Hughesy was a beast. He scored goals like this every season. And I've never seen a player hold up the ball with his back to goal as good as him. Strong as an ox.
I stood behind the away end at Oxford Utd's ground which was totally uncovered & saw Sparky score a volley from outside the area which to this day in my mind's eye i see clearly hear the micro-second hush & then the roar!!
@@russell-di8js that's what it's all about! I saw Hughes only a couple of times live towards the end of his career. Cantona was taking over at that point!
One of the best volleyers ( don't know if that's a word 🤣) of a ball you'll ever see When it sat up for him you fancied him he was that good. Most players volley into row z
Well. i was 13 yrs old, tight right up against the kop fence smack middle between the posts. My eye line was about pitch hight and had the perfect view and watched it fly all the way in!. Although at the time i was more interested in Rushie scorin!! WHAT WAS THE ATTENDANCE ???
Sparky scored one very similar, but better against Manchester City, for Manchester United. United lost 5-1 and the game was ultimately meaningless, but Hughes' goal will be remembered for years.
That must be the goal in question. Rushie scored the other two in that game. I was right behind the goal in the kop as one exited 13yr old!. Still remember that night!.
I remember my PE teacher testing us on what attributes are needed to volley in football. A few of us put down balance and he said “who’s the best volleyer in the game right now?” Hughes was the obvious answer. “When is he ever on his feet?!!” True story
A great player how the Welsh never qualified for a WC I don't know they had two of the most deadliest strikers in world football in Ian Rush & Mark Hughes up front plus Giggs when he came on the scene but I think it was they didn't have a solid midfield they came close in play offs but never managed it .
Lee Morgan they had the best goalkeeper in Neville Southall a very quick and intelligent centre back in Ratcliffe, a powerhouse left back in Pat van den hauwe a great midfielder in Micky Thomas and Dean Saunders to fill in for Rush & Hughes, If Giggs & Bale would have been in that generation they would have been handy.
Best goal I ever saw him score. True, he did as you say "die on his arse" at Barca but it was only for tax reason Sparkey went on loan to Bayern, if he returned to United earlier he'd have had a wad to pay on his wages earned in Spain. He was NEVER going to stay at Bayern. Anybody know if his injury time Cup Semi-Final goal Vs Oldham is online??? There's only a shitty version on UA-cam.
I was there that march in the famous Wrexham kops ???? Think they should rebuild the kops and make safe . There was R hell of as atmosphere of all Yale stand mold Rd stand U can't beat the kop a wxm fc
Fuckin sick goal omg "Mark Hughes's job appears to be about as safe as a property investment in the Gaza strip after Manchester City's FA Cup humiliation against Nottingham Forest."
Actually Hughes died on his arse in Barca - hence him being loaned out to Bayern for the rest of the season. Great player throughout his time in England though.

Louis Theroux brought me here ;-)
@GMRREN Of course, but I'm Spanish (even he played for Barcelona) and I never suffered again a goal like this !!
Hughes was a sick player.
Fue el último partido de Arconada como portero de la Selección Española

so einen tor habe ich nie gesehen, sieht echt krass aus!
When they score goals like that and when they had players like those its justified to say Wold Cup had lost them
thats our manager :D
Many a ripped knee in the playground at my school in Wales trying to replicate that the next day.
¡¡¡TE QUIERO, POLI!!!
Decent hit but what was the keeper at?

here because they just mentioned on the brazil Spain match
a top player, succeeded in Europe too: Bayern and Barcelona. How many British players could say that? Since Chris Waddle, none.
joostisabelle he didn’t do anything at Barcelona

its thanks to his permed hair. you dont see stuff like that nowadays
I know he scored a similar against Man city of all teams. man u lost 5-1 that day.

o yeah lol
lol, same xD
The only good thing Hughes did for Wales. He was generally useless after that, especially missing the Romania match through suspension.
Always a moaner look at all the good things he did for wales
