Might be one of the first games I've ever seen where it actually got worse the longer it was in development. It seemed to have so much potential when the first demo came out... and now it's just a mess
That actually happens with a lot of games that get stuck in long development cycles. Just look at Duke Nukem Forever.

And the box climbing simulator has finally arrived... That opening bit actually gave off a good impression to me, the Neighbor's house was normal again and we can tell he's a lot more mobile making him a threat again with having anything absurd to deal with. Then Act 2 starts and I'm completely wrong. The house is more complex again as it was in later beta builds and the AI got stuck behind a wall. Add on that tedious waterpipe segment and what seems like the first half of the game isn't doing too well.
So the kids are simming bit they arent missing? Thats great news
I can't seem to take this game seriously, or seem to like the game enough. I am just watching because manly is playing it. I don't understand shit.

Why does the "finished" game feel less polished and more janky than the earliest alpha?

I dunno, seems to lack polish in a few areas...
I like how in all the alphas and betas we always wondered what was in his basement. Then in the full game we find out that the basement was only the beginning
I almost feel like this was a worse iteration then some of the demos but with some cutscene, it was a good concept which is why i backed it but it almost feels like rather then improving they kinda went "what we advertised is our best so thats all you're getting we'll just move the house around a little each update and add a cutscene on release so it feels finished

I have to admit, having something chase you that's nearly as capable as the player in terms of mobility is pretty terrifying. And the house is surreal as balls. I love it!

Actually there are 3 ways to get out from the house in act 2. Use the red key, use the trampolin, and use the crowbar. Thats it

Finally released, and i still just can't...
I don't know, i think this game and Yandere Simulator just don't make for good games, and i can't really explain why.
Like they're better than games like 'Firewatch' and 'Gone Home', but they don't feel much different than that kinda "walking sim" genre.
