw) ghouls are so fugly. You can tell how bad the radiation is fucking them up. Not as fugly as fo3 or NV but they’re no where near how you’re describing them (imo)
also ghouls are still hated. no ghouls in filly, remember? and no ghouls in diamond city...and ghouls are murdered on sight by the BOS in fallout 4 and the show. also no decay? they have no nose brother, lol....
You even see ghouls at different levels of decay, Goggin's Ghoul is fairly healthy looking compared to some of them. Could be better though, missing a nose and skin turned to tanned leather.
I mean, I understand the appeal of the earlier ghoul aesthetic, but Fallout 4 and the show have more realistic-looking takes on it. Fallout is absurd, yes, but in the real world, when someone's constantly having open sores not covered by skin, they're going to die of infection or sepsis. Fallout 4 and the show feature ghouls covered in scar tissue rather than open wounds, which is a lot more believable.
This was a great review. I'm a first time watcher and enjoyed it thoroughly. The character relationships were excellent leaving for MORE every episode in between.
the treatment and effective writing off of the NCR kind of tarnished my otherwise profound surprise and appreciation with the time and care the showrunners went to make this series. Apart from that, this is a genuinely good show and I can't want for the future
Finished watching this 2 nights ago, and yeah, it was so much better than I originally expected. I think you captured what made it so good, and that's that it developed original and compelling characters whose stories and motivations you really want to follow along with. It avoided the pitfall another forgettable adaptation might have where it tries to reproduce something directly from the games and leans too heavily on referential material. Which is funny because the same people whining about this show ruining canon or whatever would probably also whine about a show like that not getting everything perfectly accurate. I think this show has wide enough appeal to be enjoyed by people completely unfamiliar with the games (as it was with my friend who watched it together with me), which hopefully gives it enough staying power to finish telling the story they want to tell. Walton Ghoulgins is such a treasure. Makes me happy to see him getting more high profile work and recognition.
0:33 love Person of Interest! Especially watching it with Grandma. As a matter of fact, I’m gonna rewatch it with her again. Great breakdown man, just started the show and the game recently!
I love the ghoul and walton goggins as a cowboy in general. His role in hateful 8 was a tone setter. I expect nothing less this role is perfect for him
I would absolutely love to see you cover The Shield at least once🙏 It's my favorite show of all time and I think it is far and away the best cop show there is. The show has such an interesting concept in really being forgotten by the zeitgeist despite making great strides in what could be shown on standard television
I love the Nolan families work, so I had high expectations but I did not expect it to be that good for a Fallout series and I do think the Ghoul is my favorite character, though I was born decades after Clint Eastwoods prime I still love his work.
I love seeing the two worlds collide. Those who are deeply ingrained in the Fallout lore, and those who have never heard about it before. Both loving this series ❤
I'm curious as to how him and his daughter got separated Because they were together when the bombs dropped, yet he doesn't know where she is 200+ years later
Don’t forget his role in Diablo, he was fucking amazing and it feels like he’s playing both Scott Eastwood character and his from that movie. Probably my favorite thing he’s been in.
What got me excited about the fallout tv show is the fact that not only video video game adaptations could become great but a vassal for new characters and storylines on the same universe that could come out as just a fresh of breath air. If done right and justice to it’s original source material of course.
I went into this show with the lowest of expectations and came out wanting more after finishing the series in one sitting. God damn. It’s been a while since that’s happened.
Same I absolutely loved Walton as the Ghoul he is extremely charismatic and I love it!!!!! I truly deeply loved this first season it was great. Can’t wait to see S2
This show perfectly walked that line of great easter eggs for gamers while also being a really good show to watch for newcomers. It didn’t cater to only one or the other, and it didn’t feel like it was talking down to us either. I was really pleasantly surprised! A refreshing show after a bunch of other adaptation fails lately
Great video, and yes ... More need to talk about Fallout Tactics, a unique side story. But what about the PS2 game Brotherhood of Steel, and the tragic fall of Armpit...ARMPIT!!!!!!
