At first glance his match winning goal in the 1974 World Cup final looks simple, until you watch it again and realize how little space there is there and that he's completely off balance. Muller could score the most unorthodox goals that came from so very little and clinched a win for his team. Gerd Muller is easily the most clutch strike to ever play.

@@카리나는신이에요-u3h tbf he wouldn't be the same player today just look at how much the game has changed since Müller played if you compare every striker in his prime and how much he could do against the best defenders of his respective time Gerd Müller is definitely up there as one of the best of all time because he did what a striker has to do score a shit ton of goals in a league that was and still is seen as one of the best leagues world wide and won everything he could win a world cup, the league, the competition now known as UCL breaking records at both a national level as well as an international level for example his goals/game ratio for west Germany is unbeaten even compared on an international level when you put him up against the likes of Pele, Maradona, Messi or Ronaldo no one can top him
People used to say he didn't score many outside the box, but when you're that clinical in the box it doesn't matter. Time and again he proved you didn't have to be a big man to be the perfect centre forward which, for me, he was.
Quite possibly the best center forward / striker in the history of the game. Noone else could score from literally anywhere with any part of his body, against any opposition. Terrific, unmatched football IQ. Must have been an absolute juggernaut on the pitch.
His technic was unique : He runs very fast, get the ball, makes a turn, looks a few moment to the movement of the keeper, than he shoot the ball in the other direction - Goal! Incredible!
“If you start thinking, it’s too late anyway”, was one of his lines. He was so agile and quick, it is impressive. Uli Hoeneß once stated that without Gerd Müller and his goals, FC Bayern would have never become the Club it is today. And he is probably right. RIP Gerd. And thank you.
What a beast! A real goal poacher. Nowadays, however, I'm not sure he would be as appreciated as he deserves. It seems that if you don't run miles, dribble, tackle, mark, assist and save penalties, you're not a "complete striker". The box was this guy's natural habitat and he was the f*cking king in his habitat.
He was unassuming but he was a born striker, poacher, finisher, a machine at all levels..and how about the winner in WC final...he has to be there with all the best strikers in history.
RIP. Really underrated player. Way more than just a poacher Muller is definitely one of the most underrated and demonized players of all time. He should easily have the best first touch in the penalty box of all time, really good with his back against the goal as well. He can literally get past 2-3 players in the box in like half a second and then take a damn quick strong shot with good accuracy with either foot, don't think there's anyone else in the history of football who can do that. With his back to the goal ability and his high football IQ it's fair to say that he should definitely have been at least a top class pivot. His headers were also crazy good for someone of his size, should be one of the top 10 headers of all time, maybe even top 5. Yes, he was arguably the best poacher of all time, but he was also much much much more than 'just a poacher' In terms of peak ability I think he's right below the pele maradona messi and brazilian ronaldo. His only 'weakness' is that he doesn't have much ability to bring the ball forward and make proper dribbling runs from deep and because of his height you can't really just boot the ball forward and expect him to get the ball while hustling with defenders. But even then the gap between him and those four in terms of peak ability is pretty small imo. All things considered I think he's definitely at the very least a top 4 player of all time, maybe even 2nd best after pele. He didn't just score lots of goals, he scored lots of really important goals as well. 14 goals in 13 games at the world cup, including two goals at the 1970 WC semis, the crucial goal against poland to get germany to the WC finals in 1974 and ofc the winning goal against holland to win the 1974 WC. Besides that he also scored 4 goals in the 1972 euros semis and finals. And that's not even mentioning his insane scoring stats and his record breaking year of 85 goals. Messi broke the record in 2012 but muller still had a far better goal per game ratio
He was a much more skilful player than most people think. He would play very clever 1-2s with Netzer and Beckenbauer - and finish the move off with a goal.
Gerhard 'Gerd' Müller was born to score goals. Nobody could outfox defenders and goalkeepers in the goal-box as simply as he did. Nobody knew the back of the net as well as he did. He was synonymous with German football.
Lovely remark. I hate the hate between Holland and Germany, too stupid and tribal. Are we apes? No, we aren't.
Balance, agility and power with both feet and head. Combined with quick processing of the ball trajectory and awareness of the defenders and goalies position he got the shots and headers away and usually where they couldn't be saved, over and over again at all levels . He made the very difficult look easy, true mark of a great.
Greatest german player by far and so far. One of the best three strkers in the history of football, the other being Ronaldo phenomenon and Romario in my opinion. He scored in a World Championship final and won, he scored a double in a European Championship final and won, he scored in a European Cup final ( today Championsleague ) and won. He holds almost every possible record in goal scoring in Germany, f.i. 40 goals per season, in in this statics he also holds the 2. and 3. place. In his youth he scored in one season 180 goals from 204 from his whole team. He had a deadly finish with both feet and his head, was always faster than his opponent, great intuition, skill. His teammates just passed the ball anywhere near him in the box and he would score.
*International record* Müller - 62 appearances, 68 goals Van Basten - 58 appearances, 24 goals Romario - 70 appearances, 55 goals Ronaldo - 98 appearances, 62 goals In terms of goal ratio in internationals, only Kocsis is ahead (just) of Der Bomber (but only when including his Olympic tally) and, of all the other renowned goalscorers, only Puskas and Binder come close to matching his feats
@Dule D Was that addressed to me? If so, I've already dealt with Brazilian Ronaldo, but Portuguese Ronaldo has, thus far, scored 85 goals in 154 games, a higher goal tally, but an inferior ratio
What an incredible and inhuman player he was, never saw him playing but these highlights and his records are a living proof of his never ending and unrivalled legacy, May his soul rest in peace.
Before my time. Didn't know much about him until I heard he passed today. HOMIE WAS NASTY THO!!! Had an eye for goal like all the great forwards. Something a coach can't teach. Either you have it or you don't. And Muller def had it. And from the comments and news I can tell he left a huge affect on Bundisliga, German football, and the German people as a whole. RIP GERMAN LEGEND! The football world mourns for you today "Der Bomber".
"Very sorry to hear that Gerd Müller has passed away. Loved watching him as a child and learnt so much from doing so. The greatest penalty box goal scorer I’ve ever seen." - Gary Lineker.
Best ever german footballer ? Definetely one of them. Unreal in the box. When the defenders hold him, when the referee looked somewhere else... he did the goals with his ass.. Legend.
I think, he's easily the German GOAT. The difference between him and Beckenbauer is that Gerd Müller was an introvert and extremely private person, who never did any interviews or self promotion. Whereas Brckenbauer was more the celebrity type and hugely successful outside of his playing career as well, but on the pitch it was Gerd's goals, which made Bayern Munich and West Germany a dynasty, and Beckenbauer kinda acknowledged that, iIrc he said, that without Gerd he would have never won anything.
Onore a te, Gerd. Ehre dir, Gerd. du warst ein furchtbarer Gegner. Ruhe in Frieden, Meister.
Without doubt "kleines, dickes Müller" was one of the best in the game! Just the way he was always able to be in the right place at the right time is sensational. And all the more amazing because he was known as a dangerous goal-scorer and was always marked very closely, but that never deterred him and he could scoot, turn on a tanner and shoot even with opponents on his back all the time. Das soll ihm mal einer nachmachen! MsG

