Yeah, I had one of the Production guys tell me that there was a third set. When they were here, which was for a month and a half, I looked everywhere for a third set. I never found anything. So I don't know if he was just messing with me or what. I always wanted to get a shot of the "Twins" sitting next to each other. The one time I could have had that the sun had already gone down and I was in the wrong spot, and one set was on the move. I got this video the next day.
@CSX2665 They used both. Depending on what they were filming. For the "in cab" shots during the movie they used the 1206 you see at the end of this video. It was a gutted dead unit. A camera rolled around the cab as Denzel and Chris talked. All the other stuff was real 1206 units. One of which you can see in the first part of this video. They also had several pieces of 1206 engines that were used. But they did have complete running 1206 units that were used in the making.
@SteveWard3928 That engine was used for "in cab" filming. It is a scrap engine that they stripped everything out of. If you search for AWVR 1206-c here on youtube you can see it a lot better. They had a track built in a circle around the cab for a camera to roll around the cab for filming.
@CSX2665 There was several prop locomotives. However, they did have, I think, can't remember for sure, 9 real engines. The 4 AC4400's in this video and 2 or 3 1206 engines. Then the other two grey units.
@kwloverhoss The point was that up to this time the two sets of engines were not anywhere near to each other. They were always miles apart doing filming using each set at the same time. They didn't have them for replacement purposes as in say the General Lee's case. On this day they DID have them close enough to show that there were two sets. As you note locomotives each have their own number. That's why it was great to get a shot of something you just don't see.
@CimarronWestfolk hmm i never saw that but why did they use that dead unit instead of using real locomotives with working motors????,i kno they did but y not 4 cab shots/??????
@CSX2665 It's wasn't really a prop. It was a real loco that they stripped everything out of. It is the 1206 that you see towards the end of this video. They built a track around the cab for the camera to roll on. In the movie..if you have a good eye you can see the camera in the reflection. Plus at one point you can see the guy pushing the camera. Screw up letting it end up in the movie.
@CSX2665 They wouldn't be able to have the track for the camera around the cab using a complete engine. Search on here for "awvr 1206-c" for a good shot of the locomotive. They had a track all the way around the cab for filming
Forgot to say. There are multiple, I don't remember how many, 1206 units. I think 3 or 4 total. I didn't find them as interesting as the AC twin sets though.
During the economic downturn, just like other large roads CP Rail had "yardfuls" of unused late-model heavy road power, in this case the General Electric AC4400CW's, which were borrowed. The movie was filmed along the Wheeling & Lake Erie (ex - P&WV / N&W) and the Allegheny Valley Railroad (ex- B&O / PRR), at points such as Bruceton, Wheeling, Gibsonia, Streets Run, etc, etc. There is NO AWVR.
a real flaw is that boxcar replacing the Covered hopper & it appears b4 the curve scene & when the curve scene comes, the boxcar is replaced by the covered hopper
Since this movie was based of the real CSX story, it makes up to be the best train movie ever. It beats atomic (shit) train, that was the fakest, and the run away train, the story completly lost me. What comes in second place for this is the Silver train "somethng", it stared the guy from the old Willy wonka, and in the end the diesel crashed into the station. yea, so this movie beats all!!
Actually AWVR 777 #1 is CP 9782 & AWVR 777 #2 is CP 9777. AWVR 767 #1 is CP 9751 & AWVR 767 #2 is CP 9758. AWVR 1206-1 is WLE(Wheeing & Lake Erie RR) 6353 & AWVR 1206-2 is WLE 6354. AWVR 5580 & 7346 are performed by WLE 6351 and AWVR 5624 & 7375 are performed by 6352.
It was NdeM 13002 and KCSM(TFM) 1402 but is now is owned by WLE. All units that portrayed 1206 were Ex- KCS and are also currently owned by WLE. Look them all up on rrpicturesarchives.com
Yeah, as you can see by how many vids I did of them when they were here....I think it is something big. Doubt I'll ever see another movie made around here in my life.
well a typical locomotive that size costs definately in the six figure region. So if they had over 9 of them, this must have been one of the highest budget films in the past decade... cool
@imaghostbuster36 The 777 & 767 sets are both real. The only prop locomotives they made were for the two that flipped over. Now they did have a prop cab of the 777. I have that in other videos.
i have a video of them in Northern Ontario at a yard, just after the shooting of the movie ..search..CP Mactier ENGINES FROM THE MOVIE UNSTOPPABLE arrival...and CP Mactier ENGINES FROM THE MOVIE UNSTOPPABLE!
Allegheny West Valley Railroad (AWVR) Is a fictional railroad in a movie called unstoppable which is about a runnaway train that causes mass terror through the state if Pennsylvania. It is based off CSX 8888 and how it took alot of people to stop it.
wow proof that there are multiple train engines with the same numbers. Did you know there were also over 300 General Lees. Its called Movie Magic. They always have multiple vehicles made identical. So if one breaks (or gets wrecked) they just bring another in. For trains its harder to mock one up quick so they had multiple units parked close together. In real railroading no 2 engines on the same railroad should have the same number. Its like a licence plate.
Yes that is the real deal. They have been sitting anywhere the film crew is "working". The only thing I have seen them do is pull out into the road with their lights on and stop traffic. As soon as the film crew does whatever had to be done the cop backs off the road and lets everyone go on their way.
Well atleast CP was nice enough to let them use their engines for filming. Too bad there was an engineer in the cab throughout the entire movie. Canadian Pacific paint job looks better in those beauties

