@nineninesixteensixteen2386 omg that square body was sick m. Wish he could do another, but better. With his knowledge of cars and trucks now he would make a sick 1st gen!
You might want to run a dehumidifier in there to take some of the water load off of the AC units. I did that in my garage back when I lived in West Palm Beach and that helped a ton.
I think I'd put that air compressor out there to the pump house and run the line into the shop underground. You've got plenty of room for it since you cleaned it out! Then you won't have to hear that loud ass compressor running while your working! Im sure it's pretty loud inside that building! You'd have to move your 220 power out there but I think it would be well worth the time, money and effort! I freakin' HATE a loud ass compressor! Cant wait to see these mezzanines complete with steps!!
Could also put it outside the back wall under the lean to and just make a small enclosure to protect it from the elements. The pump house is pretty far away to have to run 220
A/c tech, the reason for the nasty blower wheels is the standing water. That gunk is a mix of mold and dust clumps that accumulate over time, with extreme moisture and dark conditions it doesn't take long
I'd paint the bottom of whatever flooring material before installing it. Especially if you want to keep the framework black. Obviously you'll be putting lights underneath so I'd maybe paint them white to help reflect light. Just an idea, it's going to look nice and improve your workshop whatever you choose to do.
It would have been so much nicer to have the rear door off to the side and line the lift up with that, and then have a single 20ft wide lift. He could have still done that, but it would have meant moving the roll-up door
@@AW-yv9sqAbsolutely this. Such an ass from elbow way of doing it. So much space taken up by things sitting doing nothing. Equivalent of painting eyes on his glasses and wondering why he can't see.
@@claybrinkman533I've been saying this since I first saw this shop layout. I never would have put that bay door in the center of the back wall. That stacker is such an enormous waste of space. Half of Taylors videos are now just moving stuff around inside a very poorly setup space. There's so little room to actually do any work.
Those blower wheels on the mini split come out pretty easy. Usually just a screw on the right side. They’re super easy to pressure wash after they’re out! Just an fyi for next time
A big overhang would be cool, also a walkway behind to get back and forth would be helpful probably. Put some sort of diamond plate down between the loft platforms maybe? On the hang out side you should do some sort of wall covering too.
For the stairs, could you put them on the outside wall, or near it? I know the AC unit is there, but if you could kick the steps out 18" and have them over there, it could give you a little more room in the center of the shop. Looks like R2 is proving his worth yet again!
Im so happy for you dude. Ive been following you since you painted the miata the first time and this project is on my top list of projects you have done so far haha! And I am so excited to see you drift agian, cant wait!
Good idea to hose out the fins on the external units regularly too, just stay away from the electrical area (easy done). Remove cover and fan and hose debris from the inside outwards
Who knew 10 years ago you would be doing this, everything changes. Wish to have one of the look down areas in a shop with glass windows they just look so cool
Dude, I was so ready for you to start this project I'm excited. I have been watching your channel for a long time ago I love the hard work and dedication You definitely take pride in building your cars.
Awesome video, I’ve been very excited about the lofts. I’d love to build one in my shop eventually. I’m a fourth year Architectural Engineering student and just thought I’d mention that the “beams” you’re referring to are actually columns (the vertical members). Beams would be the horizontal members of the floor essentially, which then end at the girders. The girders being the horizontal members between columns that all of the beams tie into! Hope I’ve taught some people a thing or two about structural engineering! Great vid and I can’t wait to see it finished with the hangout area!
I know your feel Taylor, i have a area with wooden beams and rotten planks in my barn that i'm actually renovating, i can't wait to have this project finished :D
You can get yellow extension forks for your walkie stacker unit FYI and then you would not have to pay for lift gate service it would handle that long pallet They slip on and off just put them on when needed. Amazon or ULINE
I do need to get those. But I need new wheels for it. The drive wheel is so worn the machine sits like 1/2” off the ground so it frames out very easily. So I don’t think I could make it to the road at the moment. Lol which most trucks that deliver freight deliver with a full size semi truck.
Sweet I love it. I used lattice in my basement to hide the floor joists. Metal screen which comes all different sizes may help to hide the fact you wanted to turn the frame 180. Try a piece and see
This is a killer set up. I’m in the process of planning my shop out now. Still trying to figure out doors in the end like yours or doors in the side like a traditional auto shop. This gives me options and more ideas.
@@Taylordrifts thanks for the advice. Your shop is really coming together nicely . On another subject. I’d love to see the new motor in the RX7. It would make a killer little drag car.
One thing to consider that I thought of when you mentioned possibly moving the one mini-split is that you might still want to consider doing something for your AC up in the lofts. It's not a secret that heat rises and in a space with that much height, all of your cold air is going to hang out down low meaning your lofts could feel pretty warm. You could still move one of those wall fan coils up to the loft but it would probably be a bit complicated and honestly, not necessarily the best performing option since the lofts will be open and most the cool air will still just fall down to ground level. I'd consider looking into a large diameter ceiling fan for the middle of the shop(something like Big-Ass Fans) with a thermostat control. Those are pretty good at circulating the air to get a more even temperature throughout the space. It would most likely help the lofts and also could enhance the rest of the shop's comfort as well.
Dude I've been looking forward to this since the first mention of the loft but seeing what you bought to do it with made it sooo much more awesome. That kit is just so perfect I thought you'd just build it yourself out of wood or metal but man a good well built kit like that powder coated and adjustable is so freaking nice and saves so much time and effort and I think the end result will just be so much better then you would have built from scratch "no offense" but also the fact that if you ever move you can take it with you or if you ever really change the shop up those things are basically modular to fit so many different ways. So I for one am so stoked to see the final result
Cleaning split units was super common for me back home tropical climates will gunk them up really bad. The old school method is a sheet metal trough hung around the ac unit then using a pump bottle to spray clean the coils and fan. The humidity causes mold to build up really fast
Did not expect to see you doing a heat pump cleaning in this video! Highly recommend a speen clean bib kit to prevent the huge mess and if you want to go full send get the CJ125 pump sprayer.
I'm honestly surprised you haven't moved the air compressor out of the shop. Could go in a little Hush House behind the shop and clear up a few more feet of shop space.
Pallet racking , you can use them out side for a shed framing various widths and heights. Gowith 5"_6" cross beams. Go with tear drop style. Then screw sheet metal "R" panel galvalume. Its cooler temp wise, than painted😮

Put the compressor outside on a pad. May not seem like it but the space it opens up will be more than welcome.
I remember when Taylor first started building the Miata. His dream was to put these lofts up and after 15 years his dream has become a reality.
15 years??
You should move the compressor outside under the back lean you built
That Bendpak lift is such a cock block in the workshop. Especially with so much space around the side of the building.
Can you imagine if it wasn’t there and he could put a 2nd floor on half the shop for storage etc. put a lean to for cars off the side of the shop.

You could put the stairs against the back wall that way you don’t block the front of the loft with it and it will make it feel more open
Stairs in the back and overhang in the front.
Next video Taylor has decided to switchs the cross beams cause they drive him crazy being the wrong way lol
