I would like every paddler in the world to see this video and read that this is your first time poling! Brilliant! Remember that you already know what your canoe must do and how the river works. You are just using a different type of motor now. (Might I suggest practicing on flat water before you head into rapids, the same as you would for learning to paddle. You will be more comfortable with swinging the stick and edging.) I am so impressed!!! Thank you for sharing this!
@Canoepoler Thanks for your comments and advice! I started poling as I told you before. No one in Japan enjoys canoe poling. And there is no information about that skill or canoe pole. I'm learning by watching your video. We look forward to your advice in the future. Please continue the video.
@@canoeing If you look on my channel's playlist section you will see some of my favourite poling videos (not mine). One of my favourite things about using a pole is the ability to go up and down little rivers and streams that are too small to paddle. This is another secret type of canoe adventure!
@@canoeing If you are on Facebook, there is a canoe poling group and some of the members are the best in the world. It is a great place for information and advice. Enjoy!
I'm sorry. I don't have a Facebook account. I'm following you on Instagram. If you would like to share poling information, please leave a message on Instagram. Thank you very much!
First time I tried to stand up on a Canadian Canoe I realized I was much better than on my knees, so a few weeks later I switched to Stand Up Paddleboarding 😅🤣 So big props to you, always great skills and great videos, always nice to see that everywhere in the world we have the same passions and will to explore nature 😊👍
I've been on boats for 30 years, I'm a beast in a kayak, and I really thought I knew how to handle a boat until I got this canoe. These videos really help a lot, there is an art to maneuvering these things.
@Best of the Beast Thank you for your comment! I'm glad my video helped you. I will continue to post videos that will be useful to my viewers. Please continue to watch.
Thanks for your comment! When it gets warmer, I will go to the river again and shoot a video of the practice and upload it. In that case, please give me some advice!
Thank you! I'll do my best! Perhaps no one in Japan specializes in canoe polling. Of course, there is no instructor. The only way to learn is to watch overseas videos on UA-cam.
You inspired me to pick up an Old Town Camper. Can you share how you set it up for solo whitewater? Are you paddling from the bow facing the stern? What kind of seat are you kneeling on?
@@canoeing Thank you for your reply. Looking at purchasing an Esquif Prospector. I'm debating between the 15 and 16 foot model. I like the longer canoe for poling, but was concerned about soloing it. You seem to do just fine in the 16!
@@MidwestFirecraft Prospector is a great canoe! If you want to move the canoe quickly, it's 15 ft. 16 ft is a good design and has a higher maximum weight limit.

Thanks for sharing the poling video link! I have subscribed to some channels. Next time, I will practice going up and down a small river.

Curious if you tried that in a Penobscot as well, and whether you've got any strong feelings about the Pen vs. the Camper?
I use camber and penobscot depending on the situation. Penobscot 16 is mainly used for down river races.

I’ve tried this a few times, it’s harder than it looks. Your first go was very good!

Nice effort! It's definitely not easy. I have a friend that is a poling instructor. He wants me to try it with him. One day! 😉

Amazing for your first time poling! Is that a 15 foot Camper?
@MidwestFirecraft Thank you for your comment! My camper is 16 ft

What are the details of the pole you're using? 12' long?
Thank you for your question. The length of the pole is 11ft 5.795276in. 3.5 meters.
