I've just been listening about the flooding in Wales too. So very sorry for all concerned, I can't imagine anything worse than fire or water to a person's home, especially given that we are in a pandemic, I'm truly sorry for all affected.
Good for you Daz taking the time to go out and record another crazy couple of days round Todmorden area. Before i moved away i was a regular visitor to that area along with my mate's. I remember we got caught out in downpour like that cycling with water up to our knees, didn't get easier till we started to go up towards walsden area. You get more worried about hitting a pot hole more than anything. Once again thank you Bill.

I learned a lot about low pressure zones etc. and got a feeling for how different a creek can look during flooding. Just thinking about making a video about that topic, thanks for the inspiration 🤠👍. It's the same here in Llangollen. The river was just 5" from breeching the town walls . Highest I've seen it in my lifetime . My road was a river for 24 hrs with all the rain running off the mountains. Stay safe bud

That's how diverse the weather in the UK can be. There is a term called Lapse rate too which when walking in the UK's mountain's can lead to big shifts in temperature differentials every thousand feet in a localised area.

Mother nature is letting us know for sure Cecil. The problem with drivers today seems to be all too common place and accidents will happen but surely some can be avoided. There was a sign staying Flood further down the road at this spot.
I drove through yesterday... Has it held up overnight...? Stopped for s butty at the small cafe at the turning for Crag vale on the other side of the river... The BBC were there too... I did some video with my phone... I saw one or two nutter's out ont bike...
I'm not sure how things are at the moment. But yes you will see the keen cyclist out in all weathers too. It looked like the defences were doing a good job though.
It's one of my usual "Stay local rides" and I thought I could film it as I went along. I socially distanced my self, didn't stop for a coffee anywhere and about turned and came back home straight away at Mytholmroyd. A lot of time trial riders will use the valley as a good 25 mile training ride because it is relatively flat which is good for their cadence workout .
Great video, and film of my local “spar towns” clearly well shot. Very brave out on your ebike in that sort of weather, weren’t you worried you’re ebike would fail. What camera did you use? Again well done you.
Hope the town is ok pal. Where are you based ? And the bike wasn't an Ebike it's a hybrid Kona conversion I did last week. The pedal power was from my soaked through socks and lycra lol.
The image quality is amazing, I hope no damage this time around. I had no idea the rivers were so substantial (quite a span in places) I guess long before it was populated it was always flooding since the ice age and will do going forward which is a great shame now that so many live there.
The Calder valley is an interesting place and what's even more fascinating is that you can literally find a local source to the river and follow it and watch it pick up pace as it travels down the valley.
All these floodings is bc of the climate change. Extreme weather becomes the new normal. For the past 5 years in the world we have had the double amount of floodings, tsunamis, hurricanes, typhoons, tornados, earthquakes, volcano eruptions than the 5 years before. It's happening terribly fast now all over the world. It affects our lives but also countries economies.
The climate change during the ice age took thousands of years. The extreme weather we see now has developed during the past 40 years, especially after year 2000.

I'm glad I live on a hill in Bradford - it's horrible when icy but at least water flows past us. I hope the flooding is minimal in Greater Manchester and surrounding areas 😔
Parts of Greater Manchester have also been adversely affected by the storm and rivers have burst their banks. I know what Bradford is like too. It's all the hills around that allow the water to pick up pace as it makes it's way to the main river.
Not gotten over Feb 2020 yet here in M'royd was watching closely outta kitchen window right were Cragg Brook/Elphin Brook meets the Calder another 12hrs worth and we would have been in Big Trouble again. You could have called in for a Brew Mate

I find it interesting following a river from it's feeder streams to where it gets pretty out of control within a few miles. I believe that Chris Kiddey is a local person to the area who reports for Calendar news. He was out and about too.
@@elainekayes8087 it's a grey area because I could cycle 30 miles in a local loop 3 miles - 10 times and only be 1 mile from home. I could also cycle at 20mph and go 10 miles or so away from home in half an hour and then turn back. To me and my cycling friends, a local ride could be anything up to 40 or so miles within our local area. It's wide open to interpretation. I don't ride with anyone at the moment but you are allowed to ride with one other person from outside your home.
It will be one of the main trans Pennine routes open between Lancashire and West Yorkshire if the M62 goes down. There were a lot of articulated lorries out today.
Most of Northern England, North Wales, Scotland and The Midlands are in the firing line of Storm Christoph. Including months worth of heavy rain and snow. Looks real bad doesn’t it.

Yes Di, on this ride the wind about turned completely so it felt like a tail wind there and back. It snowed shortly after. Weird or what.

I think naming these storms helps us to recall when they occurred. The alarming thing is that they occur so much more frequently.

Callis has always been the first place to flood. Traffic still getting through so its not as bad as I've seen many times before.

Can I ask how many miles you traveled just we've been told no more then 4 miles ?????

I agree that a lot of media attention is sensationalised David especially by the BBC and other production companies. Over the past 30 years the nation has been subject to a massive change where staying in and watching the goggle box is now the best option for so many. There are hundreds of talentless Wannabees on TV who just regurgitate tripe. I actually give respect the bloke, or woman or those who wish to be non binary or what ever denomination for actually getting out of the house and walking their dog. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