I have a theory of what made changed Cooper from the somewhat decent man he was to the ruthless and cynical ghoul he became. I think it's so good that, frankly, if it's not what the studio intends to write they should. In season one it seems to me that Cooper sees his wife as this embodiment of goodness, his guide star, someone he can always count on to do the right thing. We saw how traumatic it was when he heard his wife of all people seriously intending to set off a nuclear war. I think that what turned him into a monster was giving up on goodness. And what caused that wasn't surviving in a post nuclear world but witnessing the world as he knew it being destroyed and 90% of it's people killed, then 200 years of wandering the wastes, seeing millions of skeletons, witnessing the struggling and suffering of those who survived, the world reduced to a shadow and nightmare version of what it once was. And the whole time thinking "My wife did that." The best person he knew did the worst thing in Earth's history, that's what broke him, what made him give up on morality. What I think happened is that, as the bombs were falling, Cooper's wife and daughter were snatched up by Vault-tec as she was upper management and taken to a reimagined Vault 0. Where either Barb and her daughter are both put in cryogenic storage or just the daughter and Barb ended up in some kind of brain-in-a-jar situation. I think that at the end of season 2 or 3, Cooper rescues his daughter he gives her the dog he's gotten as a replacement for the one she lost in the war. Possibly he stays with her to protect her or he get's killed but thinks she'll be better off without the monster he's become.

Goggins was great in bourne series but my god did he win me over in the hateful 8. This fallout show brought even more appreciation poured towards him from myself
I really enjoyed it, despite (and maybe because of) being only a casual Fallout game fan. What I think has the most potential is that there's potentially unlimited vaults to draw from in future seasons. In theory it could go on nearly forever. But I agree, I'd have loved a few more episodes for arcs to be set up and characters expanded on.
This show actually made me return to fallout 76, and I'm glad I did, because it's not the buggy hellscape it launched as. I was actually really really surprised by the TV show, and yeah it could have been better, but man, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the Lucy character was fantastically done. The Ghoul was amazing as well, and next year we'll be able to play as Ghouls in FO76, hell yeah!
I love the symmetry between the Howards and the McCleans. In the Howards, the mother is the heartless, ruthless Vault-Tec executive whose determination to save her family from annihilation costs her it, as the moral father is nuked almost directly by his ex and becomes a Ghoul. For the MacCleans, it's the exact opposite. So it's no real wonder that The Ghoul eventually begins to see the daughter he lost in the Great War- because that's pretty much what she is.
I can’t wait to see them introduce a death claw. The Yao gao or the bear I almost thought was a death claw scene so I can imagine how spooky it will be.
The Ghoul and Goggins portrayal of the character are definitely the stand outs. I really enjoyed how the show really played with the modernization of the cowboy and the knight that happened post WWII in the US and England. I’m very interested in seeing where this show goes especially with Vegas as the next setting. California was a great place to start this deconstruction of the American west and Vegas will be a great way to show the other side of that coin.
Love the balance of Walton Goggins giving an absolutely scene-stealing performance "every god damn time" with costars who can hold their own beside him. And that's not even on the Top 5 Things I Love about this season 😊

Ikr, when we got to that flashback scene I was like, "Oh god this was so good."
Not to mention him wearing vault tec colors, was really good foreshadowing
@@connycontainer9459 Well, I am Preston's fan. Minutemen all the way. The game did not execute well, he's one of my top 3 best character in my book.
Did this comment get copy pasted from somewhere?
We're getting to the point where game adaptations are more likely to be good than bad and that really excites me
Most video game adaptions that come out now are GOOD than bad (which is just halo tv show only really now), and this show being a great one proves to be among the best of them all!
Crossing my fingers and hoping that the upcoming live action Minecraft could live up to the hype, and also Ghosts of tsushima
@@Gadget-Walkmen Witcher is pretty shitty to , Henry saved it a bit a gerald but now that he's gone it will be utter trash
@@paparoach158 Witcher is more of a book adaption not the games.
Another fun fact is that Lucy is played by the actress who voices Jinx in Arcane.
@@grackleboi2523 The secret is obviously to cast her in every video game adaptation from now on
@@TheCoolCucumber Just to not "jinx" it, eh?
@@Niemand lol
It actually feels like a videogame. Like a fallout game. That’s what’s impressive.
Fallout 4 actually was shown to have many Ghouls who retained their identities. Idk why some people keep forgetting that lol.
New Vegas did as well, and I think fallout 3 might’ve had this ghoul cult that was trying to build a rocket or something. They were clearly insane, but they weren’t monsters like regular ghouls tend to be
@@gameb9oy Nope, it was New Vegas that had that side quest.
Anyone who thinks the opposite has not played the games. Simple as that.
Going Feral is a good ending for a ghoul. Turning into a tree and NOT going feral.. that's rough.
@@BlazingOwnager Harold wasn't a Ghoul, he's an FEV mutant. That's how the tree grew to begin with.
I kept getting the feeling that he's been playing the role of the ruthless wasteland bounty hunter for so long, he's forgotten it was an act.
