How To Use the Pinch Headlock to Attack the Triangle: No Gi BJJ/Jiu-Jitsu/Grappling

  • In this video, we’ll use the PINCH HEADLOCK as a way of understanding the concept of EXTENSION in our attacks from the bottom. First of all, the pinch headlock is an incredibly powerful way to control your partner from the guard in no gi. You can see more here:
Next, as a guard player, if you can learn to extend your partner’s body, drawing them away from their center of gravity, then you can quickly offset their balance. This often causes a chain reaction whereby they have to further extend themselves (hands to the mat, legs wider for base) in ways which leaves them open for more attacks. In the case of the pinch headlock, the underhook/head control combination is an ideal way of creating this extension. It leads to sweep opportunities and - more siginficantly - a chance at the triangle from the bottom.

Good video and great move I think (I know next to nothing about BJJ but this seems good to me) the only think that I'm little bit concerned about is that with his head so close to your head but lower than your head there might be a small window that if he has long arms he can wrap them around your head and still have enough space to put his hand into your chin with side of your chin facing the dome of his head. now with the underhook you have a lot of leverage and what I'm talking about may be absurd I don't know however if someone has you in tai clinch for example if he doesn't have your head bellow his neck yet you can wrap your arms behind him and put your head against his chin or his throat if you can't reach reach chin. and if you are at the height of his chin and manage to turn his head to the side. and put the dome of your head on the joint between his upper jaw and his lower jaw he will let go of the clinch. now if you have an underhook you have more leverage and if you would be standing you could just move to the side put the blade of your arm into side of his neck and that would allow you to easily defend it. but when you are both sitting this might be little bit problematic. especially if his other arm is on the inside. if it is on the outside you can just flare your elbow, but if he has his arm inside then you can't do that and he has easier time wrapping it around your head. also even when you can flare the elbow he can go underneath and put you in a worst spot. and all of this might help him to push you to the ground and use arm triangle from there. now there is a good chance you can do same to him deppending who is faster.
now like I said I might not know what I'm talking about, but something like that will work if your opponent has you in a typical tai clinch. with underhook it would be more difficult but when both of you are sitting probably not impossible.

Mr. G is the triangle attack advised from a shoulder crunch position as well?