Opportunistic as they come, right place at the right time, tap ins a lot of them and split second decisions to shoot are most of them. But if it was easy then everyone would be at it. It’s not easy it’s a gift and Gerd just had it

@@davidburgarelli9453 you've got to be kidding me. There is no pure striker more deadly than Gerd Muller was. Ronaldo never won a champions league, and was mediocre at all the major clubs he played for. Ronaldo's total goals, both international and club are 352. Muller scored 565 just for Bayern, then 51 for his first club team before bayern and 40 goals for the team after Bayern, adding up to 656 club goals. THEN add his international goals, both friendly and competitive (68), and you have over 700 goals with 724 goals, a little over 2 times as many goals as Ronaldo had. That Brazilian team would have won all those world cups with or without him on the field. Mens football back then was a bit like womens football today with Brazil similar to the US Women teams dominance when fewer countries had proper programs in place. In 20 years time other nations will care about womens football, but the United States women will be the same as Brazil with all these trophies. What makes 1974 so special is it is regarded by many as the highest standard of football of any World Cup. I don't know if that is actually true but it is certainly the biggest jump in quality in a 4 year peroid. 1970 was essentially amatuer football tactics. In the years leading up to 1974 saw Johan Cryuff and that Dutch team do some amazing things. Had Netherlands won 1974 Cryuff would probably be regarded as the greatest player ever. @@MsSyahir92 once again Romario had moments of greatness, but Gerd Muller would find a way to put it in the back of th net against the best teams at the highest level every time. At first glance his match winning goal in the 1974 World Cup final looks simple, until you watch it again and realize how little space there is there and that he's completely off balance. Romario could not score that. Ronaldo could not score that. Pele, Maradona and Messi couldn't even score that. Muller could score the most unorthodox goals that came from so very little and clinched a win for his team. Gerd Muller is easily the most clutch strike to ever play.
Looks so easy when he scores, but it's not! Unbelievable fast reflexes. One touch, one goal, never reached. The one and only Gerd Müller.
Before UA-cam era the only and ever description i've heard about Gerf was from my father. "As soon as he was in the penalty area with the ball, it's a goal". The epitome of effectiveness, a goal machine.
Three defenders around him, and he scored. Rest in peace, Gerd, the best in the box ever.
Never grew up watching him, wasn’t born then but his proven records and statistics shows that he had an unrivalled and decorated career
Rest Easy Der Bomber
Without a Doubt the Greatest finisher in the game....Now maybe Not the most Spectacular...maybe Not even the Best dribbler, Not even the best on the ball,..BUT he would be the First name on the team sheet ...100% Killer ..What a F*****G Goal machine...Der Bomber....