I honestly got the vibe that he forced himself to keep playing the role because he'd crumble under the weight of what has happened to him and what he's had to do to survive up until that point. Cooper Howard would hate the Ghoul, but the Ghoul keeps Cooper Howard alive.
I guess it's a form of escapism as well. I noticed that when alone with Dogmeat, he dropped the accent
He's definitely playing a "character" somewhat and it's a coping mechanism of sorts.
one of the best things of watching the show was cutting between the past and the present and wondering whatever happened to that kind and loving man that turned him into that monster, in more than one way
Pretty obvious something happened to his wife and daughter lol
@@3nertia are you sure? at the end of the show he asked where is his family? so there might be more to that, not to mention him finding out his wife pretty much started the apocalypse
Yeah, especially once you take into account that it's been 200 long years for him. We know so little about him, he's a fascinating character because we ultimately KNOW that Cooper Howard becomes the Ghoul.
I loved the interactions between Coop and Lucy. He taught her a lot about the Wasteland and she helped bring back a little of his humanity
And so we learn of another interest of captainmidnight. Had no idea he was such a Fallout fan until now.
Fun fact: I used to write for a show called Hidden History on the channel Shoddycast, where we covered Fallout many times.
@@captainmidnight wow you were a writer on that?? I loved that series!
The Ghoul is the protagonist of The Fallout Show and nobody can convince me otherwise. The first and last scenes in the season were about him, he is the Audience’s connection to the Pre-War World, and he is the only one who got a proper Fallout Protagonist Title.
Fallout 1: The Vault Dweller
Fallout 2: The Chosen One
Fallout 3: The Lone Wanderer
Fallout New Vegas: The Courier
Fallout 4: The Sole Survivor
Fallout Show: The Ghoul
I expect Season 2 to be centered around his journey more than any other character.
Lucy is the catalyst that drives things but yes, you’re right.
I also like how he has both dogmeat and lucy as companions. he really does feel like the main character.
I don't think he's the protagonist, just like William is not the protagonist in Westworld but his backstory is essential for lore building.
The first scene was about him, the last scene most certainly was not
This performance has elevated Walton Goggins from a character actor who I recognized and thought was good, to a potential star who I'll go out of my way to see. I think you're absolutely right that the show leaned on him and it really payed off.
Walton Goggins nailed it but the actors who played Lucy, Maximus, Norm, Moldaver all also did a really good job too. Minor characters were also pretty good
@@1vaultdweller Not to mention an incredible child actress for Janie
If a production has excellent child acting it's a green flag for the rest of the show for me
You put Walton Goggins in anything, he will make the final product much better. Or at least just the scenes with him in it.
The Ghoul was never evil......
He is just being numb and broken under the carefree attitude, after being used for his entire life as Cooper
The ghoul is, in a way, what Lucy could become become of she allows herself to become as disillusioned as him. A dark mirror.
I love her "Golden Rule! Motherfcuker!" She almost snap. I hope she is harden but not losing her heart.
I'm kinda excited to see where they take Thaddeus. I didn't expect to like him but by the end I was interested in him and wtf is going on with him.
Would LOVE a Person of Interest retrospective
I loved that show. The AI seemed sci-fi, it seems normal now.

I think the Ghouls wester referencing, on a meta layer turning from the obvious cowboy hero to the cowboy antihero who has been worn down to bone while still being a ethical yet compromised hero is definitely a feature and not an accident or bug.
Jonathan Nolan is why.
His character is incredibly well written. They keep this up and The Ghoul will go down as an all time great character like Walter White.
It's a bit of an aside but i love how fitting your channel's theme is for talking about Fallout, the retrofuturism fits the straight up retro vibe so well
Love the channel, please keep it up 😊
This show was surprisingly good
Walton goggins was definitely the highlight for me
Im excited for season 2
Next season we better get at least one character using the fat man launcher while Atom Bomb Baby plays
The Ghoul reminds me of Mad Max. Both are antiheroes who lose and regain their humanity through the people they encounter on their journeys.
As soon as he walked in not suprised in the least bit she wiped the place out, I knew he brought her there for a reason
in season two they can really flesh out Lucy and The Gouls relationships.
I had such low expectations and only turned on episode 1 because I was bored....but MAN
man is so good see this much love for Walton Goggins, this man has been incredible for decades now. And also great to see Justified mentioned. His relationship with Raylan was the heart of an amazing and very underrated show. One of the best I've seen
I was taken by surprise as I’m not a gamer. The series is brilliantly produced. Loved Cooper, the Ghoul, Lucy was outstanding and Maximus was great. Loved the music mixed in with the tragic scenes. Really enjoyed all eight episodes.
“No Dogs allowed?”