Thanks for the info. Since the start, almost everyone, always wanted to talk about just two fo them. With no one coming up with info on the other two.

ya i was trying to find out for a while. i heard a rumor there were 3 sets but i have yet to find out if there actually is
the 4 AC4400's, both 777's and 767's were leased from Canadian Pacific Railway !
@kwloverhoss The point was that up to this time the two sets of engines were not anywhere near to each other. They were always miles apart doing filming using each set at the same time. Of course they have twins. It's just in case something happens to the main ones.
Asukalover1 exactly that is correct
Asukalover1, One was used for half the movie. The second one, on the other hand, was used for the damaged look in the rest of the movie,
@CimarronWestfolk im saying y did they use a "prop" 1206 rather than an actual non-prop 1206???
@nashgallo Yes. AWVR #777 and 767 were leased Canadian Pacific Dash 9s, AWVR #1206 were Wheeling & Lack Erie Railway SD-40-2s
Viktor Reznov Their not dash 9’s their AC4400CW’s
I was there in 2010 when it went on the run
@CimarronWestfolk when they spoke,y did they use a prop??? is wat im trying 2 say
I love the movie
@CimarronWestfolk hmm i never saw that but why did they use that dead unit instead of using real locomotives with working motors????,i kno they did but y not 4 cab shots/??????

Do u kow 777 & 767 are canadian pacific dash 9s? Its true
AC44CWs*
Ac4400cw
AC44CW
They are AC4400CWs
@intercity112255 Where in the movie did you see locomotives 777 and 767 and at the same time a second set of locomotives 777 and 767?
@CSX2665 They wouldn't be able to have the track for the camera around the cab using a complete engine. Search on here for "awvr 1206-c" for a good shot of the locomotive. They had a track all the way around the cab for filming

Allegheny and West Virginia Railroad (AWVR). Not a real company.
there was three loco sets, the 3rd was used in the derail/explosion scene
a real flaw is that boxcar replacing the Covered hopper & it appears b4 the curve scene & when the curve scene comes, the boxcar is replaced by the covered hopper

BTCRAIL101FILMS yeah atomic train and runaway train were TERRIBLE
movie was awesome
@railfan78559 I could too, but I'll only say one, 1206 went LHF to get its train, and when it goes after the 777, they make a big deal out of it.
@CimarronWestfolk so the second 2 locos u show r the real locos?
Actually AWVR 777 #1 is CP 9782 & AWVR 777 #2 is CP 9777. AWVR 767 #1 is CP 9751 & AWVR 767 #2 is CP 9758. AWVR 1206-1 is WLE(Wheeing & Lake Erie RR) 6353 & AWVR 1206-2 is WLE 6354. AWVR 5580 & 7346 are performed by WLE 6351 and AWVR 5624 & 7375 are performed by 6352.

I mean I don't blame you since most of these engines are older than one could expect, I just kind of cheated by looking it up on a website.
+The Bigmindcreator AKA Elliot well now i know 777 is real :T
Yeah, as you can see by how many vids I did of them when they were here....I think it is something big. Doubt I'll ever see another movie made around here in my life.

@jon1111111122222222 Which ones are which, do you know?
@imaghostbuster36 The 777 & 767 sets are both real. The only prop locomotives they made were for the two that flipped over. Now they did have a prop cab of the 777. I have that in other videos.
Good movie
@CimarronWestfolk i thought it was because of the engine noise
THE CAM IS LAGGY
i have a video of them in Northern Ontario at a yard, just after the shooting of the movie ..search..CP Mactier ENGINES FROM THE MOVIE UNSTOPPABLE arrival...and CP Mactier ENGINES FROM THE MOVIE UNSTOPPABLE!
pretty cool great movie
y didnt they film using the real units & instead having a "prop" 1206???????
Who is watch this in 2017? I am
2020.
that set was derailed in emporium, pa
The filming is not done yet. I'm working on it in Ohio now.
I know there’s 2 sets of AWVR 777 and 767 lol even though I play games on Roblox and found a train game and used 767 as my lead unit
TRIPLE SEVEN! I will not BOARD YOUR CAB
So what if there's a duplicate set of engines
What is AWVR?
Allegheny West Valley Railroad (AWVR) Is a fictional railroad in a movie called unstoppable which is about a runnaway train that causes mass terror through the state if Pennsylvania. It is based off CSX 8888 and how it took alot of people to stop it.

Also there was a fake prop AWVR 777 that had 2 front axles and was pushed by a hi-railer...that was used for the failed planned scenes....
Yes that is the real deal. They have been sitting anywhere the film crew is "working". The only thing I have seen them do is pull out into the road with their lights on and stop traffic. @northlanderdude yes...IS VERYCOOL
True, however not complete. 80% of the film was done on trackage of the WNY&P and NBER. Very little of it was filmed in Ohio and West Virginia.
They had a total of 9 locomotives. Not counting the 2 fake prop locomotives that they built and blew up in Emporiun.
Are these real engines?
Yes
is Rial o fail
@Rdrake1413 yea but its hollywood...hollywood don't no nothing about trains or railroading....
Not either one of these sets.
Well atleast CP was nice enough to let them use their engines for filming. Too bad there was an engineer in the cab throughout the entire movie. Canadian Pacific paint job looks better in those beauties
Prop dummies and real engines
help barey awvr 777
I did
I got ADHD, man. I'm outta here!
Lol
it fiction
your kid ok lol
