This is one of his most under rated songs

Yeah at the end of the video he makes it funny. But this by itself, is such a beautiful song.
The video is kinda the opposite of Stacy's mom or Garth Brooks that summer where the music is just about love it's funny how he played both sides here

See a lot of people got used to Toby's big hits which are almost all his "outlaw" fun songs. Hes my favorite country artist and i have listened to every scrap of publicly available music from him. My favorites are his softer songs like "we were in love", "losing my touch", "huckleberry", "rock you baby", "crash here tonight", "what she left behind", and "beautiful stranger". To name a few :)
Wouldn’t know it unless you saw the video that there was any humor to this song. That’s what makes it great. It can be a serious song or humorous.
I wish I could explain why this loss is hitting so hard, but I absolutely can't. I've been completely devastated..
My husband feels the same way. He grew up with Toby Keith’s music so he feels like his just lost a massive part of his childhood

I'd bet a lot of money that the only part of this video that Toby had a say in was the ending. Amazing song, always gives me chills, but the video leaves a lot to be desired. This is from when the studio was trying to turn Toby into a heartthrob. He wanted none of that. He became his own man when Dreamworks went under.
I have not heard this song in forever. I forgot existed.
I think of it this way. The song is supposed to be taken seriously but the music video was created to be funny

Toby Keith is only the 2nd celebrity death i nearly cried over. Steve Irwin was the first and I was so much younger then that I did cry my eyes out. but yeah I would have loved to hear more thoughts from you about the actual song.

RIP Toby!!!.....I'll miss seeing your funny new music vids coming out!!!! Hightlights of you out doing USO tours, Stadium tours here at home and raising money for all that is good in this world!! Been a fan of yours since the beginning. Became an even bigger fan after 9/11 when your hit American Soldier came out. I was in the service at that time. Went in July 2000 got Honorably discharged Oct 2006 SSgt E-5 USAF Security Forces 3P051 HUAH! You showed so much love and support for our troops and this Country doing USO tours for all of us deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan and everywhere in between. Hell I think you were in the sandbox more than we were. Singing to the troops uplifting morale while they were taking it to the War on Terrorism and when you would come back to the States in between tours you were telling our stories at your concerts for the American people who were still saddened and maybe a lil lost and after that tragic day so they knew thousands of troops were fighting to redeem those that were innocently lost due to terrorism and evil bloodshed on our homeland!! And to bring justice and some peace of mind to their families and we appreciate you for that. You'll never be forgotten thats for sure! Definitely not in this ole Kentucky boys heart and Im sure not in the hearts of millions of other country fans either. Your music and Patriotism will live on forever through your lyrics!! Sing our Father one for me tonight and ask him to bless this nation for it needs it and tell him I'll see him soon. Love ya big guy!!

R.I.P. Toby i was diagnosed with throat cancer due to a lifetime of severe acid reflux. I chose not to seek treatment the Good lord has spoken death is a beautiful thing it is the next step of the journey we must all someday take alone. Awesome reaction. God bless you and your family.

I heard some Toby growing up, mainly Should've Been a Cowboy, but it wasn't until How Do You Like Me Now that I really fell in love with dude. Which was on this same album. He wasn't always funny, kid. He was always a little different though. He definitely went funny more after this album and made some absolute classics. He's on my Mt Rushmore for country.

The video, like many others, has little to do with the song. I imagined, at tbe time the song was released, a pair of platonic friends who discover that which was right before their eyes.
The song is great…but you’re right, the video never fit it properly.