Another banger from captain midnight
Nothing is perfect, but this show is well above the rest. Excellent cast.

And yes, The Hateful 8 is a masterpiece
fellow person of interest enjoyer, I'm in tears and subscribed
Such a good show with such insufferable actors giving their all. It aged well in a post surveillance and AI age
What a great show. The usual suspects were calling it out before it even aired. Best thing I've watched in a couple of years.
If they do merch I'm all in for a classic Cooper Western poster.
I was more interested in the Ghoul than Lucy, I kept wanting to see more of the ghoul's backstory, I can't wait to see more from Walton Goggins in S2!
This show blew me away! I only played a little bit of Fallout 3, so I didnt know much of the story, but man! Each character was done so well, and the writing/set designs was spectacular.
When you said “in the post-apocalyptic present day” I genuinely accepted that statement, forgetting for a second that we we were talking about Fallout
@@drown_nnot to mention, raul from fnv and desmond from fo2 and a bunch more, prewar ghouls have been a thing considtently
also ghouls are still hated. no ghouls in filly, remember? and no ghouls in diamond city...and ghouls are murdered on sight by the BOS in fallout 4 and the show.
also no decay? they have no nose brother, lol....
This has been the best series in a long time.
The ncr are still around don't worry and the show treats them as the good guys even getting the main theme music drops. They'll be back for sure.
@@dillydraws remains to be seen
I've been loving goggins since the Shield!!
Person of interest was so good. Not many know about it
Finished watching this 2 nights ago, and yeah, it was so much better than I originally expected.
Person of Interest was one of the best shows to have ever been on TV.
I expect nothing less this role is perfect for him
A man livin' in the new world with an old soul... That's how I describe this guy.
I’m glad this show is giving Goggins the attention he deserves. I’ve been in love with him since Justified
Mr Goggins had me sold before I saw a single frame, I have never seen him in a bad project since Justified.
I would absolutely love to see you cover The Shield at least once🙏 It's my favorite show of all time and I think it is far and away the best cop show there is. The show has such an interesting concept in really being forgotten by the zeitgeist despite making great strides in what could be shown on standard television
I just love how Cooper’s western outfit in the opening is the same colours as the vault jumpsuit
I’m surprised you didn’t catch the scene with the Ghoul and Erik Estrada that’s an homage to the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
"Yellow Jackets' Ella Purnell" Ahem. That's ARCANE's Ella Purnell, sir.
I'm curious as to how him and his daughter got separated
Because they were together when the bombs dropped, yet he doesn't know where she is 200+ years later
Don’t forget his role in Diablo, he was fucking amazing and it feels like he’s playing both Scott Eastwood character and his from that movie. Probably my favorite thing he’s been in.
one of the best new shows, that wasnt a spin off, reboot or sequal, of the last few years
What got me excited about the fallout tv show is the fact that not only video video game adaptations could become great but a vassal for new characters and storylines on the same universe that could come out as just a fresh of breath air. If done right and justice to it’s original source material of course.
I went into this show with the lowest of expectations and came out wanting more after finishing the series in one sitting. God damn. It’s been a while since that’s happened.
Goggins’ performance in the Tomb Raider reboot is one of few things that stuck with me about it
No wonder I get very happy to see the ghoul on screen.

Aaahh yes side quests all the time glorious side quests. I just love that they do the fallout humor got me playing fallout again
And the whole time thinking "My wife did that."
The best person he knew did the worst thing in Earth's history, that's what broke him, what made him give up on morality.

Loved this. Definitely worth watching.
Fallouts strength has always been its unique characters that you'd never find in any other setting, and showrunners nailed that to a tee
Saving this to watch later once I finish the season
This show actually made me return to fallout 76, and I'm glad I did, because it's not the buggy hellscape it launched as. I was actually really really surprised by the TV show, and yeah it could have been better, but man, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the Lucy character was fantastically done. The Ghoul was amazing as well, and next year we'll be able to play as Ghouls in FO76, hell yeah!
THANK YOU! i KNEW i recognized him, it was "The Hateful 8" i couldnt put my finger on it. Such a great movie.
Walton Goggins is an spectacular actor. He was perfect as Boyd Crowder and nailed the duality of the character in Fallout...
Vice Principals and Righteous Gemstones are some of his best work
I just noticed that his cowboy garb in the birthday party scene is very similar to the vault suit color scheme.
Idk how many people have seen Walton in vice principals but his acting is amazing
He piqued my interest in the trailers and after watching the show, the person I'm most interested in learning about, especially the pre-war
cooper is such a cool character i loved his entire story