Greatly underestimated player, but in my opinion the best goal tapper in the history. RIP Gerd Muller, you will live on forever among football lovers...
Undoubtedly the Greatest ST that ever lived. Does exactly what I would want from my ST - score goals. I don't care if he can't dribble or skill. Those are attributes for a winger. A ST's job is to score. Then again, he could dribble as well

@@카리나는신이에요-u3h tbf he wouldn't be the same player today just look at how much the game has changed since Müller played if you compare every striker in his prime and how much he could do against the best defenders of his respective time Gerd Müller is definitely up there as one of the best of all time because he did what a striker has to do score a shit ton of goals in a league that was and still is seen as one of the best leagues world wide and won everything he could win a world cup, the league, the competition now known as UCL breaking records at both a national level as well as an international level for example his goals/game ratio for west Germany is unbeaten even compared on an international level when you put him up against the likes of Pele, Maradona, Messi or Ronaldo no one can top him
The greatest goal scorer of al time, his record at international level is crazy, 62 caps, 68 goals, amazing
Every now and again I come here and enjoy my goosebumps. Thank you for the compilation...
Way more than just a poacher
Muller is definitely one of the most underrated and demonized players of all time.
Yes, he was arguably the best poacher of all time, but he was also much much much more than 'just a poacher'
In terms of peak ability I think he's right below the pele maradona messi and brazilian ronaldo.
Messi broke the record in 2012 but muller still had a far better goal per game ratio
in Germany Gerd Müller is GOAT. No Pessi.
Look up this man's stats. They'd/he'd go toe to toe with anyone and will make you also a believer. Legend...no other way to put it folks.

Balance, agility and power with both feet and head. Combined with quick processing of the ball trajectory and awareness of the defenders and goalies position he got the shots and headers away and usually where they couldn't be saved, over and over again at all levels .
Fips Funny hes 4th
3rd comes van basten
You have said everything what was important about him. And at least he was always modest.
*International record*
Müller - 62 appearances, 68 goals
Van Basten - 58 appearances, 24 goals
Romario - 70 appearances, 55 goals
Ronaldo - 98 appearances, 62 goals
In terms of goal ratio in internationals, only Kocsis is ahead (just) of Der Bomber (but only when including his Olympic tally) and, of all the other renowned goalscorers, only Puskas and Binder come close to matching his feats
no he is 3rd recently and ronaldo somehow first
@Dule D Was that addressed to me?

Gerd Müller Weltmeister 🏆
Gerd Müller - an unparalleled player and ball artist.

An excellently put together video. The soundtrack is deliciously appropriate!
The most effective scoring machine in the box ever! I'm lost for words!

Opportunistic as they come, right place at the right time, tap ins a lot of them and split second decisions to shoot are most of them. But if it was easy then everyone would be at it. It’s not easy it’s a gift and Gerd just had it

The best Striker in The History it's Brazilian Ronaldo "The Phenomenon"
@David Burgarelli no
@@davidburgarelli9453 you've got to be kidding me. Plus he won 3 champions leagues back to back to back. Sure, Ronaldo has 1 more world cup goal and 1 more world cup than Muller, but pure numbers don't lie. Muller was absolutely undeniable in front of goal and more successful with his clubs than Ronaldo was.

@@davidburgarelli9453 i think you've forgotten about the literal point of sport: score more goals than your opponent. Gerd scored WAAAAAAAAAY more goals than Ronaldo, both internationally and DEFINITELY for club level. Also, Ronaldo was injured all the time. If he was so good and had all this ability, how did he not win a SINGLE champions league with a good Barcelona team, a good Inter team, and STACKED Real Madrid team, and an even more stacked AC Milan team?!?
Literally the only thing that matters is goals scored. As i said, numbers don't lie, and Muller scored over double the goals, and more important goals. He also only scored 15 world cup goals in 4 world cups, where muller scored 14 in just 2 world cups, scoring 10 in a single tournament. Ronaldo scored his goals while being a part of arguably the greatest Brazilian side in the history of the game.

Easily the most clutch player of all time. The only player to have won every trophy football had to offer. Messi and Ronaldo are both missing the World Cup. Pele and Maradona are both missing the Copa America. Gerd Muller won literally everything on offer and is the only player to ever do so while also scoring an important goal in every single one of those finals. It’s a shame because he played in the era when Pele played and him winning three world cups made him the king of football
@@dazzaMusic Pele was more the generation before. They did both play in 1970 but it was like Messi and Zidane both playing at the same time when one was about to retire and the other on the rise. Pele is also a bit of a fraud in the way he uses marketing to promote himself to people who never watched him play as the king. Think about this, had Gerd Muller not been playing Netherlands would have almost certainly won. Find me one single world cup match Pele played where he changed the outcome of a single game.
Messi now has a WC, Copa America and an Olympic gold medal. Now what??!!
